June 5, 1971, Berlin. The recording of this day, which is the second day of the European tour that started on the 4th of the previous day, was recorded in the 1980s by the 3-disc LP “BERLIN 1971 (no label)” and the 2-disc CD “Mauerspechte (Oh Boy 2-9021)”. Its existence has been known since the latter half of the year. However, I think that the dramatic upper source that rewrites the history of the sound source appeared in 2007 only in the Sirene label “DOWNFALL (Sirene-204)”, which left a number of masterpieces in the progressive rock title. Although the generation is unknown, a high-quality sound source that is quite close to the master tape is adopted, and the advantage that the MC before the performance of “Echoes” and the beginning part of “Cymbaline” that were missing in the above two titles are included. At that time, the listening response wrapped in the high sense of satisfaction became a big topic.

Of course, it was sold out immediately after its release and was out of print until now, but in September of this year, the 1st gen source of this suddenly appeared on the net and attracted hot attention for the first time in a while. This 1st gen source, which was transferred directly from the master recording to two TDK SA90 tapes, has realized the latest digital transfer with quality comparable to that Sirene board, and has been touring in European countries from the day before. The energetic performance that had just resumed was revived with a new breath. Moreover, the scene before the performance, which was unknown until now, was included for about 30 seconds, and it was a bonus that it appeared as the longest version ever.

While it was a good upload, this 1st gen source clearly contained a scene with a fast pitch, so I’ve rigorously fixed this when it came to vinyl. In addition, the sound eventually reached the next level range that exceeds the public source by removing noise that was not cut off at the time of online release and steadily raising the level to adjust the phase that was slightly out of sync, this work. Is a set of two latest press discs that contain the final sound that has been scrutinized by the specialized label Sigma !!

The impact appeared from the beginning of Disc 1. Here, as track (1), the state before the performance in the hall is recorded for about 2 minutes, but in fact, in this scene Sirene board “DOWNFALL”, it was recorded from the middle of the source by fade-in.
However, this time it is a complete recording that can be heard from 30 seconds or more before the disc start point of “DOWNFALL”, and the upper feeling and advantage of the source used are clearly shown immediately after pressing the play button. “Careful With That Ax, Eugene” also has a beautiful sound vision that deeply inhales the sound output, and you will be surprised at the sound that can grasp the details while being a sound image that gives a bird’s-eye view of the entire performance. Since the pitch of this song was obviously fast when it was released on the net, it was recorded after correcting it correctly in this work, but at the same time, the song stands straight in the center by making adjustments and phase correction to improve the sound omission. , It has regained a much more responsive appearance than the public source. In “Fat Old Sun”, the contrast between the floating feeling of the song and the dynamic attack feeling that is exhibited in the middle stage is particularly dazzling, and I think that the visual and pictorial sound image is amazing. The development part of the organ starting from 7:20 is also more and more exquisite as the tough sounds of other instruments gradually overlap with the mellow tone, and the verse returns again at the end (* 12: From 21 to), the sound of the scene will awaken the timeless impression, and you will naturally want to applaud like the audience who is experiencing it here.
