Ricky Lee Jones has released a cover album “KICKS” and has a wonderful performance in Japan. A masterpiece live album that deepens the reverberation is here.

This work, which recorded such a show, is a neat and deep-hearted audience recording. What’s amazing is the on-core. It is a little different from the sound board feeling, but the sound of the hall is hardly felt and the clear core jumps straight into your hand. It may be a simple trio organization with only guitar and percussion, and the outline of each sound that is spun is strangely vivid and does not mix. The singing voice is clearly understood up to one word of the lyrics, and there is plenty of dynamism from sighing to singing on a large scale. And just fine. そんな本作に収められているのは「2019年３月１日オールバニ公演」。その極上オーディエンス録音です。現在、彼女はデビュー40周年を祝うワールドツアーの真っ最中であり、先日の日本公演もその一貫でした。その近況を知る意味でも、まずは2019年の活動概要からショウのポジションを確かめてみましょう。

これが現在までに公表されているスケジュール。連日連夜ショウと移動を繰り返す……言うよりは、母国アメリカと世界各地を行き来しつつ、数公演ずつのミニツアーを繰り返すスタイル。64歳を迎えた彼女らしい悠々自適な活動ぶりがうかがえます。本作のオールバニ公演は、そんな2019年の極初期。日本公演よりも遡った「北米#1」６公演目にあたるコンサート。やや時間が経ってはいるのですが、日本公演後の最近になって公開された最新音源です。
そんなショウを記録した本作は、端正で心にしみ入る滋味深いオーディエンス録音。何と言っても素晴らしいのは、オンな芯。サウンドボード的なド密着感ともちょっと違うのですが、ホール鳴りがほとんど感じられずクッキリとした芯が真っ直ぐ手元に飛び込んでくる。ギターとパーカッションだけのシンプルなトリオ編成ということもあり、紡がれる１音１音の輪郭が異様に鮮やかで混じり合わない。歌声は歌詞の１語１語までハッキリと分かり、吐息レベル囁きから大きなスケールの歌い上げまでダイナミズムもたっぷりなのです。そして、とにかく端正。曲間に沸き上がる拍手は微妙に歪んでいるような気もしますが、肝心の歌声や演奏は極めてナチュラル。彼女の息づかいにまで現実感が宿る美の録音なのです。
その美音で描かれるのはデビュー40周年らしく、それでいて来日公演とも似て非なるショウ。ここでその内容を整理しておきましょう。
