この公演は数年前までは3種の音源(※そのうちの1つはBBCから流出したSBD音源)が流通しており、一昔前の代表的タイトルでは『BLACK HOLES IN THE SKY (DFP-159)』が思い浮かぶと思います。しかしその後にそれら既発音源ではカットされていた曲間が収録され、かつ「Time」の頭で分断されていた第2部の『狂気』パートがノーカットで聴ける第4の特上音源が新発掘されました。これは海外から『HOW TIME FLIES (Rover Records 3/4)』というデジパック仕様のタイトルで出たりもしましたが、決定的な一枚となったのは当Sigmaから2008年9月にリリースされた『WHO GOTTA BE CRAZY (Sigma 21)』でした。ブートレッグ専門誌からも「15日のオーディエンス音源の中では最も優れている(※ beatleg誌 vol.100 / 2008年12月号)」として大プッシュされた名タイトルです。しかしこの度、当レーベルは独自にこの第4の音源のオリジナル未加工版を入手しました。ここには「Speak To Me」の開始前にある約2分10秒間(※ メンバーが再登場した時の大歓声とベースの軽いチューニング音を含む)と、「Eclipse」の終演後にある約15秒間(※ 歓声のみ)、そしてアンコール「Echoes」の開始前にある約1分10秒間(※ ギターのチューニング含む)という、本録音のマスターだけが持っていた初登場シーンが含まれていたのです。つまりこれはこの日の最長版という事になります!!

更にもうひとつ嬉しい再発見だったのが、この未加工サウンドは音質が図抜けて優れていた点でした。前述した2008年の『WHO GOTTA BE CRAZY (※以降” 既発盤 “とします)』も素晴らしい音質でしたが、あのサウンドは僅かながらイコライズ調整された音像でした。しかし本作では最長版である事と併せ、その音質もマスター原音そのままの音色を直接プレス盤に定着させた事によるアドヴァンテージが強く出ているのです。テープの経年劣化から生じていたピッチの厳密な調整と、所々に存在した目立つノイズのみは原音の魅力を潰さないよう細心の注意を払って丁寧に緩和してありますが、それ以外は完全にアンプロセスド、マスターに記録されていた完全未加工の生音そのままです。こう書くと「原音なのだから、むしろ音質が劣化した姿なのでは?」という疑問が沸くかもしれませんが、実はその逆なのです。むしろサウンドの純度が高まった事により既発盤よりもストレートでパンチのある高解像サウンドが実現しており、収録音が本来備えていた鋭さとワイド感が甦っているのです。初期Sigmaに携ったエンジニアが何故この威力あるマスター原音を当時わざわざ微調整したのか今となっては分かりませんが、何も手を加えないこの未加工サウンドこそがマスター本来のサウンド・ポテンシャルをパーフェクトに出し切っている事は誰の耳にも明らかでしょう。つまりこの最新作は音像調整して当時ディスク2枚にギュウ詰めした既発盤とは違い、マスター本来の全体像を余裕の3枚組で完全収録した最長版となっているうえ、そのナチュラルでピュアな純正マスターサウンドを原石のまま完全密封する事に初めて成功した、74年11月15日の最上級タイトルなのです!!

ではその甦った未加工のサウンドは一体どんなものなのでしょう? 再生ボタンを押すとマスター録音開始の生々しいキュル音と共に「Shine On You Crazy Diamond」の極上サウンドが広がるのですが、導入のキーボード旋律からして音色の鋭さと鮮やかさがこれまでよりグッと向上しているのが直ぐ分かるほどで、このワイド感と奥行きこそがマスター原音本来の音色である事を直感で理解されると思います。これにより楽曲形成中の未完成な冒頭シーンがますます心に突き刺さること間違いなしですし、1分36秒で突然関係ない曲の断片がPAから流れるこの日ならではのハプニングも一層生々しく現れるのです。歌唱が始まってからもロジャーの生声が広がりのある音として現れ、ベースの動きとドラムが既発盤より浮き出して聴こえる事も特筆されます。また12分50秒付近を境にして完成版では2つに分けられるパートも、ベースとキーボードが眩しい対比を放ちながら進行する姿が既発盤よりスッと立ったサウンドで出ており、終演後のチューニング・シーンもベースの調整中の音(※ 次曲で多用する主要音階のダウンピッキングとハーモニクス)の響き具合から、収録原音の中~低音域がどれだけしっかり録れているかも伺える筈です。そんな「Raving And Drooling」は演奏開始前の約1分50秒間にも渡るモノローグ(※ 余談ですがこれがイントロに使用されたのはこの時が初めてで、このテープは1970年12月22日にフロイド史上唯一ライブ演奏された「Alan’s Psychedelic Breakfast」に使用されたテイクと同じものです)が大変近い音で捉えられており、前曲終了後のチューニングで執拗に調整していたベースの主要音階がトリッキーなアプローチを見せながら、既発盤を超える鋭い音色で御愉しみ戴けます。またギターとキーボードの綴れ合いとクラッシュ・シンバルの打音によるインパクトも鮮やかで、ギターの響きが会場に充満して廻ってゆく姿も更に濃密に出ていますので、既発盤をお持ちの方はこれも要チェックでしょう。尚、演奏終了後少し経った14分35秒付近で僅かなカットが一度入りますが、実はこれはマスターテープのB面に当たる箇所のスタート点です。再度録音ボタンを押した” ガチャ “という音が生々しいですが、その後約2分間も続くチューニング・シーンやMC部分も既発盤以上の高解像ダイレクト・サウンドで御愉しみ戴けますので御期待下さい。「You Gotta Be Crazy」は動き廻るギターが既発盤より鮮明に聴こえる他、後年のアプローチとは微妙に旋律が違うキーボードとのユニゾンがますます鋭い音像で飛び出し、71年頃の「原子心母」演奏中で聴けた様なこの時期特有のファルセット・シーン(※5分35秒~)も別格の神秘サウンドで耳元に届きます。ギターソロでの充実した響きや随所で出てくる浮遊感漂うシーンも過去最高の密度と重みがあり、形成途上にある楽曲の考察、すなわち未完の巨大な音楽が重量感満点で動き、深く呼吸する姿が魅惑の未加工サウンドで御体験戴けるのです。

