The original cassette of the prestigious Kinney is another new excavation. This time, Roger Waters’ “THE PROS AND CONS OF HITCH HIKING TOUR 1984”!
1984 is the most luxurious tour in Roger’s career. In particular, in the 1984 edition, Sogo Roger and Eric Clapton were fully assembled into four parts, and the super-majes such as KING CRIMSON’s Mel Collins and the late Michael Kamen who was passionate about the fusion of symphony and rock were solidified. It was a dream team tour. This work is a full live album where you can experience such a tour with Kinney’s Miracle Sound. It is the finest audience recording of “June 21, 1984 Earl’s Court Performance”.

This is the complete picture of “THE PROS AND CONS OF HITCH HIKING TOUR”. Clapton participated only in 1984, but this work is the beginning. It was the first concert of the UK tour, the fourth performance of the “Europe” leg.
Such a show has been known for a long time, and we are familiar with “HITCH HIKER’S GUIDE TO EUROPE (LEM 046)”. Of course, this work is a completely different recording, it is the best master awakened from the original cassette of the prestigious Kinney newly discovered this time. The traditional sound source LEM board was also a name recording representative of the tour, so I’d like to affirm that it’s okay to declare “No.1 update” lightly. First of all, it ’s clear. I have picked up a little hall sound, but this is clear. Although the presence of the ringing can be understood, a clear feeling is felt, the core of the performance sound stands out to the outline, and the details are super delicate. If you have experienced Kinney’s masterpieces, I think you can understand, but the ringing does not make the sense of transparency turbid, but rather adds brilliance. Of course, the core that pierces through the center is also strong, and there is no sensation that is common in audience recording.
And the neat beauty that sounds. Thickness is felt just because it is not the core, the treble is never extended, and the midrange is richer. The beauty of the Mel Collins sax is particularly exquisite, and the metal luster of the brass can be seen. Of course, the key to Clapton guitar is the same, enhancing the sweetness of the tone. It’s already glossy. And also the heavy bass. If you listen to this work alone, you may only think that it is recorded well, but the difference is obvious compared to the traditional recording (LEM board) mentioned above. In some places, it is totally different from the traditional board where the peak of the base has been swayed. As a matter of fact, in the absence of attack and distance of the base, although the army goes up towards the LEM board, the total musical beauty goes far above this work.
I would like you not to make a mistake here, but the traditional recording of the LEM board is a grand classic that has been released from other labels. This is a masterpiece of the masterpieces that have represented tours so far. However, this work is full of beauty that separates the famous recording. It is truly the finest recording unique to the prestigious Kinney who pursued “the beauty unique to the audience”.
Such a sound is a full show based on the whole story of “Hitchhiking Pros and Cons”. As you may be familiar with, “Clapton’s FLOYD number” is also a point, so let’s organize it here.

… and it looks like this. As a matter of fact, the first day in the UK is also known as “Show without Encore”, but this work is complemented from “June 22 Earls Court Performance” the next day. The appearance of the show that should have been reproduced has been reproduced (although there are no credits and full appearance has already been issued, there is no original encore. All of these existing groups are processed in the same way). The supplementary part was also traced back to the original master in “EARLS COURT 1984 DAY 2 (Amity 073)” and focused on the “highest peak”.
And the wonderful thing about playing such a full set … Clapton is one of the main players. “Hitchhiking pros and cons” is also more vivid than the album, but the FLOYD number is also the focus. “Wish You Were Here” solo using a Roland guitar synthesizer, “Nobody Home” that naturally puts phrases into Roger’s music world, and “The Gunner’s Dream” dances with unique phrases in the second half of the song. Of course, Kamen also includes phrases backed by careers that pursue the fusion of film music and rock, and “Hey You” also attracts Mel’s saxophone with a long lead. You can enjoy plenty of gorgeous ensembles with crystal clear shining kinny sounds.

