このコンサートはプレスDVDの決定版映像『HYDE PARK 1970』もありますが、それは40分ほどの部分収録でした。それ以外にはオーディエンス録音「RECORDER 1」「RECORDER 2」の２種が確認されており、本作はその２種の極上マスターをディスク１枚ずつに配した２枚組なのです。これらの録音は以前から知られているものですが、本作のマスターは「これ以上のクオリティはあり得ない」という決定的なもの。順を追ってご紹介していきましょう。
まず、大前提として「RECORDER 1」「RECORDER 2」は、どちらも不完全収録です。「RECORDER 1」は約39分の録音で「Atom Heart Mother」がない。一方の「RECORDER 2」は約50分で冒頭の「Blues」「The Embryo」が欠けています。この２種はトレード間で流通しており、既発群は、それらを組合わせて疑似の全長アルバムに仕立てていました。有名なところで言うと、GODFATHERレーベルの『ATOM HYDE PARK（G.R. 320）』や、当店のボーナスCDR『HYDE PARK 1970 AUDIENCE RECORDING』です。それに対し、本作は編集一切なしで「RECORDER 1」「RECORDER 2」それぞれのベストバージョンを収録したものなのです。
ここからが肝心。
本作の「RECORDER 1・2」は、共に至上・至高を追求したものですが、特に凄いのが「RECORDER 2」。今回、なんと大元となるオリジナル・マスターの所有者と接触することができ、今までどこにも出回っていなかった大元マスターからダイレクトにデジタル化することに成功したのです。従来の「RECORDER 2」も元を質せば、この人物に行き着くわけですが、当時彼が公開したのはMDにダビングしたもので、それ以降誰にも聴かせていなかったそう。つまり、現在に至るまで全世界に流通しているのは、MDの圧縮音声を経たものだけでした。しかし、今回はマスターリールから直接DATへ（当然ロスレスで）デジタル化。本作は、それをCDに封じ込めたものなのです。これまでに２回しか外部の人間が触れたことのない音（初回はMDへ、２回は今回）ですから、貴重な機会を最大限に活かすべく、デジタル化の工程にもこだわり、準備できる最高級のハイエンドの機材を駆使。今まで、いかなるPINK FLOYDのコアマニア／研究家と言えども、誰ひとり聴いたことのなかった“マスター・サウンド”を世に送り出すことになったのです！
そのサウンドたるや、まさに絶品のヴィンテージ。「RECORDER 2」と言えば、従来の圧縮音声バージョンですら“70年代でも屈指の至近サウンド”・“演奏の機微まで鮮明”と言われてきた名録音。そのマスター・サウンドなのですから、まるで昨日録ったかのような鮮度でハイドパークにたゆたっていた大気を吐き出してくれるのです。野外とは思えないほど図太い楽音が幻想的に轟きながら、それでいて何ともリアルなサウンド。当時の楽器、機材の感触はたっぷりとありながら、“46年”の時間を飛び越えてきたとは信じられないほどにフレッシュなのです。ただ、マスター所有者からもたらされた原音はマスターリールの音をそのまま移し替えただけでしたので（わずかではあるものの）ピッチにヨレもあった。本作ではリール原音の“鳴り”を最大限活かしつつも、ピッチと音圧だけは整え、現代の音響機器に合わせたバランスに仕上げました。
紹介の順番が逆になってしまいましたが、ディスク１に収められている「RECORDER 1」もただ者ではありません。録音自体は既発『ATOM HYDE PARK』と同じではありますが、これも「RECORDER 2」と同じ人物からもたらされたもの。“YEESHKUL”経由で初公開されたオリジナル・バージョンから、「RECORDER 2」と同様のマスタリングで最上級を極めました。こちらは「RECORDER 2」に比べると低音が薄めで、バッキングも控えめ。その代わり、中高音のエッジがクッキリとしていて、何よりヴォーカルが鮮やかな録音です。正直なところ、現場に吹きすさぶ風の音も拾ってはいますが、それもまた歴史のスペクタクル感、46年という時間のリアリティを醸している。デジタル・マスタリングでこうした特性を調整することも可能でしたが、それでは原音の味わいを損ないかねない。本作では、「RECORDER 2」と同様に音圧・ピッチの調整だけに止め、マスターのリアリズムを正確に再現いたしました。

全世界初公開となる大元リール・サウンド版「RECORDER 2」、発掘当時のサウンドを最高級に磨いた「RECORDER 1」。どちらも“これ以上はあり得ない”ベスト・クオリティで46年前のハイドパークへ連れて行ってくれる大傑作です。“衝撃作”『COMPLETE APHRODITE 1971』に続き、70年初頭のPINK FLOYDの“リアル”に出逢える１本。今週末、あなたのお手元へお届けいたします。
