With the 50th anniversary of its formation, MOTT THE HOOPLE was also the topic of the first 45-year tour of North America. The latest and best original sound source is appearance.
In 2019, they went on a tour entitled “MOTT THE HOOPLE ’74” and the 45-year-old North American tour is part of that. I returned to my motherland England and finished all scheduled shows. Under such circumstances, “21 April 2019 Birmingham performance” is included in this work. It is the best audience recording. First of all, let’s look back on the whole picture of “MOTT THE HOOPLE ’74” in the meaning of knowing the outline of the activity.

・ April 1-10: North America (8 shows)
・ April 17-27: Britain (7 performances)

Above, all 15 performances. It’s small, but the reorganized MOTT THE HOOPLE so far is mostly a few performances of Hong. The scale itself that can be called “tour” that repeats every day and every night has been since 1974. Under such circumstances, the Birmingham performance of this work was a concert that hits the fourth performance of the middle of the “UK” edition.
This work that recorded such a show is just the finest audience recording. It is an original master of only this work that was directly handed down by the sounder himself, but this is already a great item. In our shop we recorded the “British Masters” familiar familiarity, speaking of his personality a combination of realistic air and contemporary clarity. This work has been utilized to its fullest effect, not a freshness and ease of listening is not a hammer. A sad but crisp core arrives straight at hand, and it is clear to the touch of the piano being hit repeatedly. Of course, although the hall noises are inhaled, it is wonderful because it does not cause cloudiness or turbidity. And the overwhelming reality is lively. Of course, the delights of the buzzing site are also real, but it is the music that you realize more than that. There is a clear presence on the timbre on the clear details, and the three-dimensional feeling is also super real. When I close my eyes, Ian Hunter, Morgan Fisher and Ariel Bender will be on stage. It’s a lively sound that’s buzzing at the live venue and the feeling that there is a real thing there.
The show drawn with that fine sound is a wonderful “1974” jumping over space-time. It does not reproduce a specific album or show, but there is a mood that a special show starts from the late David Bowie’s voice from the beginning to tell the opening, and it was assembled from all works except “WILDLIFE” and “BRAIN CAPERS” The golden repertoire is still rolled out. There is neither Dale Griffin nor Ovarend Watts anymore, but the melody and the enthusiasm can not help but remember the classic masterpiece “LIVE” of the tradition. The highlight is the medley of highlights. We will play a wide range of nine tracks from classic to standard over a period of about 16 minutes, including “Mean Woman Blues”, “Johnny B. Goode” and “You Really Got Me” that can not be heard in “LIVE”. And, THE RANT BAND, which fills the holes of Dale and Ovarend, is great. A steel wall just serving Ian’s back for a long time. It is a live album where you can breathe naturally with the three leading actors and feel every corner of the ensemble that you want to talk with, and immerse yourself in the whole body.

50 years from formation, 45 years from dissolution. MOTT THE HOOPLE who did the tour in 2019 which should be such a memory. It is a masterpiece of a live album that can be witnessed with super realistic sound while being clear on the scene. Usually, the presence and presence tend to be sacrificed when pursuing high-quality sound, but this rare one is reconciling both at unbelievable heights. Please enjoy yourself carefully.
