Nine years ago, that masterpiece that shocked FLOYD collectors around the world and became very popular as “OFFENBACH 1971 (Sigma 69)” in our shop is also the 1st Gene. Omoto’s original recording cassette has already been lost, and it has been regarded as the definitive board as “the ultimate gene that can not be traced any further”. However, this work is neither a copy nor a remaster. Whereas the 2012 version was “1st Gene Reel”, this work was digitized from “1st Gene Cassette”. As a matter of fact, in 2012, it was judged that “Lille would be better”, but it was Mr. Balsam who recorded it who disagreed with it. He died in 2019, but just before that, he said, “I want the cassette master to be digitized.” Two years later, a new master was born with the wishes of Mr. Balsam on the 50th anniversary year.

Actually, it was not only Mr. Balsam who recorded this show, but there was another recording that recorded the Angkor part, and it was recorded in the legendary LP bootleg “PICTURES OF PINK FLOYD Volume One”. The main song was “November 28, 1970 Saarbrücken performance”, but only two songs “Atom Heart Mother (Reprise)” and “Pink Blues” were the same “February 26, 1971 Offenbach performance”. It is. As you can see, this week, the highest peak update version of the legendary LP “PICTURES OF PINK FLOYD: REVISED EDITION (Sigma 274)” will be released at the same time, but it is also adopted in this work. Complemented with the latest transfer version. その伝説録音が記録されたのは「1971年２月26日オッフェンバッハ公演」。その極上オーディエンス録音です。この録音は、まさに歴史的銘品。1970年ハイド・パークを録音した事でも知られるマーティン・バルサム（Marbal）氏の作品で、ジェフリー・ミッチェル指揮によるブラス・コーラス隊も参加した初期「Atom Heart Mother」の貴重な記録として古くからの定番として君臨。名録音の宿命として時代毎にアップグレードが探求されており、当店でもSirene時代から『OFFENBACH 1971』『OFFENBACH MASTER』等の名作が愛されてきました。本作は、そんなアップグレード史の新たな１ページでありつつ、録音から50周年を記念して公表された新マスター。1stジェネ・カセットから精緻にデジタル化された決定盤なのです。
熱心なコレクターの方なら、ここで「1stジェネって前にもなかった？」と思われるかも知れません。実はそれも正解。９年前、世界中のFLOYDコレクター間に衝撃を呼び、当店でも『OFFENBACH 1971（Sigma 69）』として大好評となったあの名作も1stジェネ。大元オリジナルの録音カセットはすでに失われており、「これ以上遡れない究極ジェネ」として決定盤とされてきました。しかし、本作はそのコピーでもリマスターでもない。2012年版が「1stジェネ・リール」だったのに対し、本作は「1stジェネ・カセット」からデジタル化されたものなのです。実のところ、2012年の際には「リールの方が優れているだろう」と判断されたのですが、それに異を唱えたのは録音したバルサム氏本人。氏は2019年に亡くなってしまいましたが、その直前に「カセット・マスターの方をデジタル化して欲しい」と自ら持ちかけたそう。そして、それから２年が経ち、50周年のアニバーサリー・イヤーにバルサム氏の遺志を汲んだ新マスターが誕生したのです。

実際、そのサウンドは最高峰でありベスト。録音自体は従来版と同じですので、極太な芯や距離のないダイレクト感は本作も同じ。差を生み出しているのは、それよりも保存性や解像度、そして鳴りでしょう。今から聴くと前回のリール・マスターはわずかにザラ付いて感じられますが、本作は明らかに艶やかでぶ厚く、実に豊かなリッチ・サウンド。保存状態の差もあるのか、経年劣化も極少で50年前の出音が見事に甦ってくる。前述の通り、大元の録音カセットは失われており、バルサム氏もすでに亡い。遺された最上の1stジェネでもより優れたカセット・マスターである本作は、まさに無上無類の至高作なのです。
そんなバルサム録音によるセット本編だけでなく、本作はアンコール・パートも最高峰を更新しています。実は、このショウを録音していたのはバルサム氏だけではなく、アンコール・パートを記録した別録音も存在しており、伝説的LPブートレッグ『PICTURES OF PINK FLOYD Volume One』に収録されていた。メインはあくまで「1970年11月28日ザールブリュッケン公演」でありつつ、「Atom Heart Mother (Reprise)」「Pink Blues」の２曲だけが本作と同じ「1971年２月26日オッフェンバッハ公演」だったのです。もうご理解いただけると思いますが、今週は奇しくも伝説LPの最高峰更新盤『PICTURES OF PINK FLOYD: REVISED EDITION（Sigma 274）』も同時リリースとなりますが、本作に採用されているのも、その最新トランスファー・バージョンで補完されている。もちろん、本編バルサム・マスターとは録音が異なるわけですが、どちらも規格外なダイレクト感が強烈な名録音には違いない。本作では可能な限り質感を近づけ、１本の音楽作品として違和感のない仕上がりを実現致しました。
