The magic tour full of that glorious atmosphere also showed such a restless performance on the first day … It is the real pleasure of rare sound source that such other side can enjoy.
It is as mentioned in the release one year ago, but it is pleasant, especially during the first half of the show, the performance is running. 今からちょうど一年前、クイーン最後のライブ・ツアーとなってしまった1986年のマジック・ツアーから30年を祝すかのように当店がリリースしたのが「STOCKHOLM 1986: THE FIRST SHOW OF THE MAGIC TOUR」。栄光のツアーの初日を捉えた貴重音源として世界中のマニアの間で評判を呼びました。時間が経過するほど力説されるマジック・ツアーの重要性。そのスタート地点を捉え、しかもプレスCDにて聴くことができるというアドバンテージはあまりに大きかった。何かとリリースされてきた、各種オフィシャルのアイテムのアイテムでは捉えられなかった、初日ならではの緊張感にあふれたステージ。
音質面に関して言うと、この日のオーディエンス録音はお世辞にもツアーの上位にランクインできるレベルではなかった。ウィーンやマンチェスターはもちろん、ましてやベルリンやネブワースには遠く及ばない。とはいってもそこは1986年のオーディエンス録音です、ストレスなく聴けるレベルは維持してくれていました。ただ、もう少し粗さ取れていれば…それがこの音源に対して誰も抱いた印象ではないでしょうか。
そんな音源のリリースから一年、当店はこのストックホルム音源のファースト・ジェネレーション・コピーを遂に入手。果たしてどれほどの違いがあるのか…そんな不安は再生した瞬間に吹き飛ばされました。もう、一聴して解るくらいはっきりとしたアッパー感。文字通り一皮むけてくれたクリアネスが実に素晴らしい！これによって、先に触れた「粗さ」が一掃された点は今回の音源における最大のアドバンテージだと言えるでしょう。

これくらいのクリアネスを持った音質であれば、マニアでなくとも安心して楽しめる。そして音質が良くなったからこそ、さらに際立つツアー初日ならではのドタバタ感。あのグロリアスな雰囲気に満ち溢れたマジック・ツアーも初日はこんなに落ち着きのない演奏を披露していた…そんなアナザー・サイドが楽しめてしまうのがレアな音源の醍醐味というもの。
それは一年前のリリースにおいて触れた通りですが、特にショーの前半は演奏が走りまくっているから楽しい。この妙にスピーディなグルーブ感こそ、ツアーが軌道に乗ってからの演奏とはまったく異質。ライブ・レパートリーとして投入されたばかりの「One Vision」のような曲で粗が目立ってしまうのは仕方ないとしても、本来なら何年も演奏し続けてきて、盤石の演奏が当たり前なはずの「Under Pressure」や「Another One Bites The Dust」ですら、笑っちゃうくらいに演奏が走っている。後者に至ってはフレディが歌い出しを危うく見失いそうになるほどでした。
そうした演奏の粗が散見される一方で、ツアーの初日ということでフレディの声のキレが冴えわたっているということも言っておきたいポイントです。特にオフィシャルのウェンブリー・スタジアム辺りを聴き慣れているような人であれば、この辺りは実に新鮮に映ることでしょう。何度も繰り返しますように、ショーの前半はバンドの演奏の不安定さが目立ち、フレディも緊張している様子が伝わってくるのですが、それでもなお実に伸びやかな歌声を聴かせてくれるのが気持ちいいほど。
この日に限って「Bohemian Rhapsody」がショーの前半で演奏される「通常レパートリー」扱いを受けたこともツアー初日ならではのトピックであると共に、そこで聴かせるフレディの歌声がまた絶好調。見事に伸びる歌声は思わず1981年や82年を彷彿とさせるほどなのです。時には走ったかと思えば、勢いを掴んだ理もするバックの演奏に乗って、フレディの声は絶好調。

そして「Love Of My Life」以降はそれまでの硬さが一気に取れ、それでいて足腰の軽い演奏をバンドが聴かせてくれるのがお見事。マジック・ツアーにおける毎晩の人気パートだった、オールディーズ・アコースティック・コーナーが功を奏し、彼らが緊張から解き放たれたのは明らかでしょう。以降は四人がそれぞれに好調な演奏を聴かせ、「Radio Ga Ga」などは相当にゴキゲンな演奏となっています。それもまたツアー初日ならではの活力にあふれたもの。ところがアンコールではこの日に限って「Friends Will Be Friends」が組み込まれず、過去のツアーと同じ展開であっさりショーが終わってしまうのだから面白い。
元々ツアー初日ならではハプニングや勢いを余すところなく捉えてくれた、マニアには定評のある音源です。しかし今回のアッパー版が登場したことによって、より多くのリスナーにマジック・ツアーの初日を堪能してもらえることでしょう。CD化に際しては、中盤からランダムに狂っていたピッチをアジャストし、より万全な状態での収録を実現させています。
当店が過去に生み出したCD-R「SWEDISH MAGIC NIGHT」において「recorder 1」とされてきた音源が昨年「STOCKHOLM 1986: THE FIRST SHOW OF THE MAGIC TOUR」で待望のプレスCD化。そして今回はファースト・ジェネレーション・コピー使用による文句なしのアッパー版の登場により、世界中のマニアが待ち望んでいたであろう伝説のツアー初日の決定版がリリースされます。本当に最後まで聴きどころが満載！
