Following the previous release of Boston in 1969, this time also includes a coupling recording of a rare sound source from the US tour in 1969. DISC1 is well known at the New York MSG performance on November 27, but this time the sound source is a high-quality AUD sound source famous for “BROADWAY” (DAC-092) and a CD release in VOL.3 of this 1969 series. This is the first CD of the matrix source with the monaural SB sound source. The SB sound source has a low volume of noise and microphone on the audience side, which is a little unrealistic, while the “BROADWAY” sound source has a good recording that clearly captures the reaction of the audience while picking up the performance from the PA. .. By synchronizing these two sources, a new sound space that has never been experienced is created. It’s not an SB sound source where the two guitars are neatly separated into left and right, but it is the latest person who created the stereo version of that 1969 river ~ that put together a new remaster on both sources. A product that shines with good synchronization technology and good sense of remastering. The film shooting on the first day of MSG69 and the tension of the live recording band are faithfully reproduced with the highest sound quality ever. There are some places where I’m free and the sync is out of sync for a moment and Taylor’s phrase can be heard in the twin lead, but this is cute.

DISC2 also contains a stereo remix of the sound source of the free concert held at Hyde Park in London in July before the US tour in the winter of 1969. Perhaps it followed the BBC Rock’n’Roll Circus of the previous year (the music part was recorded by engineer Glyn Johns on 3 tracks), and was multitracked by an 8-track mobile recording unit. Since Decca Records, which I belonged to at that time, did not have such a recording relay system, the mobile unit of Pye Records, which was a rival of Decca, was used. This Mick Taylor’s first participation in Hyde Park was recorded on film, and the video was aired on Granada TV in the UK at that time, and it has been made into video software and released on DVD many times. This 8-track multi-tape, which had been sleeping in the warehouse for many years when the latest Blu-ray was converted, was first stereo remixed and used for the soundtrack part, but it was produced by telecine the PAL specification film in NTSC format. Due to a mistake, the master was mastered at a speed about a semitone slower than the actual performance, and a person who saw the trailer pointed out in advance, and instead of doing the work of re-telecine at the correct speed, the voice part of the completed master was electrified. A restored version was released by raising a semitone to alleviate the discomfort, but it was released in a strange state where the pitch was correct but the tempo was slow by a semitone, and those deficiencies were correct after that. It was never done. In this work, Hyde Park’s stereo remix sound source that followed such an unfortunate path (laughs) was recorded for the first time at the correct pitch and tempo at the time of actual performance.

The second half of DISC2 is a collection of valuable sound sources from the appearance of the BBC TV program “TOP OF THE POPS”. Like the appearance record on the radio, on BBC-TV, there are many videos that have not been archived and discarded after being aired, and the last two songs of the 71st appearance (air check source, but significantly upgraded from the previous one) RUBY TUESDAY recorded on the same day as Tk-11 has also been deleted in the appearance of 1987. There are many takes where the sound source itself first appeared and the interaction with the moderator was included, so it can be said that it is also excellent in terms of materials. If you listen carefully to “HONKY TONK WOMEN”, which contains 4 takes, it will be the key to know how much effort was put into promoting this song, such as different vocal takes and different orchestral scales. .. This work is a compilation of high-quality sound performance that represents 1969 and TV archive sound sources of the generations before and after that.

前回リリースの69年ボストンに続き、今回も69年ＵＳツアーのレア音源をカップリング収録です。DISC1は11月27日のニューヨークＭＳＧ公演でよく知られた内容ですが、今回の音源は「BROADWAY」(DAC-092)で有名な高音質AUD音源と本69年シリーズのVOL.3でCDリリースされたモノラルのSB音源とのマトリックス・ソースの初のCD化です。SB音源の方は客席側のノイズ・マイクの音量が低くやや臨場感に欠けるバランス、対する「BROADWAY」音源の方はＰＡからの演奏を大きく拾いながらも、客席のリアクションまで鮮明に捉えた好録音。これらの2ソースをシンクロ・ミックスさせることで、これまでに未体験の新たな音空間が生まれています。2台のギターが左右に綺麗に分かれたようなSB音源ではありませんが、両ソースに新たなリマスターを施しまとめ上げたのは、あの69年ライヴァー〜のステレオ・バージョンを作り上げた人物で最新のシンクロ技術とリマスタリングのセンスの良さが光る一品。ＭＳＧ69初日のフィルム・シューティング、そしてライブ・レコーディングのバンドの緊張感をこれまでで一番の高音質で忠実に再現しています。アイム・フリーで一瞬シンクロがズレてテイラーのフレーズがツインリードに聴こえる箇所もありますが、まぁこれはご愛嬌。

DISC2にはやはり69年の冬のUSツアー以前に7月にロンドンのハイド・パークで行なわれたフリーコンサートの音源のステレオ・リミックス音源を収録。前年のBBCロックンロール・サーカスに倣ったのか(エンジニアのグリン・ジョンズによって音楽部分は3トラック収録された。)、8トラックのモービル・レコーディング・ユニットによってマルチトラック収録されました。当時所属のデッカ・レコードにはこのような録音中継車のシステムが無かったことから、デッカのライバル社であったパイ・レコードのモービル・ユニットが使用されました。このミック・テイラー初参加のハイド・パーク公演はフィルム収録され、その映像は当時英グラナダTVからオンエアされこれまでも何度もビデオ・ソフト化やＤＶＤ発売されてきたコンテンツです。最新のブルーレイ化の際に長年倉庫に眠っていたこの8トラックのマルチ・テープが初めてステレオ・リミックスされ、サントラ部分に使用されたのですが、PAL仕様のフィルムをNTSCフォーマットでテレシネした事による制作ミスで、実際のパフォーマンスよりおよそ半音ほど遅いスピードでマスタリングされてしまい事前に予告編を見た人物から指摘があり、再度正しい速度でテレシネをやり直すという作業を行わず、出来上がったマスターの音声部分を電気的に半音上げて違和感を緩和するという方法でレストアしたバージョンが発売されたのですが、音程は合っていてもテンポが半音分遅いという奇妙な状態でのリリースであり、その後それらの不備が正されることもありませんでした。本作ではそのような不幸な道(笑)を辿ったハイド・パークのステレオ・リミックス音源を今回初めて正確な音程、実際の演奏時のテンポにて収録させました。

DISC2の後半部分はこれまた貴重なBBCのTVプログラム「TOP OF THE POPS」出演時の貴重な音源が集められています。ラジオでの出演記録同様にBBC-TVにおいてはオンエア後、アーカイブ保存されず廃棄処分になってしまった映像が数多く、ラストの71年出演分の2曲(エアチェックソースだが既発より格段アップグレード)や67年の出演分ではTk-11と同日収録のRUBY TUESDAYも消去されてしまっています。音源自体が初登場のものや司会者とのやり取りが収められたテイクも多く、資料的にも優れていると言えるでしょう。4テイク収められた「HONKY TONK WOMEN」もよく聴くとボーカルのテイクが異なっていたり、オケの尺が違っていたりと本曲のプロモーションにどれだけ手間がかけられていたかを知る鍵となるでしょう。本作は1969年を代表する高音質パフォーマンスと、その前後の年代のTVアーカイブ音源の集大成とも言える内容となっています。
