Pink Floyd’s 1987 stereo SBD recording dramatically improves sound quality with a new source including the first appearance scene! It is a surprising latest work that you can feel the sound quality improvement in all scenes !!!

Stereo SBD recording of Floyd 87 … For fans, this is a bit more, but this is known for being very small. Specific examples include a rehearsal recording in an aircraft hangar before the tour began on August 7, a Miami performance on November 1, and a JFK stadium on September 19 in Philadelphia. The stereo SBD of this JFK sound source was recorded only in the first half of the show, but it has been a well-known source since the rarity of SBD in 1987, and it appeared on the ROTATION label “ HAND OF FATE (ROTA-05) ” in 1993 The title has become known. This Sigma label also remastered this source on Disc 4 of the four-disc press board CD called “JFK Stadium 1987 (Sigma 123)”, but this source that was too many generations could be remastered The narrowness of the sound range unlike the SBD and the severity of the sound cracking could not be wiped out, leaving the frustration that the characteristics were not fully utilized despite being a stereo SBD.

But did you know that recently a new source for this SBD has appeared on the net, and its dramatically upgraded sound quality has become a hot topic among fans? According to the uploader, it seems that the cassette tape of the 2nd Gen is the original, but the sound directly from the master recording is recorded on Disc 4 of the aforementioned “JFK Stadium 1987” (* hereinafter referred to as “previously released”) It boasted a remarkably outstanding sound quality compared to the source.

However, there are two drawbacks that cannot be overlooked in this online release version source. The first was “Sorrow,” which had a missing scene that was probably due to a tape change in the master recording, and this new source also had about three minutes, just like the earlier releases. However, in this work, in this work, this missing scene is compensated by the AUD recording of the same day synchronized with the waveform 1/1000, and the perfect repair is applied so that it can be heard seamlessly without discomfort. Another disadvantage of the online version was the annoying noise that occurred frequently on the right channel from around 5:52 on the “On The Turning Away” to the mid 7 minutes. This noise was also present in the already released board (* It is probably due to the master recording), but this work succeeded in completely removing this noise for the first time (* The world’s first It’s a feat!). With this disappearance, the listening comfort is greatly improved, and this work has gained quality superiority not only from the already released board but also from the newly released source. Also, it turned out that the pitch of the already released board was quite fast with the appearance of this source, but it has been corrected again with the correct pitch so as not to step on the same rut as the already released board, so in all scenes You can enjoy the correct sound of stereo SBD.

Well, that’s the content, but it’s another 1CD, so it’s a big deal in the upper scene of the prime. For example, the beginning of “Echoes” is a cut-in from the middle of the singing part in this work, but this time the position starts about 2 minutes before the already released board. This was set up on August 7, just before the start of the World Tour, by setting up an actual set in the airplane hangar of the airline “AIR CANADA” (* Floyd will use it to carry crew and equipment in this tour). This is because the SBD recording at the time of the through rehearsal was supplemented by supplementation. In both cases, the discomfort at the time of source shift is almost zero only in the same SBD, and if you do not write that it is connected here, you will be able to enjoy songs longer than ever before at a level that you will not know or notice. The upper part of the sound image is noticeable in the part of “Nothing Part 14” which rises after the albatross call. Since the hiss noise of “Sat” disappeared, the weak sound is very easy to hear, so the tone of the synthesizer and the guitar that is carved with mute, the sharpness of the cymbal coming in from 12:29 and the tone of the tom are outstanding It leaves a lingering sound that far exceeds the already released version.

“Learning To Fly” also has a great benefit of the hiss noise drastically reduced, and the harmony of female vocals and Gilmore coming from the right side appears with a more responsive sound. The ensemble that is carried one after another at a close distance is also attracting attention, and the sharpness and loudness of each instrument sound are full of upper feeling. “Yet Another Movie” will be all about improving the amazing explosion of bass. Thickness and weight of the tone, which is overwhelmingly higher than the already released board, appear in a rich sound, and it is a tremendous dynamic as if the woofer function is turned on. This will also make the melody of the guitar treble more dazzling and will surely take your breath away from its radiating power. “Terminal Frost” loses the crisp low-pitched sound, and the saxophone that sings in the mid-high range has a clear difference in tone resolution. The sound of each instrument with overlapping energy evolves into an unexperienced high-resolution sound.

