Rotterdam rehearsal is not an exaggeration to say that it is a rehearsal sound source for the peak tour of Europe 73, but it is a very rough sound source. From the unique recording state, it was speculated that “the staff took a sneak shot from the next room …”, but the sound of traffic on the street is heard everywhere, and conversations of multiple people are heard in places. As you can see, this is a recording from the outside by an enthusiastic enthusiast in a rehearsal studio.
Yes, the conversations that appear everywhere were the interactions between the fans we were with. It’s unthinkable now, but in 1973 Europe it was possible to sneak into the studio where Stones was rehearsing and record the leaking sound. It was a peaceful time.
Under these circumstances, not only the sounds of traffic and conversations are heard everywhere, but above all, hiss noise (or rather breathing noise) that goes on and on throughout the whole story. This was the result of raising the recording level to the fullest to pick up the sound leaking out.
These elements overlapped to make it one of the most rough recordings among the many rehearsal sound sources of Stones (laughs), but it was valuable, but it was a representative sound source that was difficult to reach.

Even so, Mick’s voice was captured firmly, so there were brave items such as two types of releases from the VGP label on the analog LP “RATTLING ABOUT”. All of them were released in the cassette trade era, and it is also true that the addition of dubbing made the already rough sound quality even more difficult to hear.
These items were roughly released with “listening” parts, but in reality, this sound source was as long as three CDs. However (not unreasonably), there was no sign that it would be released in the complete (bitter smile), and it was only distributed among core enthusiasts.
Captain Acid bravely tried to overhaul such a fumi-e sound source. He has done a number of remasters of the Stones sound source online, but he even made him say “it was a pain”.
He fixed the pitch as much as possible (although he couldn’t fix it completely …) and adjusted the sound quality to be even rougher. It’s still a high hurdle to listen to, but it’s still a big difference compared to the items released in the past. After all, it seems that the feeling of missing the gene of cassette trade was wiped out.

Contrary to the state of such an Egui sound source, there is a scene that flashes even in a loose rehearsal, which seems to be Stones in 1973. I was surprised to see Mick singing enthusiastically at the live performance level such as “Brown Sugar” heard in the early stages. In addition, “Rocks Off”, which was not shown in the actual performance, is also reviewed, and it is rare that Mick’s singing style is Europe 73 mode while the performance is the same atmosphere as the previous year’s tour.
More than that, trying “Can You Hear The Music” on “Hide Your Love” is a valuable scene unique to rehearsals. Especially in the latter case, the practice is repeated quite seriously, and not only Mick but also Taylor are playing with the atmosphere of the studio as it is, but it is clear that neither song looks live. After all, the performance on the stage did not come true, so the performance heard here is even more valuable.
Due to the rough condition, there are many enthusiasts who have never heard of Rotterdam rehearsal, where even the current items no longer exist. A complete and remastered version of such a valuable but high-hurdle sound source is released as a free gift. ヨーロッパ73という絶頂期ツアーのリハーサル音源ながら、非常に荒さのある音源という事である意味「マニアの踏み絵」と言っても過言ではないロッテルダム・リハーサル。その独特な録音状態から「スタッフが隣の部屋から盗み撮りした…」などと推測されていた音源ですが、随所で通りの交通の音が入り、なおかつ複数の人物の会話が所々で聞かれることからも解るように、これは熱狂的なマニアがリハーサル・スタジオに張り込んで外から録音したもの。
そう、随所で現れる会話は一緒にいたファン同士のやりとりだったのです。今では考えられないことですが、1973年のヨーロッパであればストーンズがリハーサルしているスタジオに張り込んで漏れる音を録音することは可能だったのです。何とものどかな時代でありました。
こうした状況によって随所で交通の音や会話が入るだけでなく、何より全編を通して延々と入るヒスノイズ（というよりブリージング・ノイズ）。これは外に漏れてくる音を拾うべく、録音レベルを目いっぱい上げた結果だったのです。
こうした要素が重なってストーンズの数あるリハーサル音源の中においても屈指の荒くれ録音となってしまい（笑）貴重ではあるけど、手を出しずらい音源の代表格となっていたことかと。

それでもミックの声などはしっかり捉えられていたことからアナログLP「RATTLING ABOUT」にVGPレーベルからも2種類のリリースが存在するなど、勇猛果敢なアイテムが存在はしていました。それらはどれもカセット・トレード時代のリリースでもあり、ダビングが加えられてしまったことでただでさえ荒い音質がさらに輪をかけて聞きづらくなっていたのも事実でしょう。
こうしたアイテムは荒いなりに「聞ける」パートをそれぞれにまとめてリリースしていたのですが、実のところこちらの音源はCD三枚に相当する長さだったのです。しかし（無理もないことですが）コンプリでリリースされる気配など微塵もなく（苦笑）コア・マニアの間に流通するのみに留まっていました。
そんな踏み絵音源のオーバーホールを勇敢にも試みたのがCaptain Acid。彼はネット上でストーンズ音源のリマスターをいくつも手掛けてくれていますが、彼をして「しんどかった」と言わしめたほど。
彼はピッチを可能な限り修正（完全には直せていないのですが…）し、さらに荒いなりに音質も調整。相変わらず聞き込むにはハードルの高い音源であることに変わりはありませんが、それでも過去にリリースされたアイテム群と比べたら雲泥の差。やはりカセット・トレードのジェネ落ち感が払拭されたことが大きいと思われます。

そんなエグイ音源の状態とは裏腹に、ルーズなリハーサルの中でも閃く場面があるのが73年のストーンズらしいところ。序盤で聞かれる「Brown Sugar」などライブ本番レベルでミックが熱唱している姿に驚かされるほど。また本番では披露されなかった「Rocks Off」もおさらいしており、演奏は前年のツアーそのままの雰囲気ながら、ミックの歌い方がヨーロッパ73モードというのがレア。
それ以上に「Hide Your Love」に「Can You Hear The Music」を試しているのがリハーサルならではの貴重な場面。特に後者はかなり真剣に稽古が繰り返されており、ミックだけでなくテイラーもスタジオの雰囲気そのままのプレイを聞かせているのですが、いかんせんどちらの曲もライブ映えしないことは明白。結局ステージでの披露は叶いませんでしたので、なおさらここで聞かれる演奏は貴重です。
