1982年10月1日、日本の大手メーカーより世界初となるCDプレーヤーが発売されるのにあわせ、世界初となる音楽CDもロック・ポップス、クラシックを中心に約数十タイトルが同日発売されました。これらのCDの中で最初に発売されたのはBilly Joelのアルバム「52nd Street/ニューヨーク52番街」 (カタログナンバー35DP 1)で、邦楽では皆さんご存じ某ナイアガラ師匠の「A LONG VACATION」 (35DH 1)とされています。値段は洋楽邦楽は3500円でした。なお、ヨーロッパではABBAのアルバム「The Visitors」が西ドイツで同年8月から生産自体は開始されていたようで、そちらを世界初のCDとする意見もあるようです。

さて、今回特別限定のギフト盤としてリリースされるのは、その世界で初めて発売された数十タイトルのCDのうちの1タイトルであるPINK FLOYD・1975年リリースのアルバム「WISH YOU WERE HERE/炎(あなたがここにいてほしい)」の日本初(かつ世界初)CD (カタログナンバー35DP 4)の復刻盤です。今回のギフト盤のジャケにもあしらわれていますが、「青いキャップ帯」とゴールド盤が大きな特徴で、1stプレスは生産期間も短く1985年にはマスタリングも異なる2ndプレス「赤いキャップ帯」のカタログナンバー「32DP 359」バージョンに切り替わるため、この青いキャップ帯でしかもゴールド盤(オリジナル1stもすぐに通常の銀盤に切り替わったようです)となると中古市場にも滅多に現れない幻のアイテムとなり、現在オークションでは4～5万円で取引されるほどの激レア・タイトルとなっております。

気になる中身の音についてですが、当然日本独自のマスタリングで、当時LPに使用されたマスターをそのまま流用しているようで、そのためなのか本来LPではA面B面だった2トラックにしかトラック分けされてないのが驚きで、その代わり各楽曲にインデックスがプログラムされているのが特徴です。インデックスとはフロイドですとアルバム「原子心母」(カタログナンバーCP32まで)に同曲の副題に合わせてプログラムされていた今は廃れた懐かしい機能です(よね？)。CD黎明期と言うこともありますが、現行のリマスター盤とは音作りは大きく異なり、音量はかなり控え目に抑えられており、コンプレッサーやリミッターで音圧を上げる処理が一切施されていないであろうことが一聴して分かります。またリリースされた1982年というと、オリジナルリリースからまだ7年しか経過していない(これも驚きと同時に感慨深い！）時点でデジタル化されたため、マスターの劣化も殆どない好条件でのCD化もポイントとなるでしょう(もっとも、デジタル技術そのものは現在の方がアップしているのでしょうね)。先述の通り2トラックにしか分かれていなかったトラックは通常通り5トラックにディバイドしましたが、それ以外は音量も含め一切の処理を施さずにそのまま復刻。もちろん現行CDがあればそれで十分と思われる方もおられるでしょうが、伝説のPINK FLOYD初CDプレミア・アイテムを気軽に聞けるギフト・アイテムとして「Rarities」リリース記念に贈る超限定アイテムです。
