NICK MASON’S SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS is an early PINK FLOYD reprint project that made an impact in the spring of 2018 and completed a series of activities. The latest live album that tells the final performance is here.
The final day is “July 27, 2019 Warsaw Performance”. This is the finest audience recording at the Polish music festival “SUMMER FOG FESTIVAL”. Various summer festivals are held in Europe in summer, but the theme of “SUMMER FOG FESTIVAL” is prosperous. Progressive bands such as SOFT MACHINE, David Cross & David Jackson, Spanish progressive band AMAROK, and local band BELIEVE participated together, and the main act was SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS. Also, as mentioned earlier, this show was their tour Chiaki Raku. In our store, we deliver a number of masterpiece live albums from the final European leg, and this week also released a masterpiece video work “TAORMINA 2019”. First of all, let’s organize a series of works by schedule.

This is a summary of the European tour that will end 2019. No further activity has been announced, and no future trends are known. In other words, the Warsaw performance of this work is (at the moment) the final destination of SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS. This work that recorded such a final performance is a superb live album suitable for the beauty of the end. Several recordings have been discovered from this show, but this work is the highest peak shining at the top (with an overwhelming difference) … or the best name recording in the last European leg.
If you explain by the classification of “clear type”, “dynamic type”, “mood type” by example, will it be “infinitely dynamic clear type”? I breathe in a slight hall sound, but it is a level that I notice when I listen to it with headphones, the core that penetrates the clear air feeling is on and powerful, and the details are super clear. However, it is much better than the “clear type” standard. While it sounds like the PA output sound itself, it has a solid midrange response, and the deep bass is a powerful balance between vigor and vibe. Although it can be called a “sound board”, it is like an official work, not an IEMs or direct console system. In other words, it is intermediate between “clear type” and “dynamic type”, and it balances the advantages of both. Although it cannot be said that it is the highest peak because it has sent out many super masterpieces so far, it is one of the superb that would have been immediately sent to the press factory.
And the show drawn with that sound is also wonderful. To be honest, I was surprised that Nick Mason, who was 75 years old, completed a large-scale world tour, but I was shocked that one performance was one performance. Even in this work of Chiaki Raku, there is almost no tiredness of the tour, the groove is flexible, the power of one stroke, the dynamism with various phrases does not cloud or fade. When it comes to the latest veteran tours, it’s not uncommon to see young people pulling with energy, but Nick is just the opposite. His own enthusiasm has motivated other members and infused the initial FLOYD numbers.
And what is unique about the last day is the goodness. Even though there was a schedule that could be afforded before, this work is dazzling because it doesn’t care about tomorrow’s condition or worry about moving. SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS has upgraded the sound world of the early FLOYD with a modern sound, but this work seems to have been further blown into the ensemble. The snare and sharpness of the previous dwells in a single snare.

No way to meet such a performance and recording at the very end. Will they go on a tour next year, leave some work, or will they disappear? I don’t know yet. However, SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS is shocking from the moment of appearance, and there is no doubt that the early FLOYD numbers have evolved richly and powerful enough to go around the world. This work is their final goal. The final chapter of the real-time report that has been accompanied by SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS for one year and two months. Please chew this work with the feeling of all feelings.

2018年春に衝撃の登場を果たし、一連の活動を終えた初期PINK FLOYD復刻プロジェクトNICK MASON’S SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS。その最終公演を伝える最新ライヴアルバムが登場です。
その最終日とは「2019年７月27日ワルシャワ公演」。ポーランドの音楽祭“SUMMER FOG FESTIVAL”に出演した際の極上オーディエンス録音です。夏のヨーロッパには様々なフェスが開かれますが、“SUMMER FOG FESTIVAL”のテーマはずばりプログレ。SOFT MACHINEやデヴィッド・クロス＆デヴィッド・ジャクソン、スペインのプログレバンドAMAROK、地元バンドのBELIEVEといったプログレ系バンドが大挙して参加し、そのメインアクトがSAUCERFUL OF SECRETSでした。また、先述の通りこのショウは彼らのツアー千秋楽でもあった。当店では、最終の欧州レッグからも幾多の傑作ライヴアルバムをお届けしており、今週は傑作映像作品『TAORMINA 2019』もリリース。まずは、日程で一連の作品群を整理しておきましょう。

これが2019年を締めくくる欧州ツアーの概要。これ以降の活動は発表されておらず、今後の動向は一切不明。つまり、本作のワルシャワ公演は（現時点で）SAUCERFUL OF SECRETSの最終到達点でもあるわけです。そんな最終公演を記録した本作は、有終の美に相応しい極上のライヴアルバム。このショウからは幾つかの録音が発見されていますが、本作は（圧倒的な大差で）頂点に輝く最高峰……と言いますか、最後の欧州レッグでもベストな名録音なのです。
例によって「クリア・タイプ」「ダイナミック・タイプ」「ムード・タイプ」の分類でご説明しますと、「限りなくダイナミックなクリア・タイプ」とい事になるでしょうか。ほんのりとしたホール鳴りも吸い込んでいますが、それさえヘッドフォンで耳を澄ますと気づくレベルであり、そのクリアな空気感を貫く芯はオンで力強く、ディテールも超克明。ただし、「クリア・タイプ」の標準よりはずっと芳醇。ＰＡ出力音そのもののようにも聞こえつつ、それにしては中音域の手応えがずっしりとしていて、重低音も迫力とヴァイヴを見事に両立している。「まるでサウンドボード」と呼べるタイプではあるものの、それはIEMs系や卓直結系ではなくオフィシャル作品風。つまり「クリア・タイプ」と「ダイナミック・タイプ」の中間であり、両者の長所を美しく両立している。これまでも幾多の超傑作を送り出してきただけに軽々に最高峰とは言えないものの、普通であれば即プレス工場送りとなったであろう超極上の１本なのです。
そして、そのサウンドで描かれるショウがまた素晴らしい。正直なところ、75歳を迎えたニック・メイスンが大規模なワールド・ツアーを完遂しただけで驚きでしたが、１公演１公演が熱演だったことが衝撃。千秋楽の本作でもツアー疲れをほとんど感じさせず、グルーヴは柔軟ですし、一打一打のパワー、多彩なフレーズによるダイナミズムは曇りも衰えもない。大ベテランの最新ツアーと言うと、若手のエネルギーで引っぱってもらうようなショウも珍しくないのですが、ニックはまるで逆。彼自身の熱演が他メンバーのやる気を掻き立て、初期FLOYDナンバーの数々に精気を注入しているのです。
そして、最終日ならではなのが思い切りの良さ。これまでも余裕のある日程が組まれていたとは言え、本作は明日の調子も移動の心配も気にしない勢いが眩しい。SAUCERFUL OF SECRETSは現代的なサウンドで初期FLOYDの音世界をアップグレードしてきたわけですが、本作はさらにアンサンブルにまで新風が吹き込まれたよう。スネア一発一発にまで前のめりなノリとキレが宿っているのです。

まさか、最後の最後でこれほどの演奏と録音に出逢えようとは。彼らが来年もツアーを行ってくれるのか、あるいは何かしらの作品を残してくれるのか、それともこのまま消え去ってしまうのか……。それはまだ分かりません。しかし、SAUCERFUL OF SECRETSは登場の刹那から衝撃的であり、世界を巡るほどに初期FLOYDナンバーを芳醇でパワフルに進化させていったのは間違いない。本作は、そんな彼らの最終到達点なのです。１年２ヶ月に渡ってSAUCERFUL OF SECRETSと同行してきたリアルタイム・レポートの最終章。どうぞ、万感の想いで極上の本作を噛みしめてください。
