2014年2月にリリースした13枚目のソロアルバム「ザ・ロイアル・セッションズ」に伴うショウとして特別に企画された、ロンドン・ロイヤル・アルバート・ホールでのライヴを極上レベルの超高音質オーディエンス録音で完全収録。公演日は11月3日。ロンドンを中心に数多くの良質な録音を提供し続けてくれるお馴染みのテーパーによるオリジナルマスターをダイレクトに使用。ロイヤル・アルバート・ホールであることが信じられない程に、ダイレクト感に満ち溢れた素晴らしいサウンドで、このワン・アンド・オンリーのショウを堪能できます。オーティス・レディング、アルバート・キング、アイザック・ヘイズらの楽曲をカヴァーしたアルバム「ザ・ロイアル・セッションズ」は、テネシー州メンフィスの ザ・ロイアル・スタジオにて録音されています。ライヴはアルバムのプロデュースを務めたペリー・マーゴレフの挨拶からスタート。そのまま演奏をバックに今晩のバンド演奏者を一人一人紹介、3分弱のファンキーなインストを聴かせながら、そこでポールが登場、ショウがスタートすると言った構成。当然ことながら、通常の自身のベストヒット・ライヴでは聴けないナンバーばかりなので、非常に新鮮に聴き入ることが出来ます。そこから「ザ・ロイアル・セッションズ」のナンバーを中心に、ソウルフルなライヴが展開されます。ソウルフルな演奏を聴かせるバックのアンサンブルとの相性もバッチリで、ワンタイムなコンサートと思えない位に充実のパフォーマンスが次々と繰り広げられていきます。後半のBorn Under A Bad Sign、The Hunter、Can’t Get Enough、更にはアンコールラストのStormy Monday ではペリー・マーゴレフが登場、各曲でリードギターを披露します。Walk On Byでストリングも加わります。大所帯のバンドをバックにしての演奏で会場特有のエコー感はありますが、音が濁ることなく、非常に聴きやすい音で録れています。衰えを感じさせない、存在感抜群のボーカルは聴き応え満点。滅多に聴くことのできない、スペシャルなライヴを完璧な音で楽しめるファン必聴・必携の一枚です。
