カーマインがオジー・バンドに在籍したのは、“Bark At The Moon”ツアーの初期、1983年11月から1984年３月の約５ヶ月間。結局、何ひとつオフィシャルで残さず、プロ収録はドルトムントのROCK POP FESTIVAL 1983の数曲のみ。その真価を伝えるのは、わずかなオーディエンス録音だけで、ほとんど知られていないのが実情です。
しかし！　そのオーディエンス録音が凄い。凄すぎる。トミー・アルドリッジは、メタリックでシャープなドラミングでしたが、カーマインはスケール感のデカい！　同じようにパワーヒッターと言われるものの、手数足数も連打に走らず、パーカッシヴに変幻自在。もう１曲目の「I Don’t Know」の入りから、まるで違う。ちょっとしたフィル、シンバルワークだけでもググッと曲が引き立つのに、それをキメにキメまくる。歌メロやギターリフに合わせ、語るように曲をもり立てるフレーズの数々。80年代HR/HMでこれができるのは、カーマインとコージー・パウエル、サイモン・フィリップスだけではないでしょうか。「Rock ‘N’ Roll Rebel」では小粋な合いの手を挟みまくり、「Centre Of Eternity」では重戦車のように突き進むドラミング。そこに、ボブの歌うラインやドンの壮大さが加わるのですから、その音世界はひたすらドラマティック！　こんなに荘厳な「Revelation (Mother Earth)」は聴いたことがない……。ギタリストと同じようにさまざまなドラマーと共演してきたオジーですが、さすがさすがの別格です。

そんな超スーパー・メンバーのライヴがたっぷり楽しい本作ですが、凄いのは演奏だけではありません。なにしろ、本作を記録したテーパーは、名手Crazy S.氏なのですから！　以前、PO R GATEレーベルから「SOUND OF ETERNITY」としてリリースされたこともありましたが、オリジナル・カセットから改めて現代技術での再デジタル化。発掘当時から傑作録音と大評判でしたが、さらに耳の肥えた現代の感覚にもぴったりの迫力サウンドに仕上げました。
Crazy S.氏は、何度もこのツアーを観ており、ほかにもニューキャッスル公演「REBEL BARKS（Shades 028）」や今週のギフト・タイトルとなったシェフィールド公演「BARK AT SHEFFIELD」があります。本作は、そんなCrazy S.コレクションの中でもピカイチの「11月10日レスター公演」。サウンドもさることながら、主役オジーが絶好調！　ハイ・ノートも良く伸び、いつもはひっくり返る「Crazy Train」も見事に歌いきる。いつもハラハラさせる「あのオジー」と同じ人とは思えないほどです。
ほかタイトルでは聴けない貴重トラックもばっちり。まず、スタートのS.E.からしてびっくり。オジーのショウと言えば、「Diary Of A Madman」や「Carmina Burana」がお馴染みですが、この日は鐘の音から始まります。思わず、「まさか、Black Sabbath!?」と早合点したところで、実は「Centre Of Eternity」のイントロ・コーラスが聞こえてくる。翌週ライヴを収めた「BARK AT SHEFFIELD」では「Carmina Burana」ですし、ちょうど切り替えの時期だったのか、それとも単にこの日は「Carmina Burana」のテープを無くしでもしたのか……（なんとなくこっちのような）。ともかく、この日以外ではちょっと覚えがない演出です。さらに注目は、新曲「So Tired」。この後、すぐセット落ちしてしまうレアなバラードですが、この日は見事に歌いこなすが味わえるのです。

オフィシャル映像を世界最高クオリティで蘇らせたプレスDVD「BARK AT THE MOON」。当たり前の話ですが、アンダーグラウンド音源を丸っきり知らない方でも、ぶっ飛ばされるスーパー映像です。そんな万人向けタイトルのボーナスだからこそ、「客席録音もイイもんでしょう？」「オジー＆カーマインって凄かったんだぜ！」とこっそり教えたい。そんな気持ちを込め、このボーナスCDRを贈ります。持っているだけで安心しないで、忘れずに聴いてくださいね！
