Popular series! Introducing the strongest reinforcement board of the very popular “Ram”! ◉ Album commentary
RAM was announced in 1971. Recorded No. 1 in the UK for 2 weeks and No. 2 in the US. Released with joint credits by Paul McCartney and Linda McCartney. In the previous work, McCartney played all the instruments, but in this work, many outside musicians also participate. In October 1970, McCartney and Linda moved to New York. Therefore, it was decided to start the production of this work. And first, he started auditioning for external musicians [2]. At this audition, session guitarists David Spinozza and Hugh McCracken [3] [4], and drummer Denny Seiwell, who later became the first member of the band “Wings” led by McCartney, were appointed. Recording began at CBS Studios in New York from the beginning of the same month. [5] Most of the recording is done in this studio, and from February 1971, the songs will be overdubbed at the A & R studio in New York. Here, the performance of the orchestra by the New York Philharmonic was overdubbed. Then, in March of the following month, the final overdubbing and mixing were performed at the studio “Sound Recorders Studio” in Los Angeles, and the recording of this work was completed. Linda is in charge of the chorus throughout, and she has duet with McCartney on several songs. In the UK, it was number one for two weeks in a row, and in the US “Billboard” magazine, it was the highest number two, but it became a long seller ranked in the top ten for 24 weeks. 38th in the 1971 annual ranking. In “Cashbox” magazine, it also won the highest second place and recorded the ninth place in the 1971 annual ranking. In the United States, it has sold more than 1 million copies. Each single is cut to match the characteristics of each country. The classic album “Thrillington”, which was later released under the name of Paul’s renamed project “Percy” Thrillington “Thrillington”, is a cover album of this work by orchestra performance.

◉アルバム解説
RAMは1971年に発表された。全英で2週1位、全米2位を記録。ポール・マッカートニーとリンダ・マッカートニーの共同クレジットによりリリースされた。前作は、マッカートニーが全ての楽器を演奏するという形であったが、本作では外部のミュージシャンも多く参加している。1970年10月、マッカートニーとリンダはニューヨークへ移動。そこで、本作の制作を開始することとなった。そして、最初に外部ミュージシャンのオーディションを開始[2]。そして、このオーディションでセッション・ギタリストのデヴィッド・スピノザとヒュー・マクラッケン[3][4]、後にマッカートニー率いるバンド『ウイングス』の第1期メンバーとなるドラマーのデニー・シーウェルが起用された。レコーディングは 同月の初め頃よりニューヨークのCBSスタジオで開始[5]。レコーディングは大半このスタジオで済み、1971年の2月よりニューヨークのA&Rスタジオで楽曲にオーバーダビング等が施される。ここで、ニューヨーク・フィルハーモニックによるオーケストラの演奏がオーバーダビングされた。そして、翌月の3月にロサンゼルスのスタジオ「サウンド・レコーダーズ・スタジオ」にて最終的なオーバーダビングやミキシングを施し、本作のレコーディングは終了した。リンダは全編に渡りコーラスを担当し、数曲でマッカートニーとデュエットしている。イギリスでは、2週連続第1位、アメリカの「ビルボード」誌では、最高第2位を獲得しているが、トップ10内に24週間もランクされるロング・セラーとなった。1971年度年間ランキングでは第38位。「キャッシュボックス」誌でも、最高第2位を獲得し、1971年度年間ランキングでは第9位を記録している。アメリカでは100万枚以上のセールスも達成した。各国の特色に合わせるように、それぞれのシングルがカットされている。後にポールによる変名プロジェクト『パーシー“スリルズ”スリリントン』名義でリリースされたクラシック・アルバム『スリリントン』は、オーケストラ演奏による本作のカバー・アルバムである。
