Live at Madison Square Garden, New York City, MY, USA 7th October 1987

1987 PINK FLOYD returned to the stage for the first time in 6 years since “THE WALL Tour”. Introducing a live album where you can experience the early stages of the “A MOMENTARY LAPSE OF REASON Tour”, which was overwhelming with a huge spectacle.
It was “October 7, 1987 New York performance” that was imbued with such a work. This is an excellent audience recording recorded at the iconic large venue “Madison Square Garden (hereinafter MSG)”. Speaking of MSG in 1987, the popular “MADISON SQUARE GARDEN 1987 1ST NIGHT (Amity 629)” is also new to my memory, but this work is a separate performance even at the same venue. It’s also a good time to archive 1987 with our collection.

<< September 7 “Depression” released >>
・ September 9-17 (6 performances)
・ September 19 “PHILADELPHIA 1987 SOUNDBOARD”
・ September 21 “ECHOES FROM TORONTO”
・ September 22-27 (5 performances)
・ September 28, “NEW WIND OF CHANGE (Rosemont)”
・ September 30: Milwaukee performance
・ October 3 “THE LOUD HOUSE 1987 (Syracuse)”
・ October 5 “MADISON SQUARE GARDEN 1987 1ST NIGHT”
・ October 6: MSG performance (2nd day)
・ October 7: MSG performance (3rd day) ← ★ This work ★
・ October 10-16 (6 performances)
・ October 17, “PROVIDENCE FROST 1987”
・ October 19th-December 10th (34 performances)

The “depression tour” itself continued intermittently until July 1989, two years later, but here we have narrowed it down to 1987 when the new FLOYD started. MSG will have three nights in a row, and this is the final day. In terms of the tour as a whole, it was the 19th concert, just one month after the album was released.
This work, which was vacuum-packed at such a site, was a truly neat and exquisite recording. It is also known that the audience video was left on this day, but of course this work is recorded separately. To be honest, it’s not the type that you can expect a soundboard-like close contact, but that doesn’t mean it’s far. While the rhythm section and synths assemble the world softly, the guitar and vocals that penetrate the center of the world are very clear and vivid. The sound is clearly Gilmour-focused. It’s no wonder if it’s just about volume balance, but what’s interesting is that the brightness and details are also Gilmour-centric. Synths and basses fill the big venue with vague outlines, but Gilmour’s guitars are beautiful not only in melody but also in picking, and vocals can hear the lyrics properly.
Furthermore, the sound is beautiful, so it is wonderful. I mentioned “capacity” earlier, but this doesn’t mean just a blurry sound. The vibes that make up the chord are very detailed, and they are surrounded by a three-dimensional effect that seems to fall from the heavens. It has the majesty of a pipe organ of an association. Perhaps the sound creation in the field is aiming for such an effect, but this work has a clear and crisp sound with such an illusion and the division of roles of the melody.
The sound drawn is a full show that is a bit different from the official live work “Hikari: PERFECT LIVE!”. Let’s organize by comparing here.

● Part 1 (DISC 1:11 songs)
・ Flame: Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts I-V)
・ Depression: Signs of Life (★) / Learning to Fly / Yet Another Movie / Round and Around / A New Machine (Part 1) (★) / Terminal Frost (★) / A New Machine (Part 2) (★) / Sorrow / The Dogs of War / On the Turning Away
● Part 2 (DISC 2: 9 songs)
・ Nosy: One of These Days
・ Madness: Time / On the Run (★) / Us and Them / Money
・ Flame: Wish You Were Here / Welcome to the Machine (★)
・ The Wall: Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2) / Comfortably Numb
● Angkor (DISC 2: 2 songs)
・ Depression: One Slip (★)
・ The Wall: Run Like Hell
* Note: “★” marks are songs that cannot be heard on the official board “Hikari: PERFECT LIVE!”.

… And it looks like this. Roughly speaking, it is the same as “1ST NIGHT (Amity 629)” two days ago, and you can enjoy a full show that is more than 30 minutes longer than “Hikari: PERFECT LIVE!”. In this work, only “One of These Days” at the beginning of the second part digs into the end of DISC 1, but it is roughly composed of two parts, “DISC 1 = 1st part” and “DISC 2 = 2nd part + Angkor”. It has become.
Even so, it’s dynamic. It’s easy to think that the less the audience recording sounds, the better, but that’s not always the case. In the first place, just like the official work, the sound board sound is purposely finished with an effector, and the good sound of the ballast brings out the spectacle and symphonic pouring feeling of the large venue, and makes it thick and glossy. Audience recording is achieved by the natural element of the reverberation of the venue, rather than creating the umami of such a sound with effects. In reality, it is impossible unless the sound output side creates delicate sounds, but the leading role of this work is PINK FLOYD, which is not anyone else. It is also one that you can fully enjoy the “delicious sound” because it is one of the best acoustic groups in the scene.
The huge light show was a hot topic in “A MOMENTARY LAPSE OF REASON Tour”, but it was also a big spectacle in terms of sound. This work is proof of such a sound, and it is also a live album that lets you taste it with an exquisite on-site feeling. Please take this opportunity to take your time.

★ Excellent audience recording of “October 7, 1987 New York performance”. While the rhythm section and synths fill the large venue with softness and capacity, the guitar and vocals that penetrate the center of the venue are crisp and vivid. The brightness and details are also focused on Gilmour, the guitar is beautiful not only in the melody but also in the picking, and the vocals can hear the lyrics properly. It is a crisp sound with a clear sense of fantasy and the division of roles of the melody. You can experience the huge spectacle A MOMENTARY LAPSE OF REASON Tour with dynamic sound.

Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts I-V)
Signs of Life(★)/Learning to Fly/Yet Another Movie/Round and Around/A New Machine (Part 1)(★)/Terminal Frost(★)/A New Machine (Part 2)(★)/Sorrow/The Dogs of War/On the Turning Away
One of These Days
Time/On the Run(★)/Us and Them/Money
Wish You Were Here/Welcome to the Machine(★)
Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)/Comfortably Numb
One Slip(★)
Run Like Hell

“A MOMENTARY LAPSE OF REASON Tour”
