Syd Barrett died 14 years ago today (July 7, 2006). A masterpiece documentary that approaches the legend of shining diamonds that influenced PINK FLOYD in the dimension of the soul will be released as a gift.
This work is a special program “THE PINK FLOYD & SYD BARRETT STORY” produced by the prestigious BBC in 2001. Although it is a masterpiece program that has been officially made into a DVD, this work is not a copy of such an official product. This is a Japanese broadcast version featured on a satellite broadcasting channel specializing in music in November 2008, two months after Richard Wright passed away.

[Tokuno, super hot, huge commentary corner] At our shop, we are archiving a number of music programs with the finest master by a core recording enthusiast in Japan, and this work is also one of them. Since it was broadcast in 2008, the quality is completely official, and Japanese subtitles are also available. This is a special version with a lot of unique points in Japan unique to this broadcast.
First of all, the commentary corner unique to the program is amazing. In Japanese Western music broadcasting, commentary corners are often set up for introductory purposes before the main story, but most of them are just a little narration or a simple introduction to history and bands. Generally, it takes about 2 to 3 minutes. However, this program is different. About 10 and a half minutes at the beginning and 4 minutes to bake in the middle. In total, it takes about 15 minutes to explain.
Moreover, this is not only long but also dark. To the fullest, Yui Nobu. After all, the guide is a singer from the Japanese band THE COLLECTORS. As you may know, this person is also known for his deep devotion to British rock, and he is an avid fan of early FLOYD, such as the band “THE BIKE” that he formed when he was a student. “There was progressive rock …” “It was LP at that time …”, etc., he seems to be conscious of beginners, but the content of the story is not so at all. (Lol). At that time, the content that talked about the shock received from FLOYD and Sid was enthusiastic, “I was listening to the prog rock with the feeling that the deviation value increased by about 5” “I think Emily is the coolest song in the world” “I have a picture of Sid I went to a beauty salon and asked for this perm. “And so on … I made a series of comments that made me feel painful even if I didn’t do the same thing. Even Amatsu even said, “I bought a lot of videos just because it says’Sid’at a boot shop in Nishi-Shinjuku.” (However, it’s a little puzzling not to mention Rick’s death at all. Was it recorded before he died?).

[Deep masterpiece documentary because of the prestigious BBC] After 10 minutes or more of heat valve (of course, it is cut in a chapter, so those who are not good at heat valve can skip it), the main part finally starts. This is another masterpiece. The program is orthodox, and the valuable footage of the time and interviews with the people involved will deeply and deeply dig into Sid’s memories. Not to mention the four members (Rick will also appear because it was produced in 2001), as well as the key persons of the early FLOYD such as Bob Close, manager Peter Jenner, Mike Leonard, etc. Appeared. Furthermore, in the comments of people who know him deeply, such as Libby Chisman who was Sid’s girlfriend, Jerry Sherry of HUMBLE PIE who participated in Sid’s solo work, Mick Rock of photographer, etc., a person named “Syd Barrett” It is drawn from multiple angles.
Of course, the comments aren’t much different than they used to be, and most people praise him for being who he is and for letting go of his talent. The only thing that is clearly different is Nick Mason. Sid’s drug habit ruined the tour and said, “I feel like I should laugh or kill him.” Of course, it’s an old laugh, so it’s not as hard as it gets in letters, but it’s literally after that. He looks straight and says, “I don’t remember feeling sympathetic to Sid.” When this documentary was produced, it felt harsh, but looking back on the present, it is Nick who leads SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS and continues to hand down Sid’s music. If you have real experience, you may sympathize with it, but the serious problems of his family and close friends are not clean. Whether or not he professes, Nick’s words are so real because he was up close.
Also, other than comments, it is deep. The making of the program begins with the encounter between Roger and Sid (about 9 years old) in the royal road time series, but after that, joining FLOYD, the legendary UFO club, the secret story of the creation of famous songs, etc. will be revealed one after another. Of course, early FLOYD and Sid’s solo songs are played in the BGM, but the lyrics are also subtitled. The narration that synchronizes the collapsing spirit of Sid with the music creates even a strange power.

[Large amount of bonus footage added uniquely to the program] The main part of such a documentary was full, but I’m afraid that this program is still half (!). In the second half of the show, a bonus video was broadcast for about 50 minutes. The contents are an additional interview with Gilmour, which was also included in the bonus of the regular DVD version “THE PINK FLOYD & SYD BARRETT STORY”, a cover of Sid by Robbie Hitchcock and Graham Coxon (BLUR guitarist), “Arnold Layne” Clip etc. Hitchcock and Coxson also appear in the main documentary, and you can feel the music left by Sid in a wide range.
Of course, this alone does not take 50 minutes. In this program, the images of PINK FLOYD itself, such as live performances and clips from “PULSE”, are also added. As a matter of fact, I don’t really feel any connection with Sid except for “Wish You Were Here”, but the main point of the program seems to be “I want you to take this opportunity to become interested in FLOYD” (rather, I wonder if people who don’t know FLOYD will watch Sid’s documentary program …).

It is a masterpiece of a documentary program that is deeply made and highly evaluated, and it is a tremendous special version with a heart-warming commentary corner and a huge bonus video. There are many original projects of Nippon Broadcasting System, but there are not so many special programs that are so hot, rich, and full of services. One that I would like those who have the official version DVD to experience. Please take this opportunity to fully enjoy it.
