This is the whole view of “BROTHERHOOD TOUR”. “BRIXTON ACADEMY APRIL 1987” and “BBC RADIO 1 LIVE IN CONCERT” were the UK show in 1987, the second half of the tour, but the Hollywood performance of this work is the opposite. It was a concert corresponding to the 4th performance of “North America # 1” held in the first half of the tour.
The official record “BBC RADIO 1 LIVE IN CONCERT” was a live album based on the BBC broadcast as its name suggests, but this work can be said to be its US version. This show has been broadcast on FM radio and has reigned as a big staple of “BROTHERHOOD TOUR”. Master freshness is also excellent, there is no dubbing trace or tape twist, it seems as if the radio waves at that time jumped over the spacetime as it was. That is the quality of the official work mentioned above.
Even though the sound is official, the contents are delicious because they are completely different from the official works. Although this work is edited along the broadcasting frame of about 1 hour, it is not a full version of the show, but its selection is too exquisite. In fact, compared to the official work “BRIXTON ACADEMY APRIL 1987” “BBC RADIO 1 LIVE IN CONCERT”, only 4 songs are covered. Everything else is just something you can’t listen to even if you combine the two official works. Instead, it can be said that classics such as “The Perfect Kiss” and “Bizarre Love Triangle” are missing, but you can listen to precious songs such as “Leave Me Alone”, “Every Little Counts” and “Way Of Life” on the stereo sound board. The best part is nothing. The sub-text of “BRIXTON ACADEMY APRIL 1987” and “BBC RADIO 1 LIVE IN CONCERT” … No, it is a live album that should be called the “quasi-official work” that forms the trilogy.

This is a superb stereo sound board album that lets you listen to “BROTHERHOOD TOUR” with a completely different expression from the official work. This work alone is a wonderful music work, and a masterpiece of a live album that becomes even more attractive when combined with official works. そんな本作に収められているのは「1986年11月４日ハリウッド公演」。“BROTHERHOOD TOUR”と言えば、二度目の来日公演も実現し、公式作『BRIXTON ACADEMY APRIL 1987』『BBC RADIO 1 LIVE IN CONCERT』でもお馴染み。まずは、その位置関係を知る意味でも当時のツアー・スケジュールを振り返ってみましょう。

これが“BROTHERHOOD TOUR”の全景。『BRIXTON ACADEMY APRIL 1987』や『BBC RADIO 1 LIVE IN CONCERT』はツアー後半となる1987年の母国イギリスのショウでしたが、本作のハリウッド公演はその反対。ツアー前半に行われた「北米#1」の４公演目にあたるコンサートでした。
オフィシャル盤『BBC RADIO 1 LIVE IN CONCERT』は、その名の通りBBC放送を元にしたライヴアルバムでしたが、本作はその米国版とも言えるもの。このショウはFMラジオで放送されたこともあって“BROTHERHOOD TOUR”の大定番として君臨しており、密着感も綺麗にセパレートしたステレオ感も絶大。マスター鮮度も絶品で、ダビング痕やテープヨレもなく、当時の放送電波がそのまま時空を飛び越えてきたかのよう。それこそ、上記のオフィシャル作品にも引けを取らないクオリティなのです。
サウンドは公式級ではあっても、中身はオフィシャル作品とはまるで違うから美味しい。本作は約１時間の放送枠に沿って編集されているためにショウの完全版ではないのですが、そのセレクションがあまりにも絶妙なのです。実際、公式作『BRIXTON ACADEMY APRIL 1987』『BBC RADIO 1 LIVE IN CONCERT』と比べてみると被っているのは４曲だけ。他はすべて公式２作を併せても聴けないものばかりなのです。その代わり「The Perfect Kiss」「Bizarre Love Triangle」といったド定番が抜けているとも言えるわけですが、「Leave Me Alone」「Every Little Counts」「Way Of Life」といった貴重曲をステレオ・サウンドボードで聴ける醍醐味は何物にも代えられない。まさに『BRIXTON ACADEMY APRIL 1987』『BBC RADIO 1 LIVE IN CONCERT』のサブ・テキスト……いえ、三部作を成す“準オフィシャル作品”とも言うべきライヴアルバムなのです。

オフィシャル作品とはまったく違う表情の“BROTHERHOOD TOUR”を聴かせてくれる極上のステレオサウンドボード・アルバムです。本作だけでも素晴らしい音楽作品であり、公式作品と併せることでさらに魅力が増すライヴアルバムの大傑作。どうぞ、この機会にあなたのコレクションに加えてください。