フロイド87年のステレオSBD録音・・・。ファンには今更な話ですが、これは非常に少ない事で知られています。具体例を挙げますと8月7日のツアー開始前に航空機格納庫で行われたリハーサル録音、11月1日のマイアミ公演、そして9月19日・フィラデルフィアのJFKスタジアムです。このJFK音源のステレオSBDはショウ前半だけの収録ではあるものの87年のSBDという珍しさから以前からよく知られたソースで、1993年に『HAND OF FATE (ROTA-05)』というROTATIONレーベルから登場したタイトルでその存在が知られる様になりました。当Sigmaレーベルからも『JFK Stadium 1987 (Sigma 123)』という4枚組プレス盤CDのディスク4にこのソースをリマスター収録していましたが、世代を重ね過ぎたこのソースはリマスタリングしてもSBDらしからぬ音域の狭さと音割れの酷さが拭い切れず、ステレオSBDでありながらもその特性が充分活きないもどかしさを残していました。

しかし最近になってこのSBDに新しいソースがネット上に登場、その飛躍的にグレードアップした音質がファンの間で話題になったのを御存知でしょうか。アップローダーによると2nd Genのカセットテープが大元になっている様なのですが、そのマスター録音直系のサウンドは前述した『JFK Stadium 1987』のディスク4(※ 以下、” 既発盤 “とします)収録のソースより桁違いに鮮度抜群の音質を誇っていたのです。

ところがこのネット公開版ソースにも見過ごせない欠点が2つ存在していました。ひとつは「Sorrow」で、恐らくマスター録音のテープチェンジによるものと思われるシーンの欠落が既発盤同様に約3分間、この新登場ソースにも生じていたのです。しかし今回の音盤化にあたって本作ではこの欠落シーンを波形1/1000で同期させた同日のAUD録音で補填、違和感無くシームレスに聴き通せるよう完璧なリペアを施しています。またネット公開版のもうひとつの欠点は「On The Turning Away」の5:52付近から7分台半ばまで右チャネルに多発していた耳障りなノイズの存在でした。このノイズもまた既発盤に存在していましたが(※ 恐らくマスター録音に起因するものと思われます)、本作ではこのノイズも初めて完璧に取り除く事に成功しています(※ 世界初の快挙です!)。これが無くなった事によって聴き心地が格段に上がり、既発盤は勿論のこと公開された新ソースからも本作は品質的な優位性を獲得しているのです。また今回のソース登場によって既発盤のピッチがかなり速かった事も判明したのですが、既発盤と同じ轍を踏まないようそれも改めて正しいピッチで補正し直していますので、全てのシーンでステレオSBDの正しい音が御愉しみ戴ける様になっています。

さてその内容ですが、これがもう1CDなのにてんこ盛りのアッパー・シーンで大変な事になっています。例えば「Echoes」の冒頭は本作でも歌唱パート途中からのカット・インですが、今回はその位置が既発盤より約2分間ほど手前から始まっているのです。これはワールド・ツアー開始直前の8月7日、航空会社” AIR CANADA “(※ フロイドがこの時のツアーでクルーと機材運搬のため使用する事になる)の機体格納庫に実際のセットを組んで行われた通しリハーサル時のSBD録音を補填で継ぎ足している為です。どちらも同じSBDだけにソース・シフト時の違和感が殆どゼロであり、ここで繋いでいると書かなければまず判らない・気付かないレベルでこれまでより長尺に曲を楽しめる様になっています。音像のアッパー感が際立ってくるのはアホウドリ鳴き声の後から立ち上がる” Nothing Part 14 “のパートです。” サーッ “というヒスノイズが消えた事で弱音が非常に聞き取り易くなっているためシンセサイザーの音艶やミュートで刻まれるギター、12:29から入ってくるシンバルの刻みの鋭さやタムの弾け具合が格段に向上しており、既発盤を遥かに超える響きの余韻を残してくれるのです。

「Learning To Fly」もヒスノイズが激減した恩恵が大きく、右側から入ってくる女性ボーカルとギルモアによるハーモニーが一層手応えあるサウンドで登場します。至近距離で次々と運ばれてくるアンサンブルも注目で、楽器音ひとつひとつの鋭さとラウドさにアッパー感が漲っています。「Yet Another Movie」は低音域の驚異的な炸裂感の向上、これに尽きるでしょう。既発盤より圧倒的にランクアップした音色の厚みと重みが量感豊かなサウンドで現れ、まるでウーファ機能がONになっているかの様な凄まじいダイナミックさです。またこれによってギター高音の鳴きの旋律が更に眩しさを増し、その響きの放射力に息を呑むこと確実でしょう。「Terminal Frost」はジャリジャリした低音域の音の粗さが無くなり、中～高音域で歌いまくるサックスも音色の解像度の違いが歴然。エネルギーが重なり合う各楽器の出音が未体験の高解像サウンドで展開するのです。
