今週のポールの大傑作ライヴ盤「TOKYO 1993 SECOND NIGHT」リリースにぴったりのギフトタイトルをご紹介いたします。「The New World Tour」と銘打たれた1993年ツアーより、11月の日本公演の手前、9月~10月にかけて行われたヨーロッパ・ツアーより、2日連続で行われたノルウェーはオスロ公演初日・9月27日のステージを非常に良好な極上レベルの高音質オーディエンス録音で2時間8分に渡って完全収録したファン必携の2枚組です。このオスロ公演音源の特徴は、何と言っても音質の良さ!適度な距離感は感じさせるものの、音像はくっきりしっかりクリアーでオン、定位良好に捉えられており、既に20年以上が経過している2014年現代の耳で聴いても、十分に「聴ける」音源です。加えて幸いにもレコーダー回りに煩い観客がいないので、気持ち良く、演奏に集中して長時間聴き入ることができます。過去に同音源でかなりイコライズ感過剰なテイクが出回っていましたが、本盤はマスターそのもののマイルドでナチュラル、今風に言えばウォーミーかつ自然なサウンドで、この抜群の録音を楽しむことができます。アナログ特有のヒスノイズもあり、前述の通り、20年以上前のオーディエンス録音ゆえ、抜群の分離感と言うわけにはいかないですが、程良い空気感と妙にバランスの良い音像は、多くのファンを満足させてくれることでしょう。本ツアーの特徴である、中盤のアコースティック・セットも良い感じの音像で捉えられており聴き応え抜群。アコースティックセットの締めとしてYesterdayがショウの中盤で演奏されるというのもこのツアーの特徴で、今聴くとなかなか新鮮に感じます。今ではツアーお馴染みのPaperback WriterやMagical Mystery Tourもこのツアーがライヴ・レビューで、後半を大いに盛り上げます。ラストのHey Judeの臨場感溢れる盛り上がりは鳥肌モノ。1993年ヨーロッパ・ツアーを代表する高音質音源をマスター・クオリティでたっぷりとお楽しみ下さい。
