In the jazz world … No, the music culture master Chick Corea dies. In 2020, he was active, such as announcing “PLAYS”, and this year was Chick, who celebrated the 60th anniversary of his musical activities, but recently it was discovered that he was suffering from a rare cancer that had just been discovered. .. He died at his home in Tampa Bay on February 9, 2021 at the age of 79.

Return to Forever’s September 2, 1973 Lennox performance (immediately after joining Lenny White) is completely recorded on a stereo sound board! (In this 4-member lineup, the live “Live Space Circus” in March of the following year has been released, although it is not complete.) You can fully enjoy the finest ensemble with the finest sound quality from beginning to end. In the first half of 1973, the drums were Steve Gadd (Spain’s sharp play was not odd), the guitar was Bill Connors, and the percussion was Mingo Lewis (no studio album left, only 3 songs). It was the sound board sound source at the jazz workshop in May, the official best “Return To The 7th Galaxy”). This item is a great way to experience the new RTF that changed from 5 members to 4 members just before the October release “Hymn Of The 7th Galaxy” (member change → recording from June to September). It’s valuable. Recorded on the sound board of Return to Forever, a graduate of Chick Corea, on September 3, 1973, “Lenox Music In”. At the beginning, Hymn Of The Seventh Galaxy is the most audible drumming by thrilling Lenny White, reminiscent of golden age jazz rock. Bill Connors’s rock-filled guitar play also lets you hear Jeff Beck’s play in the mid-’70s. This live was performed just before the release of the album “Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy”, and five songs 2, 4, 7, and 8 including the previous one are shown as numbers from the new work. Theme To The Mother Ship is a long number with impressive dynamic development after Lenny’s amazing drum work. The following Bass Folk Song is a song in which Bill Connors’ guitar explodes with Stanley Clarke’s bass line at the core. The play here, where each player fully demonstrated his or her characteristics, has succeeded in producing an exquisite ensemble. The interplay that is heard after the middle stage of Children’s Song # 1 is an exhilarating performance that gives the listener an impact that surpasses that BB & A. The familiar Spain, which was inspired by the “Aranjuez Concerto”, also retains a unique sense of tension that cannot be achieved without this member composition. Captain Senor Mouse is the highlight of this work, where Bill’s guitar and Chick Corea’s piano show the co-starring in a rhythm full of speed. It is none other than Lenny’s drum work that firmly supports this song, which has a Latin flavor. On the other hand, the leading role of the last Game Maker is the guitarist Bill. I’m not the only one who feels that King Crimson was quickly introducing the hypersound that he was looking for in the early 80’s. It is no exaggeration to say that their charm during the period when the rock color was the most intense, called Return to Forever, was summarized in this live performance.

リターン・トゥ・フォーエヴァーの1973年9月2日レノックス公演（レニー・ホワイト加入直後）をステレオ・サウンドボードでコンプリート収録！(この4人編成のラインナップでは翌年3月のライヴ「Live Space Circus」が、コンプリートではありませんがリリースされています）極上のアンサンブルを、極上の音質で終始たっぷりと味わう事ができます。73年前半は、ドラムがスティーヴ・ガッド（Spainのキレたプレイが半端ではありませんでした）、ギターがビル・コナーズ、パーカッションがミンゴ・ルイスという編成（スタジオ・アルバムは残しておらず、3曲のみ収録の５月のジャズ・ワークショップでのサウンドボード音源、オフィシャルのベスト「Return To The 7th Galaxy」）でした。今回のアイテムは、10月リリース「Hymn Of The 7th Galaxy」直前の（6月～9月にかけて、メンバー・チェンジ→レコーディング）５人編成から４人編成に変わった新生RTFを、リアルに体感できる大変貴重なものです。この時期だけにセット・リストがとにかく魅力的で、アルバムから６曲中５曲、SpainとChildren’s Song以外は新曲のみというとても魅力的な内容になっており、もちろんアンサンブルも圧巻で、レニーの抜群のハイハット・ワーク（アイアート・モレイラとは全くアプローチが違ってます）、テンション・コードを多様したローズの絶妙な絡みが味わえるSpace Circus、ラテンパートでの完璧なユニゾン、鮮やかなリズム・チェンジ（スネアの頭打ちでの　後半での異常な盛り上がりが凄い）が堪らないCaptain Senor Mouse、8/6拍子で展開するChick Corea、Bill Connors驚異のユニゾンが凄まじいThe Game Maker等、本当に聴きどころ満載です！！ここまで終始テンションの高い、テクニカルなパフォーマンスは他ではそう味わえません。まさにフュージョン黄金期へ突入する第2期リターン・トゥ・フォーエヴァーの決定盤が、大好評Gravy Trainレーベルから登場です！

チック・コリア卒いるリターン・トゥ・フォーエバーの73年9月3日「レノックス・ミュージック・イン」におけるサウンドボード収録。冒頭Hymn Of The Seventh Galaxyは黄金期ジャズロックを偲ばせるような、スリリングなレニー・ホワイトによるドラミングが何より聴きものだ。ビル・コナーズによるロック魂溢れるギタープレイも70年代中期のジェフ・ベックのゆおうに変幻自在のプレイを聴かせてくれる。このライヴはアルバム「第七銀河の賛歌」リリース直前に行われたもので、先の１を含む２，４，７，８の５曲が新作からのナンバーとして披露されている。Theme To The Mother Shipはレニーの驚異的なドラムワークの後、ダイナミックが展開が印象的なロングナンバー。続くBass Folk Songはスタンリー・クラークのベース・ラインを核に、ビル・コナーズのギターが炸裂する一曲だ。各プレイヤーが持ち味を存分に発揮したここでのプレイは、絶妙なアンサンブルを産み出すことに成功している。Children’s Song #1の中盤以降で聴かれるインタープレイは、あのBB&Aを凌駕するほどのインパクトを聴き手にあたえてくれる爽快な演奏が聴きもの。「アランフェス協奏曲」からインスパイアされたお馴染みのSpainも、このメンバー構成でなくては成し得ない、独特の緊張感が終始キープされている。Captain Senor Mouseはスピード感溢れるリズムの中、ビルのギターとチック・コリアのピアノが丁々発止の共演を見せてくれる本作のハイライト。ラテン・フレーバーが持ち味のこの曲をしっかりとサポートしているのは、他でもないレニーのドラムワークである。一方、ラストのGame Makerはの主役はギタリストのビル。80年代初期にキング・クリムゾンが模索していたハイパーサウンドを逸早く導入していたと感じるのは、当方だけではあるまい。第二期リターン・トゥ・フォーエバーという一番ロック色が濃厚だった時期の彼等の魅力が、このライヴに集約されて言っても過言ではない。
