これが一大全盛を満喫していたワールド・ツアーの全体像。このツアーは公式作品『QUEEN ROCK MONTREAL』にもなっていますが、本作はそれより１年前。「欧州」ツアー10公演目。“ウェンブリー・アリーナ”は３日連続公演で、本作はその初日にあたるコンサートでした。
そんな本作は、過去最高峰を更新するクオリティが絶品。既発もさすがキニー録音という美録音でしたが、本作はさらに鮮やかで端正。特に素晴らしいのは高音。真っ直ぐに美しく伸び、ピアノのタッチどころかヴァイヴの波形が目に浮かぶほどに超繊細。そのフレッシュでナチュラルな鳴りは既発とは雲泥の差であり、本作の後ではあれほど伝統の既発群もくぐもって聞こえてしまいます。そして、鮮やかになればなるほど、キニーの業を思い知る。距離感ゼロというわけではないのですが、その空気感はクリスタル・クリアに透き通り、空間を突き抜ける演奏音やフレディの歌声はレーザー光線のようにビビッド。ほんのりとした空気感はスペクタクルというよりは、鮮明な芯に艶を与えるようなタイプであり、ディテールがまったく隠れない。本来のキニー録音は、ここまで凄かったのか……。日本のブート文化を突き動かしていた名門の底力に気付かされるアップグレード・サウンドなのです。
そのクオリティで描かれるショウがまた凄い。前述のように、このツアーは『QUEEN ROCK MONTREAL』で知られるわけですが、１年間の差でセットも変化しており、公式作品では聴けなかった名曲がたっぷり。序盤の「Mustapha」や「Death On Two Legs」、中盤の「Fat Bottomed Girls」も美味しいですが、それ以上なのが「Need Your Loving Tonight」。シングルカットまでされつつも「中南米#2」までで姿を消し、『QUEEN ROCK MONTREAL』どころかその後のツアーでも演奏されなかったレパートリー。それをキニー・マジック全開の極上サウンドで体験できるのです。
そんなセットに加え、フレディも絶好調なのが嬉しい。天を突く爆テンションともちょっと違いますが、喉の調子がとにかく良い。声の張りは素晴らしく、よく伸びて実に力強い。特に高音が気持ちよく出る。普段はサボり気味な「Let Me Entertain You」も見事に歌い上げ、「Play The Game」では突き抜けるハイが鋭く、「Mustapha」はキレにキレ、「Death On Two Legs」も淀みない。キニー録音の既発は数多くのファンをマニア道に叩き落とした名作でしたが、その原動力は音の良さだけではなく、ショウの素晴らしさにこそあった。それを改めて思い知らされる名唱がたっぷりと詰まっているのです。
