Michael Schenker in 1980 returned to the scene with the historic masterpiece “The Michael Schenker Group”. The legendary live album that allows you to experience the very early days is reprinted on the 2nd press.
The legendary board is engraved with “September 28, 1980 Derby Performance”. It is the superb audience recording. The initial MSG has few records and the schedule is unclear, but “God” was produced in May-July 1980 and released in August 1980. Since the tour started almost at the same time, it is a valuable record of the early stage, which is about one month from the full-scale start.
This work, which is a vacuum-packed site of such a dawn, is a superb product that appeared in 2015. I understand that it is a recording in the audience because there are a few close clappings, but the direct feeling of the performance sound is awesome as if you go on the “sound board” on the ground. There is no disturbing audience noise, and even the chorus of Paul Raymond & Chris Glenn can be heard tightly. Of course, Chris Glenn’s bass is also thick, and above all, Cozy Powell’s drumming is awesome! Speaking of the UK tour that has just started, in addition to the rehearsals mentioned above, it is about “Armed And Ready” and “Into The Arena” that were adopted for the single B side. It’s unheard of for an album that captures the very early MSG with such a wonderful sound.
However, the original sound that appeared on the net had some drawbacks. There was a cut due to a tape change in the latter half of “Rock Bottom”. In this work, that part is complemented by the legendary board “RETURN OF THE FLYING ARROW” of Cozy Tape, which contains tour rehearsals of the same period. Even though it was complemented with the high-quality sound board, the discomfort was minimal. It can’t be said that it’s so natural that you don’t notice it, but on the contrary, the sound of the main story is so wonderful that you think “Please return to the live tape soon”. If you listen to that masterpiece, you’ll understand how amazing this is.
It is a fresh full show that is unfolded with such a de-class sound because it is a very early MSG. Speaking of MSG in the Cozy era, “Flying Legend (Complete Edition)” is the standard, but this work is an initial set before “Myth”. Let’s organize by comparing here.

… And it looks like this. The axis of the set is definitely the super-famous “God”. All songs except “Bijou Pleasurette” are shown, and UFO’s representative songs are studded there. It looks a lot like Rock Palast’s famous pro shot, but you can also enjoy “Shoot Shoot” that you can’t hear there either. Moreover, the song order is almost “God”. The “Bijou Pleasurette” part has been replaced with “Natural Thing”, and “Rock Bottom” is inserted between “Looking Out From Nowhere” and “Tales Of Mystery”, but other than that, “God” is the same. At that time, there was no such method as “album reproduction live”, but it is a “live version of” God “” that is as close as possible to that.
Of course, the performance that spins such a set is the biggest listening point. It’s been a short time since the start, so the solidity of doing it is conspicuous, but it’s not a minus because it’s a type of band that originally reproduces songs with a sense of construction. The enthusiasm that the new band has just begun and the polite performance reveal its stunning beauty. And Michael Schenker’s sweet and sad tone is already crying, singing and screaming Flying V! Michael has a career of about 40 years since the “phenomenon” in 1974, but there is no other time when he was so beautiful, so delicate, and so eloquent. Phrases that are likely to break if touched go crazy. How many times did I have to hit the keyboard to write so far?
In addition to being so wonderful, the reality unique to audience recording is perfect for this work. During the new song from “God”, the audience did not make a fuss about whether it was frozen in the beautiful melody, but when the song was over, they all cheered. Especially the member introduction is super real. After Gary Barden introduced Paul and Chris, he asked, “Who is behind me?”, And as soon as I waited, the cheers of “Cozy!” And “Cozy!” Blew up. The final performance at RAINBOW, MONSTERS OF ROCK, is “August 16th”, so it’s been almost a month since then. It is a scene that conveys how popular Cozy was in England at that time (Is the tour already booked at the end of RAINBOW at this time?).

Burning “Lights Out” that pops away from the exchange of “Lights!” And “Out !!”! It is a masterpiece of a live album where you can meet fresh Michael and Cozy who just taught you for the first time in 41 years. Michael jumped out of a rock’n’roll based UFO and filled it with “my music” from corner to corner. And a 100% authentic document woven by the enthusiasm of authentic British kids less than a month after the impact of “The Michael Schenker Group”. Here is a reprint with a dignified 2nd press!

