このように、ワールドツアーのラストに配された日本公演のうち、本作に収められたのは２公演目。「1989年２月４日」のオーディエンス・アルバムなのです。「東京ドーム公演のオーディエンス録音」……もう、これだけで「ボヤボヤのヤバい音」を想像されますよね？　無理もありません。当時、完成から１年も経っていない東京ドームは「音の悪い会場」の代名詞。巨大すぎる距離感、“こだま”まで起きてしまう楽音、そのくせ屋内なので残響が回り込む……。さらに悪いことに、当時はこうした会場特性を把握し切れていないテーパーも多く、名録音どころの話ではなかったのです。
本作のマスターが到着した際にも、そんな「東京ドームのオーディエンス」を覚悟して再生したのですが……ところがどっこい！　これが80年代のドーム!?　確かに大会場感はあるものの、“こだま”どころか、楽音はまったくもって素晴らしくクリアで、歌声もビビッド。「東京ドームにしては」の枕詞もなしに、“LOVESEXY TOUR”のゴージャスな音世界がたっぷりと味わえるライヴアルバムだったのです。
そんなハイクオリティ・サウンドには、秘密があった。実は、当時の東京ドームで離れ業をやってのけた録音家こそ、70年代後半から80年代にかけて日本で活躍した人物。１つ前のジャパンツアー“PARADE TOUR 1986”の大傑作『THE FINAL PARADE（ZION-086）』『COMPLETE OSAKA 1986（ZION-087）』をモノにした名手なのです。この２本をお聴きになった方なら、その技術の凄まじさを実感してくださると思いますが、本作も同じようにオリジナル・カセットからダイレクトにCD化したものなのです。いやはや、それにしても、まさか東京ドームですらマジックを起こせるとは……。
先ほども述べた通り、本作に「東京ドームにしては」の枕詞は不要ですが、「東京ドームならでは」は必要。なんと言ってもスペクタクルが巨大でして、拍手にしても黄色い嬌声にしても、えらく広大。ボリューム的には楽音の比ではないほど小さいのですが、その密度と立体感が広い。「キャー！」の黄色い絨毯が果てが見えないほどに広がり、そのど真ん中をプリンスが堂々と歩いている……そんな錯覚が見えてしまうほどのリアリティなのです。また、極太の楽音にしてもスペクタクルが良い感じ。詳しい録音ポジションは分からないのですが、芯もエッジも鮮やかながら、うっすらふんわりとした残響が遠くへ伸びつつ、なぜか回り込んでこない。これが“LOVESEXY TOUR”のゴージャス感をグッと引き立てているのです。