名門キニーのオリジナル・カセットがまたもや新発掘。今度は、ロジャー・ウォーターズの“THE PROS AND CONS OF HITCH HIKING TOUR 1984”です！
1984年と言えば、ロジャーのキャリアでも最も豪華なツアー。特に1984年編では総帥ロジャーとエリック・クラプトンとがっぷり四つに組み、その脇をKING CRIMSONのメル・コリンズやシンフォニーとロックの融合に情熱を捧げた故マイケル・ケイメンといった超大物が固めた。まさにドリーム・チームのツアーでした。本作は、そんなツアーをキニーのミラクル・サウンドで体験できるフルライヴアルバム。「1984年６月21日アールズ・コート公演」の極上オーディエンス録音です。
気になるサウンドの前に、まずはショウのポジション。ロジャー初となるソロツアーの全体像から振り返ってみましょう。

これが“THE PROS AND CONS OF HITCH HIKING TOUR”の全像。クラプトンは1984年にのみ参加したわけですが、本作はその序盤。「欧州」レッグ４公演目にあたり、英国ツアー初日のコンサートでした。
そんなショウは以前から記録が知られており、当店でも『HITCH HIKER’S GUIDE TO EUROPE（LEM 046）』等でお馴染み。もちろん、本作はまったくの別録音で、この度新発掘された名門キニーのオリジナル・カセットから起こされた極上マスターなのです。伝統音源のLEM盤もツアーを代表する名録音だっただけに軽々に「No.1を更新」と断言して良いか迷いつつ、やはり断言してしまいたい。まず何より、クリアさ。ほんのりとしたホール鳴りも拾ってはいるのですが、これが透き通っている。鳴りの存在は分かるのに透明感が感じられ、演奏音の芯は輪郭までキリッと際立ち、ディテールも超繊細。キニーの名作を体験された方なら分かっていただけると思うのですが、鳴りが透明感を濁らすのではなく、むしろ輝きを添加させている。もちろん、そのド真ん中を突っ切る芯も力強く、オーディエンス録音にありがちなスカスカ感も皆無なのです。
そして、その鳴りが生む端正な美しさ。芯だけではないからこそ厚みが感じられ、高音の伸びは果てしなく、中音域はよりリッチに彩られている。特にメル・コリンズのサックスの美しさは絶品で、金管の金属光沢まで見えるよう。もちろん、要となるクラプトンのギターも然りで、トーンの甘味が増強。もう、艶っ艶なのです。そして、重低音もポイント。本作だけを聴くと「良く録れてるね」としか思わないかも知れませんが、前述した伝統録音（LEM盤）と比べると違いは一聴瞭然。ところどころベースのピークがビビってしまっていた伝統盤とまるで違い、ふくよかで美しいのです。実のところ、ベースのアタック感や距離のなさではLEM盤の方に軍配が上がりつつも、トータルの音楽的な美しさは本作の方が遙かに上を行くのです。
ここでカン違いしないでいただきたいのですが、LEM盤の伝統録音は他レーベルからもリリースのある堂々の大定番。これまでツアーを代表してきた名作中の名作です。しかし、本作はその名録音を引き離す美しさに充ち満ちている。まさに、“オーディエンスならではの美”を追究した名門キニーならではの極上録音なのです。
そんなサウンドで描かれるのは『ヒッチハイクの賛否両論』全編を基軸とするフルショウ。すでにお馴染みとは思いますが「クラプトンの弾くFLOYDナンバー」もポイントですので、ここで整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。実のところ、この英国初日は「アンコールのなかったショウ」としても知られているのでが、本作では翌日「６月22日アールズ・コート公演」から補完。本来あるべきショウの体裁を再現しました（ノークレジットでフル体裁の既発もありますが、本来アンコールは存在しない。それら既発群もすべて同様の処理が行われています）。補完パートも『EARLS COURT 1984 DAY 2（Amity 073）』でお馴染みの名録音を元マスターにまで遡り、“あくまで最高峰”に注力して仕上げました。
そして、そんなフルセットを紡ぐ演奏の素晴らしい事……。何と言っても主役の１人でもあるクラプトン。『ヒッチハイクの賛否両論』もアルバム以上に鮮烈ですが、やはり注目なのはFLOYDナンバー。ローランド製のギター・シンセサイザーを使用した「Wish You Were Here」のソロ、ロジャーの音楽世界に自然にフレーズを流し込む「Nobody Home」、曲後半で個性たっぷりのフレーズが舞い踊る「The Gunner’s Dream」。もちろん、ケイメンも映画音楽とロックの融合を追究したキャリアに裏打ちされたフレーズを随所に盛り込み、「Hey You」ではメルのサックスも長めのリードで魅せてくれる。そんな豪華極まるアンサンブルをクリスタル・クリアに輝くキニー・サウンドでたっぷりと味わえるのです。

名作・名盤ひしめく“THE PROS AND CONS OF HITCH HIKING TOUR”にあっても屈指の名作……いえ、“オーディエンスの美”に関しては随一となる大名盤の誕生です。名門キニーの威信を賭けたような美しきライヴアルバム。どうぞ、永久保存プレス２CDでいつでも、いつまでもお楽しみください。