歴史的大名盤『神（帰ってきたフライング・アロウ）』と共にシーンに復帰した1980年のマイケル・シェンカー。その極初期を極上体験できる伝説ライヴアルバムが2ndプレスで復刻です。
その伝説盤に刻まれているのは「1980年９月28日ダービー公演」。その超極上オーディエンス録音です。初期MSGは記録が少なく日程などはあやふやなのですが、『神』が制作されたのは1980年５月-７月で、発売は1980年８月。ほぼ同時にツアーも始まっていますので、本格始動から約１ヶ月という初期中の初期という貴重な記録なのです。
そんな黎明の現場を真空パックした本作は、2015年に登場した極上の銘品。近い手拍子がわずかに入っているので客席録音ということは分かるのですが、演奏音のダイレクト感は「まるでサウンドボード」を地で行く凄まじさ。邪魔するオーディエンスノイズは一切なく、ポール・レイモンド＆クリス・グレンのコーラスまでキッチリと聞こえるのです。もちろん、クリス・グレンの低音も芯が太く、何よりコージー・パウエルのドラミングの凄まじいこと！　始動したての英国ツアーと言えば、前述のリハーサルの他にはシングルＢ面に採用された「Armed And Ready」「Into The Arena」程度。極初期MSGをここまで見事なサウンドで捉えきったアルバムなど、前代未聞です。
ただし、ネットに登場した原音には欠点もありました。「Rock Bottom」の後半でテープチェンジによるカットがあったのです。本作では、そのパートを同時期のツアーリハーサルを収めたコージー・テープの伝説盤『RETURN OF THE FLYING ARROW』で補完。かの高音質サウンドボードで補完したにも関わらず、その違和感は最小限。さすがに「気づかないほど自然」とは言えませんが、逆に「早くライヴテープに戻ってくれ」と思うほど本編のサウンドが素晴らしいのです。かの名盤をお聴きの方なら、これがどれほど凄いことなのかご理解いただけることでしょう。
そんなド級のサウンドで繰り広げられるのは、極初期MSGだからこそのフレッシュなフルショウ。コージー時代のMSGと言えば『飛翔伝説（完全版）』が基準となりますが、本作は『神話』以前の初期セット。ここで比較しながら整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。セットの軸は間違いなく超名盤『神』。「Bijou Pleasurette」以外の全曲が披露され、そこにUFOの代表曲が散りばめられている。ロックパラストの有名プロショットに酷似しているようにも見えますが、そこでも聴けない「Shoot Shoot」も楽しめます。しかも、曲順もほぼ『神』。「Bijou Pleasurette」の部分が「Natural Thing」に差し替えられ、「Looking Out From Nowhere」と「Tales Of Mystery」の間に「Rock Bottom」が入りますが、それ以外は『神』そのまんま。当時は「アルバム再現ライヴ」等という手法はなかったわけですが、それに限りなく近い「生演奏版の『神』」なのです。
もちろん、そんなセットを紡ぐ演奏こそが最大の聴きどころ。始動から日も浅いだけにキッチリとこなしていく堅実さも目立ちますが、もともと構築感あふれる楽曲を再現していくタイプのバンドのため、それがマイナスになっていない。新バンドが始まったばかりの熱さと、丁寧な演奏が見事な美しさを現出しているのです。そして、マイケル・シェンカーの甘く切ないトーンがもう、泣きに泣き、歌い叫ぶフライングＶ！　1974年の「現象」から約40年のキャリアを積んでいるマイケルですが、ここまで美しく、ここまで繊細で、ここまで雄弁だった時は他にない。触れれば壊れてしまいそうなフレーズが舞い狂う。ここまで書くのに、何度キーボードを打つ手が固まったことか……。
それほど素晴らしい上、本作にはオーディエンス録音ならではのリアリティもばっちり。『神』からの新曲の間、美旋律に凍りついているのか観客が大騒ぎすることはありませんが、曲が終わるや一斉に大喝采。特にメンバー紹介は超リアル。ゲイリー・バーデンがポールやクリスを紹介した後、「俺の後ろにいるのは誰だ？」と問いかけるや、待ってましたとばかりに「コージー！」「コージー！」の大声援が沸き上がる。RAINBOWでの最終公演MONSTERS OF ROCKは「８月16日」ですから、それからほぼ１ヶ月。当時のイギリスでいかにコージーの人気が高かったかがビシビシ伝わってくるシーンです（この時期にツアーということは、RAINBOW末期には既にブッキングしていたのでしょうか）。

「Lights！」「Out!!」のやり取りから弾け飛ぶ、灼熱の「Lights Out」！　指導したばかりのフレッシュなマイケルやコージーに41年ぶりに再会できるライヴアルバムの大傑作です。ロックンロール調がベースだったUFOを飛び出し、隅から隅まで“自分の音楽”で塗り固めたマイケル。そして『神（帰ってきたフライング・アロウ）』の衝撃から１ヶ月も経たない本場イギリスのキッズの熱狂が織りなす本生100％のドキュメント。ここに堂々の2ndプレスで復刻です！