ディスク2は『狂気』完全再現ですが、ここではまず初登場となるシーンがディスクスタートから約2分10秒間ほど含まれています。つまりは「Speak To Me」の冒頭シーンですが、心臓の鼓動の音とそれに合わせた手拍子、メンバーが再登場した時か照明が再び点いたと思われる時の大歓声、そしてベースの軽いチューニング音が最長版としてここに含まれており、ディスク冒頭から今まで聴いた事の無いマスター原石の姿が耳を愉しませてくれます。勿論ここでも未加工ならではの特級サウンドが広がり、「Breathe」第1音目からサウンドの重みと鮮明さが既発盤とは全く違っている事を実感される筈です。音色と響きは更にタフになり、ダイレクト感が増し、間近から出るギルモアの肉声の生々しさと粘りある中低音の移ろいに仰天されること請け合いでしょう。「On The Run」にしてもこれまでの既発サウンドでは全体が一つの音の塊となっていた印象がありましたが、本作では一つ一つのシーケンサー効果音を完璧に拾っている為、極めて解像度の高いコラージュ感を実感される筈です。「Time」も冒頭のキーボード旋律が時計のコチコチ音と共に幻想的な音色が圧倒的な解像度で出てくるほか、ベースの動きとギターの鋭い音色、ツインボーカルと女性コーラスの対比にも盲を開かれるでしょう。「The Great Gig In The Sky」は曲後半がジャジーに変容するなどやや長尺な感想を持たれている方も多いと思いますが、しかしそれもこのサウンドで体験すると長尺というよりは可能性の模索であった事がハッキリ分かる筈です。「Money」もサックスが前面に出るパートがますます焦点の合うサウンドで飛び出し、ベースとの掛け合いも高音域と中音域の対比がパーフェクトに出ていますし、「Us And Them」もその角の取れたロマンティックな響きが左右チャンネルから激しく滲み出て、瞬発力の高い歌声と息の長い旋律が眩しい融合を果たしている姿が過去最高の音像で現れますので御期待下さい。「Any Colour You Like」はリックならではの旋律が更にブレの無い姿で現れ、これに他の3つの楽器(※ 目立つギターだけではないところがミソです)が密度の高いアンサンブルで寄り添う姿が格別です。また官能的な女性コーラスで引き伸ばされたこの日のオリジナルな展開も、サウンドによるエレガントな挑発そのものと言える音像で御愉しみ戴けるでしょう。「Eclipse」も重心の低いリズムと高音域で舞い上がる女性コーラスが融合した麗しい音色に未加工な音の生々しさをお感じになると思いますが、ここでは既発盤でカットされていた終曲後の歓声も本来の姿で甦っています(※本作3分24秒付近~ディスクエンドまでの約15秒間)。

アンコールとなるディスク3も、既発盤ではカットされていた歓声がディスク冒頭に約1分10秒間ほど含まれています。しかもこの間は歓声だけでなく、僅かながらギターのサウンド・チェックが入っているのも嬉しいところでしょう。アンコール曲は勿論「Echoes」ですが、曲紹介MCに続く導入シーンを少し聴いただけで音の密度がこれまでとは比較にならないほど向上し、音の締まりと響きの拡散が一層鋭く出ている事に仰天される筈です。74年ならではのリックらしい音の移ろいやギルモアでしか有り得ないスライドギターの音色がますます神秘的な残響感と共に甦り、9分26秒付近以降ではベース旋律が跳ね廻って、これと呼応する様にニックもトリッキーな展開をするというこの日ならではの姿が過去最高の解像度で飛び出しますので是非チェックして戴きたいと思います。鳴き声シーンの後では、厚くて深いところから音楽の姿をしたアホウドリが嘴を上げてゆっくりと、そして音楽そのものが高く真っ直ぐに飛翔する姿がマスター原音ならでの特A級サウンドで甦っており、これはもうソースの未加工感を満喫するというよりは、熱っぽい知の充足に打ち震える感激そのものであると断言しておきましょう。

また今回は未加工版という事でジャケも新装されていますが、曲と曲をトラック分けするデバイド点も改めて精査された事で、本作はトラック分けの厳密さが一新されている事も隠れたアッパーポイントです。しかし何よりもディスク収録時間の関係から削れるところは削って2枚組に詰め込んだ既発盤と、ディスクを3枚にする事でマスター録音の真の姿とサウンドの威力をフルボリュームで伝える本作とではその差がどれだけ大きいか、熱心なファンであればこそ本能的に御理解戴けるのではないかと思います。そのサウンドの波動、74年晩秋のフロイドが持っていた特別な陶酔感、何もかもがマスターソースそのままのタフな姿で迫ってくるこの最新タイトルを今週末は是非手に取り、その興奮をお確かめ下さい。未加工であるが故に導き出せたもの、すなわち74年フロイドの真価が原石の輝きと最長の姿でパーフェクトに描出される決定盤です!!
