While the popular “MSG 1977 FINAL NIGHT (Sigma 297)” is still fresh in our memory, more masterpieces have already appeared. The name recording refined by “GRAF ZEPPELIN” mastering will be a complete version and will be permanently preserved.
It was “Madison Square Garden performance on July 3, 1977” that was imbued with such a work. It is an excellent audience recording that you can experience the whole story. Speaking of MSG in 1977, not only the aforementioned “MSG 1977 FINAL NIGHT” but also “DEFINITIVE MSG 1977 (Sigma 192)” is a big standard. The whole picture of the tour was just mentioned in the explanation of “MSG 1977 FINAL NIGHT”, so let’s take a closer look at “North America # 2 Leg” here.

This is the “North America # 2 leg” from June to July 1977. We have archived with a diverse lineup, but the MSG performance is at the end of it. It was 4 consecutive performances of “July 1, 2, 3, 4”. Among them, this work is the third performance. It was a show connecting “DEFINITIVE MSG 1977” and “MSG 1977 FINAL NIGHT”. It is known that such a show has been recorded for a long time, and it has been loved as “ANIMAL COPS (part)” in our shop. This work is based on the famous recording, but complements the lack with other recordings. It is one that has updated the longest and highest peak ever. To help you understand the upgrade, let’s organize the records known to date.

-Source 1: Mono recording. It’s not bad for 3rd Gene, but the treble is tight.
-Source 2: Mono recording. Best sound of the day. ← ★ Main of this work ★
-Source 3: Mono recording. Hiss is tight and sound is harsh.
-Source 4: Mono recording. Clear recording next to “Source 2”. ← ★ Sub of this work ★
-Source 5: Stereo. The sound is good with the 2nd gene, but the affinity is bad. Only 2 songs “Money” and “Us And Them”.

The above 5 types. I researched it again, but the best is the traditional recording “Source 2”. This work records many missing parts of “Source 2” and complements it with “Source 4”, which has a similar sound. It is the first complete live album that covers all the performance parts, although it lacks a slight cheer.
Of course, not only the longest ever, but the sound that goes through the whole story is also the highest ever. It has been re-polished by the precision mastering of “GRAF ZEPPELIN”, and the pitch, phase, noise processing and wow and flutter are adjusted with the highest precision. Especially, the one that I listen to is the phase. If you have experienced the previous outbreaks, you may have the image that “MSG 3rd day is to the left”, but that was also a misunderstanding that was born by mistake. As mentioned above, “Source 2” was originally recorded in monaural. The localization cannot shift from side to side.
Then why did this happen? The phase shift of vintage recording occurs mainly due to the slight shift of the head position when dubbing to a stereo cassette. Of course, the more dubbing you do, the bigger the gap will be. However, this recording is also known to have few dubbing marks. In other words, even though it was a young Gene that hadn’t been dubbed so much, for some reason only the phase was daringly out of phase. It’s a complete guess from here, but maybe it was intentionally processed to “make it look like stereo” in the process of distribution. Of course, in modern times these old-fashioned tricks are just an obstacle. In this work, I returned to the monaural sound after phase correction. Not only has the sense of stability increased, but the original appearance of the recording has emerged realistically, and the affinity with “Source 4”, which was also a monaural recording, has improved dramatically. It is a live album that you can immerse yourself in the live performance of 45 years without any discomfort.
The longest and highest peak sound is drawn toward the completion of the tour … No, it is a tense full show that will be linked to “The Wall” at a later date. “IN THE FLESH Tour” is also known for Roger’s frustration with fans who make firecrackers, but this work is out of patience. It’s a show that is yelling at the audience. The disturbing air exploded from the beginning. A little less than a minute after “Pigs On The Wing Part 1” started, a firecracker rang, but Roger sang gently but unintentionally muttered “You cunt!” (But clearly).
The frustration explodes in the following “Dogs”. After about two and a half minutes, the firecrackers (or explosive sounds like bombs) reverberate. Roger also tries to concentrate on the song and the performance, but the re-explosion after the performance finally ends. He shook his voice and shouted “You stupid mother fxxker!” And slammed the firecracker. The audience was also praised by Yanya, but Roger’s anger did not subside. He manages to start “Pigs On The Wing part 2”, but his angry cutting sounds intense and he loses sight of the composition. It’s a super-realistic scene where you can play it again while saying “I made a mistake”, and while it’s extremely rare, the raw emotions are also exposed.
After that, the mood was tingling. When I finish “Pigs (Three Different Ones)” and take a break, I shout “Don’t ring fireworks!”, And even before “Us And Them”, “People who didn’t bring fireworks, today Thank you for coming. We also enjoyed it. ” The next day, Roger might have given up on “MSG 1977 FINAL NIGHT”, but his reaction was sluggish while he was tired of the firecrackers, but in this work he is quite aggressively angry.

It is a full live album that has updated the longest and highest peaks by brushing up the famous recordings that had been left untouched until now. It’s a masterpiece as a single musical piece, and it’s also a great document to experience Roger’s anger up close. And it is one that is indispensable for MSG’s masterpiece trilogy collection. ★ The main source is Rec2 of monaural Aud, which is the same sound source as the existing Sigma and STTP.
The sub-source for compensation is supplemented with Rec4 of monaural Aud, and the performance part is completely recorded for all songs.

Therefore, although this board is a pseudo, it will be the first complete recording board title of the performance part.

