これが“TOUR 2017?2018”の全体像。春先にオセアニアを巡った彼らは３ヶ月のオフを挟んでツアーを再開。本作のケルン公演はその「欧州#2」４公演目にあたるコンサートでした。この間にアダムのソロ活動などは行われず、ひと続きのツアーとなっています。
そんなショウを記録した本作は、それはそれは見事なオーディエンス・ショット。何よりも素晴らしいのは、絶景すぎるアングル。ステージを正面に見すえるスタンド席から撮影されたショットなのですが、この光景が凄い。最前列なのか前列の影は皆無なのですが、それどころかアリーナ席もほとんど入らない。ただひたすら、ステージだけが視界を占領し続ける。それだけならありがちなのですが、その角度も距離も絶妙すぎる。思いっきり引けばステージ全景が現れ、ズームで迫ればアダムやブライアンのウェストアップが画面いっぱいに広がる。しかも、自在に見どころを追っても手ブレを起こさず、見事に安定しているのです。
さらに素晴らしいのは音声。光景と同じく遮蔽物ゼロの超クリア・サウンドで、それこそサウンドボードばりに詳細。広大な手拍子以外にオーディエンス・ノイズがほとんどないのも驚異的です……うーん、どうもこの凄さを、映像美を上手く言葉に出来ていないような期がする。いや本当に凄まじいのです。アップはプロショットのようですし、引きのスペクタクルもド迫力。何しろ、いきなりの開演シーンから最高の見どころ！　『世界に捧ぐ』の巨大ロボットがステージを覆うような壁をぶち抜き、持ち上げていく!!　しかも、そこで奏でられるのは『THE WORKS』の「Tear It Up」。QUEEN＋アダムが演奏するのは、今回の「欧州#2」が初めて。と言いますか、ポール・ロジャース時代にも演奏されず、フレディのラスト・コンサートとなった1986年ネブワース以来の復活です。その後も見どころの連発。「Seven Seas of Rhye」「Tie Your Mother Down」「Play the Game」と美味しい曲が立て続けに繰り出される。これまで“TOUR 2017?2018”を『EDMONTON 2017（Uxbridge 695）』『BIRMINGHAM 2017（Uxbridge 773）』といった傑作録音でレポートしてきましたが、このオープニング・ラッシュはそれらでは聴けなかった曲の塊。同じツアーではあるものの、まったくイメージの違うフレッシュなスタート・ダッシュなのです。
その後は安定のショウ運びとなりますが、それが悪かろうハズがない。今や現代の音楽界で希代のカリスマとなったアダムが歌う名曲たち。その目眩くステージがプロショット級の映像とサウンドで描かれていくのですから。そんな中でハッとなるのがアダムのソロ曲コーナー。2015年には「Ghost Town」、2017年には最新曲「Two Fux」が選ばれていましたが、2018年のチョイスは「Lucy」。これまた今回の「欧州#2」が初登場となる曲で、アルバム『THE ORIGINAL HIGH』でもブライアン・メイがギターを弾いていたナンバー。そのオリジネイター２人による生ステージでもある。そして、極上クオリティだからこそロジャーとタイラー・ウォーレンのドラム・バトルも一層カッコ良く、フレディが登場する「Day-Oh」も胸に迫る。ワンカメの体験感がありながら、プロショットのような見応えもたっぷりの傑作なのです。
