Rainbow first debuted as Richie Blackmores Rainbow, but was later renamed simply Rainbow. This is to showcase the band that was formed by Ritchie, who had already succeeded and was a big name. In that respect, it can be said that it is the same as Paul McCartney & Wings. Ritchie, who had already gained fame in Deep Purple, would form a new band and no one would doubt its success. Although it is a different band, the fusion of blues and hard rock and baroque follows the musicality of deep purple, and it can be said that Ritchie’s musical taste with magnificent stylistic beauty has been completed. Rainbow was formed in 1975, and after several changes in band members, as of May 1980, the members were Graham Bonnet, Cozy Powell, Richie Blackmore, Roger Grover, and Don.・ It was five people of Airy.

Rainbow has already performed in Japan the year after the formation. First visit to Japan in 1976. Ritchie had already visited Japan twice as a deep purple, but this is his first visit to Japan as a rainbow. Richie’s passion for this new band is certain, with concerts in Higashi-Meihan, Kyoto, Fukuoka and Hiroshima. In particular, the last day Budokan was a large one with two performances day and night.

And his second visit to Japan in 1978 was a performance that was even larger than the previous time, when he traveled around the country with 16 performances. It includes local cities such as Kumamoto, Koriyama, Akita, and Niigata, suggesting the popularity of Richie in Japan at the time. None of the artists currently visiting Japan can tour on this scale. It must be noted that the popularity of the game has led to the tragedy of the shogi and the death of the audience.

And the third visit to Japan is 1980, which is recorded in this work. The performances in Japan this year were limited to Tokyo and Osaka only, three performances at the Budokan and three performances at the Osaka Festival Hall. It is also a special note that this is the first performance in Japan since the vocal changed to Graham Bonnet. This work includes the Budokan performance on May 9th, the middle day of the 3 consecutive Budokan performances of this 1980 performance in Japan.

Until now, many performances have already been released for this performance, but this work is a first appearance sound source different from any of them, provided by the person who recorded at the venue at that time. As you can see from the samples, the sound quality is among the best in current viewpoints. It’s strange that this tape had never appeared in the world so far, and it is a wonderful thing that has been completely recorded in high quality from the beginning to the end that you can not imagine its first appearance. However, the recorder has been doing tape trade frequently since that time, and this rainbow Budokan performance seems to be a “ big weapon ” in trade, and maybe it has already been partially converted to CD However, this is the first time this work has been made into a CD from the master of his own recording.

As you know, the tour is accompanied by “Down to Earth” and the opening is “Eyes of the World” of the album. The influence of the shift from a pure hard rock route to a slightly pop and melodious musicality can be seen in concerts. Yatsan’s performance is straightforward and unconventional, and matches the musicality of this period, including past songs such as “Let’s get a rainbow”. And the highlight of the concert will be the long solo of each member in the latter half of the concert. In particular, Don Ailey’s keyboard solo has been a long time. It seems to include the sound of communication with aliens that was impressively used in Encounter.

From Rainbow’s 1980 performance in Japan, the Nippon Budokan performance on May 9 will be completely recorded with the first appearance sound source of ultra-high sound quality provided by the recorder. A permanent press machine with a beautiful picture disc specification. With Japanese obi.