そんな本作に吹き込まれているのは「1977年7月3日マディソン・スクエア・ガーデン公演」。その一部始終を体験できる絶品オーディエンス録音です。1977年のMSGと言えば、前述の『MSG 1977 FINAL NIGHT』だけでなく『DEFINITIVE MSG 1977(Sigma 192)』も大定番。ツアーの全体像は『MSG 1977 FINAL NIGHT』の解説で触れたばかりですので、ここでは「北米#2レッグ」をさらに詳細に見てみましょう。

これが1977年6月ー7月の「北米#2レッグ」。多彩なラインナップでアーカイヴしてきましたが、MSG公演はその終盤。「7月1日・2日・3日・4日」の4連続公演でした。その中で本作は3公演目。『DEFINITIVE MSG 1977』と『MSG 1977 FINAL NIGHT』の間を繋ぐショウでした。そんなショウは以前から名録音が残された事が知られており、当店でも『ANIMAL COPS(一部)』として愛されてきました。本作は、その名録音をベースにしつつ、他録音で欠けを補完。過去最長・最高峰を更新した1本なのです。そのアップグレード内容をご理解いただくためにも、現在までに知られている記録を整理してみましょう。

・Source 1:モノ録音。3rdジェネで悪くはないものの、高音がキツめ。
・Source 2:モノ録音。同日のベスト・サウンド。 ←★本作のメイン★
・Source 3:モノ録音。ヒスがキツく、音的に厳しい。
・Source 4:モノ録音。「Source 2」に次ぐクリア録音。 ←★本作のサブ★
・Source 5:ステレオ。2ndジェネで音も良いが、親和性が悪い。2曲「Money」「Us And Them」のみ。

以上の5種類。改めてリサーチし直しましたが、やはりベストは伝統録音の「Source 2」。本作は、その「Source 2」の欠けパートを多く記録しつつ、音も近い「Source 4」で補完したもの。極わずかな歓声が欠けてはいるものの、演奏パートはすべて網羅した初の完全収録ライヴアルバムなのです。
もちろん過去最長だけでなく、全編を貫くサウンドも過去最高。「GRAF ZEPPELIN」の精密マスタリングで磨き直されており、ピッチも位相もノイズ処理もワウフラも最高精度で整えられています。特に聴いて一発なのは位相でしょう。これまでの既発を体験された方なら「MSG3日目は左寄り」というイメージをお持ちかと思いますが、それは誤って生まれた誤解でもありました。上記したように「Source 2」は元からモノラル録音。定位が左右にズレるはずもないのです。
では、どうしてこのような事が起きたのか? ヴィンテージ録音の位相ズレは、主にステレオ・カセットへのダビングの際にヘッドの微妙な位置のズレて起こります。もちろんダビングを重ねれば重ねるほど、そのズレは大きくなっていきます。しかし、この録音はダビング痕がほとんどない事でも知られている。つまり、それほどダビングを経ていない若ジェネなのに、なぜか豪快に位相だけがズレていたのです。ここからは完全に推測ですが、もしかしたら流通の過程で「ステレオっぽくしよう」とわざと加工したのかも知れません。もちろん、現代においてこうした古臭い小細工は邪魔でしかない。本作では、位相補正の上でモノラル・サウンドに立ち返らせた。安定感が増しただけでなく、録音本来の姿がリアルに浮かび上がり、同じくモノラル録音であった「Source 4」との親和性も格段に向上。45年の生演奏に何の違和感もなく没入できるライヴアルバムに仕上げられているのです。
そんな最長・最高峰サウンドで描かれるのはツアー完遂に向けて……いえ、後日の『ザ・ウォール』にも連なっていく緊迫のフルショウ。“IN THE FLESH Tour”は、ロジャーが爆竹騒ぎを起こすファンにフラストレーションを溜めていった事でも知られていますが、本作はその堪忍袋の緒がブチ切れ。観客に怒鳴り散らしているショウなのです。その不穏な空気は序盤から炸裂。「Pigs On The Wing Part 1」が始まって1分弱のところで爆竹が鳴るのですが、ロジャーは穏やかに歌いながらも思わず「You cunt!」とつぶやくように(しかし、ハッキリと)挟み込む。
そのイライラが爆発するのが、続く「Dogs」。約2分半のところで再び爆竹(と言いますか、爆弾のような炸裂音)が鳴り響く。ロジャーもその場は曲と演奏に集中しようとしますが、演奏後の再爆発に遂に緒が切れる。声を震わせて「You stupid mother fxxker!」と叫び、爆竹野郎に暴言を叩きつけるのです。その言葉に観客はヤンヤの大喝采も送られるわけですが、ロジャーの怒りは収まらない。なんとか「Pigs On The Wing part 2」を始めるものの、怒りのカッティングが強烈に鳴り、思わず構成も見失う。「間違えちまった」と言いながら弾き直す当たり、激レアでありつつ生の感情も丸出しの超リアルなシーンなのです。
その後もムードはピリピリ。「Pigs (Three Different Ones)」を終えて休憩に入る際にも「花火を鳴らすんじゃねえ!」と叫びますし、「Us And Them」前にも「花火を持ってこなかった人たち、今日は来てくれてありがとう。僕達も楽しかったよ」と嫌味たっぷりに挨拶している。翌日『MSG 1977 FINAL NIGHT』では諦めたのか、爆竹にウンザリしながら反応は鈍かったロジャーですが、本作ではかなりアグレッシヴに怒りをぶちまけているのです。

これまで欠けが放置されていた名録音をブラッシュアップし、最長・最高峰を更新したフル・ライヴアルバムです。1本の音楽作品としても傑作で、ロジャーの怒りを間近体験するドキュメントとしても凄絶。そして、MSGの傑作3部作コレクションにも欠かせない1本です。どのような愉しみ方でも避けて通れない新名盤。永久保存プレス2CDで存分にご堪能ください。

よって、本盤が疑似ながらも初の演奏パート完全収録盤タイトルとなる。
