Just a month ago, the Wiltern Theater was broadcast without warning and shook enthusiasts around the world. “LICKS” Tour Even in the 2002 leg, it became a big bestseller despite the release on DVD-R because it was a long version video of the theater gig when Stones was aggressively attacking, and the audio from there When I released the extracted soundboard album “WILTERN 2002”, it was too unexpected that it became a big hit.
It was expected that vintages such as “Philaspe” and “WELCOME TO NEW YORK!” Would be popular, but relatively recently (although it was 20 years ago). It’s no surprise for the releasers that the live Wilturn is so popular. Many people said, “A vivid mix that conveys the character of a theater gig,” “The performance is extremely hot,” and “It fits on a single CD and is easy to hear.”
In a good way, the Wiltern Theater betrayed this expectation and became Sold Out, but of course requests for additional press and re-release are being received like a rage. If so, I considered an additional press, but wait … Even though it is the volume of one CD, there is still a little capacity left. So, this time, we added “You Don’t Have To Mean It” from the take adopted in the bonus content of the DVD “FOUR FLICKS” to further enhance the content.
As a result, four songs were adopted on the DVD and five songs were adopted on the “LIVE LICKS” live album, but the latter was diverted due to the discomfort of the created mix (which I could say for the entire album). Is out of the question. Rather, the sound of this video conveys a more vivid live feeling of the theater than that. So I decided to use Keith Song from DVD.
Fortunately, the sound of “FOUR FLICKS” was not so far from this mix, and even if I inserted “You Don’t Have To Mean It” from there, it didn’t feel so strange.
Not only did this improve the content of just one song, but the performance of “You Don’t ~” on the “LICKS” tour was surprisingly (or rather) valuable. The first show on the tour was the Roseland Ballroom Theater Gig heard at the popular “ROSELAND BALLROOM 2002”, and Keith would have intended to treat it as a theater repertoire from the beginning. After that, it was performed at Skydome in Canada, and it was here Wilturn that was the third show of the tour.
After that, it disappeared from the repertoire after the last try in Auckland in November, and after that it was replaced by “Thru And Thru”.
It was this version that added such a Keith corner to further enhance the content, and there is no point to modify the sound quality again this time (it is natural). Therefore, the impression of 2002’s gokigen theater gig that you can listen to quickly with a single CD remains the same this time.
In the rear tie, only audience recordings were available, and various officials after that were also in a small amount, so it was a very fresh surprise that Stones was listening to such a hot performance at Wilturn in 2002. did. Therefore, it is the second edition to which the word “minor change” fits perfectly, but the items that have the triple time signature of good performance, good mix as a live album, and easy listening that fits on one CD are too attractive. 今からちょうど一か月前、何の前触れもなし放送されて世界中のマニアを震撼させたウィルターン・シアター。「LICKS」ツアー2002年のレグにおいてもストーンズが攻めに攻めていた時期のシアター・ギグのロングバージョン映像ということからDVD-Rでのリリースにも関わらず大ベストセラーとなり、さらにはそこからの音声を抽出したサウンドボード・アルバム「WILTERN 2002」をリリースしてみたところ、これが大ヒットと化してしまったのはあまりにも予想外でした。
というのも「フィラスぺ」や先日の「WELCOME TO NEW YORK!」といったビンテージが人気を博すのは予想できたことなのですが、比較的近年（とはいえ早くも20年前なのですが）のライブであるウィルターンがこれほどの間での人気を博すだなんて、リリースした側としては嬉しい驚き以外の何物でもありません。曰く「シアター・ギグらしさが伝わってくる生々しいミックス」、「演奏が激アツ」そして「CD一枚に収まって聞きやすい」といった声が多数寄せられたのです。
いい意味でこちらの予想を裏切ってSold Outとなってくれたウィルターン・シアターですが、当然追加プレスや再リリースのリクエストが怒涛のように寄せられています。となれば追加プレスを検討したのですが、待てよ…CD一枚のボリュームとはいえ、まだ少し容量が残っている。ということで今回はDVD「FOUR FLICKS」のボーナス・コンテントで採用されたテイクから「You Don’t Have To Mean It」を追加収録することでさらに内容を充実させました。
結果的にDVDで四曲、「LIVE LICKS」ライブアルバムに五曲がそれぞれ採用されていたのですが、後者は作り込まれたミックスの違和感（それはこのアルバム全体に言えたことですが）から流用は問題外。むしろそれよりはるかに今回の映像の音声の方が生々しいシアターのライブ感を伝えてくれる結果となったほど。そこでDVDから先のキース・ソングを採用した次第です。
幸いにも「FOUR FLICKS」の音声は今回のミックスと比べてそれほどかけ離れておらず、そこから「You Don’t Have To Mean It」を差し込んでもそれほど違和感がありませんでした。
これで一曲だけながらも内容が向上したというだけでなく、実は「LICKS」ツアーにおける「You Don’t～」の演奏というのが意外なほど（というかかなり）貴重。ツアーで最初に披露されたのは好評発売中「ROSELAND BALLROOM 2002」で聞かれるローズランド・ボールルームのシアター・ギグで、当初からキースはシアター用レパートリーとして扱うつもりであったのでしょう。その後カナダのスカイドームで演奏され、ツアー三回目の披露となったのがここウィルターンだったのです。
その後11月のオークランドでのラスト・トライを最後としてレパートリーから姿を消し、以降は代わりに「Thru And Thru」に取って代わられるのでした。
そんなキース・コーナーを追加してさらに内容の充実を図ったのが今回のバージョンでして、今回も音質に改めて手を加えるような点はありません（当たり前ですよね）。ですのでCD一枚でサクッと聞ける2002年のゴキゲンなシアター・ギグという印象は今回も変わらず。
リアタイではオーディエンス録音しか出回らず、その後の各種オフィシャルも小出しという状態でしたので、2002年のウィルターンでストーンズがこれほどまでにアツい演奏を聞かせてくれていたというのは非常に新鮮な驚きでした。よってマイナーチェンジという言葉がぴったり当てはまるセカンド・エディションなのですが、やはり演奏の良さにライブアルバムとしてのミックスの良さ、そしてCD一枚に収まった聞きやすさという三拍子揃ったアイテムはあまりにも魅力的。今度こそお見逃しなく！
