そんな本作に収められているのは「1978年４月28日ベルリン公演」。その傑作オーディエンス録音です。1978年と言えば来日公演もなく、“NEWS OF THE WORLD TOUR”と“JAZZ TOUR”が交差した時期。まずは、当時のスケジュールからショウのポジションを確かめてみましょう。

これが『NEWS OF THE WORLD』の日程。このツアーの象徴と言えば、何よりもプロショット＆サウンドボードの『ULTIMATE HOUSTON 1977（Wardour-246）』が君臨しているわけですが、それは序盤「北米」レッグの記録。それに対し、本作はツアー後半「欧州」レッグの12公演目にあたるコンサートなのです。
そんな本作は、まさに“NEWS OF THE WORLD TOUR”のヨーロッパ編を代表するに相応しい名録音。Trialレーベルの名作『BERLIN ’78』より更にジェネ若のマスターを入手。更にピッチを直して、音を整理して聴きやすくなりました。ヨーロッパ No.1のクイーン・コレクターから直に入手した最良のマスター。何よりも素晴らしいのはオンな芯。ヴィンテージ・オーディエンスではあるものの、距離感もほとんど感じさせず、まだまだハードロック然としていたQUEENのパワーと勢いがグイグイと迫ってくる。あまりの勢いに塊のようにも錯覚しますが、よく聴くと輪郭もしっかりとしており、ギターのエッジもベースのラインもくっきりとしている。ちょっとしたAM放送のようなサウンドなのです。
そして、フレディ。器楽隊がどんなにアグレッシヴになろうと、コーラスがぶ厚くなろうと、会場が大歓声に沸こうと、若々しくも青臭さの抜けた歌声がすべてを切り裂いて耳元に飛び込む。その震えるヴィヴラートも力強いシャウトも細部まで鮮やか。“NEWS OF THE WORLD TOUR”の最高峰オーディエンスと言えば、『DEFINITIVE DENMARK NEWS（Wardour-109）』も浮かびますが、本作も勝るとも劣らない。まさに２トップと呼べる名録音なのです。
そのサウンドで描かれるのは、ツアーでも屈指と言われる名演。QUEENにとって初のベルリン公演だったのですが、そのせいもあってかフレディが絶好調！　気持ちいいほど伸びに伸び、身震いするようなヴィヴラートも自由自在。しかも、ハイテンション。思い通りに声が出るのが嬉しいかのように勢いたっぷりでキレもよく、自分のノドを試すかのようにインプロヴァイズも高揚感溢れている。
もちろん、フレディがそこまで好調ならバンドも乗りに乗る。ブライアンが「Bohemian Rhapsody」終盤で音を外す悪い癖が出てしまいますが、そんな細かいミスなどものの数ではない。ハードなドライヴ感が素晴らしい。そして、セットもハードロック感が色濃い。「We Will Rock You」「We Are The Champions」は演奏されつつもまだお約束のアンコール・フィナーレにはなっていない時期で、「Brighton Rock」や「Stone Cold Crazy」もオリジナルに近い。その流れは『DEFINITIVE DENMARK NEWS』でも味わえましたが、さらにスペシャルなのが「Big Spender」！　結成当初からのレパートリーですが、“A DAY AT THE RACES TOUR”の中盤まで。このツアーではほとんど演奏されておらず、アグレッシヴな演奏と共に初期の薫りを運んでくれるのです。
