The early Floyd reprint project SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS, which has entered the climax of the world tour for the first time in three years. Two live albums that convey the latest stage will be released at the same time.
This work is the first of two simultaneous releases. It is a superb audience recording of “October 14, 2022 Indianapolis Performance”. They have toured in 2018/2019/2022 and played Indianapolis three years ago. At our shop, we have also delivered a sound report as “INDIANAPOLIS 2019 (Amity 544)”. The ability to analyze activities from various perspectives, such as the same city or the same year, is a unique way of enjoying audience recordings, which have a lot of materials. Here, let’s once again look back on the overall picture of their activities and take a bird’s eye view of their positional relationship with the same urban area.

This is the full view of the activities of NICK MASON’S SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS that have been announced to date. Although my home country England and continental Europe have been finely toured, there are only two North American tours across the ocean. The Indianapolis performance of this work is the 17th performance live album that will be the first report of such “North America # 2”. In “North America # 1” three years ago, the best recording was born from almost all performances, but after that the rigid live album “LIVE AT THE ROUNDHOUSE” was born. Perhaps because of that, this year’s “North America #2” was not as good as it was three years ago, and fixed-point observations in the same city (for now) are possible only with “INDIANAPOLIS 2019” and this work. .
In any case, this work, which is a vacuum-packed version of such a show, has a beautiful dynamic sound with a neat and thick sound. The extremely thick core is powerful all the way, and there is no sense of distance at all. Yet, even though it is powerful, the sense of stability that does not freak out is outstanding, and while the thick ringing creates a sense of weight and dynamism, there is no cloudiness or bleeding in the details.
It has a sweet edge, so I’m at a loss when asked, “Are you No. 1 on the tour?” In the first place, PINK FLOYD fans have a sharp sense of sound, and it can be said that the recording is the highest peak in the rock world. Because it is the top class of the too high standard, it may be the best and natural.
The rich and dynamic sound depicted is the latest form of early FLOYD music that has evolved independently over the past three years. Since there are also recordings in the same city, let’s organize the set while comparing it with “INDIANAPOLIS 2019”.

In any case, the world of the finest audience tends to aim for “just like a sound board”, but the more you get into it, the more you love the beauty and uniqueness of each work because it is an audience recording. Even so, this work is a new masterpiece that colors the early Floyd masterpieces with dynamism and luster.
Because it is a live performance, it is full of the real pleasure of a once-in-a-lifetime chance, and because it is psychedelic early FLOYD music, the individuality of the sound completely changes the expression. これが現在までに公表されているNICK MASON’S SAUCERFUL OF SECRETSの活動全景。母国イギリスや大陸ヨーロッパは細かく巡っていますが、大洋を渡った北米ツアーは２回のみ。本作のインディアナポリス公演は、そんな「北米#2」の第一報となる17公演目のライヴアルバムです。３年前の「北米#1」ではほとんど全公演から極上録音が誕生したのですが、その後に硬式ライヴアルバム『LIVE AT THE ROUNDHOUSE』が誕生。その影響なのか、今回の「北米#2」は３年前ほどの大豊作とはなっておらず、同都市での定点観測は（今のところ）『INDIANAPOLIS 2019』と本作だけで可能です。
ともあれ、そんなショウを真空パックした本作は、端正で厚みのある鳴りが美しいダイナミック・サウンド。極太の芯がどこまでも力強く、距離感もまったくなし。それでいてパワフルであってもビビらない安定感がズバ抜けており、ぶ厚い鳴りが重量感とダイナミズムを生み出しつつ、ディテールには些かの曇りも滲みもありません。
エッジに甘みもあるので「ツアーNo.1か？」と問われると迷いますが、そんじょそこらのオーディエンス録音とは次元が違うのも確か。そもそもPINK FLOYDファンは音響に対するセンスが鋭く、その録音もロック界の最高峰と言っても良い。その高すぎる基準のトップクラスなのですから、極上で当たり前なのかも知れません。
