The analog bootleg LP “KNOBS” made fans all over the world aware of the first day of five consecutive Wembley performances in March 1977. As you know, this analog board appeared from THE IMPOSSIBLE RECORDWORKS as a set of two black and white monotone jackets “KNOBS (IMP 2-15)” in 1979, and in the early 1980s it was more colorful than the US TOASTED RECORDS as its reissue. “KNOBS (2S 907)”, a set of two deluxe full-color jackets, is now available. To tell the truth, in terms of the speed of release, “GIANT BARN DANCE (PF3077 A / B)” and its sister board “30KW PA (PF3077 C / D)” were released here in Japan in 1977, so it is a latecomer. However, in the analog board containing Wembley in 1977, many sound source fans think of “KNOBS” LP. Although the jackets are different, both “KNOBS” LPs have exactly the same contents, but unfortunately the master LPs are currently rarely seen or listened to. Therefore, we have prepared a complete disc transferred from the original “KNOBS” master so that you can try out this nostalgic analog disc sound.
By the way, this “KNOBS” LP uses the same Recorder 1 as the newly excavated tape source used for discs 1 and 2 of Sigma “WEMBLEY 1977 1st NIGHT”, but even with the same source, another route from the Omoto master is used. Since it is a source of different genes, we can see some differences. Especially in terms of sound quality, there is a big difference in individuality, and although the low gene tape excavated in recent years naturally has a higher rank in terms of clarity and master direct feeling, “KNOBS” LP lacks that clarity a little. On the other hand, it has a direct hit feeling of dense sound, and you can fully enjoy the massive sound attack that Floyd at that time emitted. In particular, the depth of volume that is remarkable in the mid to low range is quite good even if you listen to it with a modern acoustic sense, and the euphoric sound that makes you feel like it is unique to this KNOBS source.
Also, the “flame” set, which was actually the second half of the show, is on the A and B sides (= this work disc 1), and the “animals” set, which was actually the first half of the show, is on the C and D sides (=). The remnants of the analog bootleg at that time, such as those recorded on this work disc 2), are left as they are, and “Us And Them”, which was recorded as the second song on side D on disc 2- (6), is also as it is It is recorded. As you know, this “Us And Them” is another source that is said to be the performance on March 19, 1977 (* the 4th performance of all 5 performances of Wembley), but in the actual performance on the 19th, “Us” Since “And Them” was not performed, it is unknown exactly which year and date it was performed. This seems to be a trace of trying to make effective use of the recording time frame left on the D side of the board during LP production, but this 1977 Wembley 6DAYS encore song is “Money” or “Us And Them” depending on the day. (* The first two days were “Money” and the second half “Us And Them” was entered, but it seems that there were days when the encore was not performed), so the show’s complete feeling It may have been additionally recorded in order to release.
On the other hand, there were new discoveries by comparing with the newly excavated tape source. For example, the applause after the performance of “Dogs” and “Pigs On The Wing part 2” that can be heard on this “KNOBS” LP turns out to be a fake patched from another sound source, and “Shine” is included in the “KNOBS” source. From the end of “On You … 6-9” to the start of “Money”, there is an audience scene of about 20 seconds and a register sound that do not exist in the new tape source. Can be seen many times. After all, with the introduction of this new tape source, Recorder 1 has just begun its comparative verification. It becomes clearer as you listen to it compared to this nostalgic classic LP
This is a special gift item for this week that we have prepared with that in mind.
