The ultimate live in Japan which greeted a name singer called “vision” among maniacs appeared. It is included in this work “May 24, 2000: Umeda Heat Beat” performance. Especially, it seems to be good at exquisite guitar sounds, and has had a series of masterful and famous recordings by MEGADETH, John · Sykes, Yngwie · Malmsteen, MR.BIG and so on. This work is wonderful of the top class even such a good collection. Because there are too many name recordings, we can not declare it as “the best masterpiece” lightly, but it will definitely become its most promising candidate.
Actually, the sound of this work is abnormal. The venue is sometimes called “Umeda Heat Beat”, but it is super direct sound which can not be explained by itself. Not all of the sounds of all instruments are as close as possible. Moreover, the sense of stereo is also vivid and the ensemble surrounds the circumference of the head. The barefoot of the line is barefoot, the drum is three-dimensional enough to understand the structure of the kit, realistic enough to feel the vibration of the skin. From bass solo in the middle stage of “Into The Arena”, from a sense of funky picking to a rich vibrato, it unequivocally resolved. Of course, the greatest one is Michael’s Flying V. Ultra-thick, super delicate and super close enough to believe it if it is told that “I actually overdub the guitar’s line recording”. Chalking, vivrato and neck bend float with eyes alone. One grain of a little squeaking sound is terribly brilliant, it is super fist as if it is listening on the stage by standing among the members rather than in front of the eyes.

And the show drawn with that sound is amazingly wonderful. “Surprising” is a rude way of speaking, but MSG at that time is quite modest in history. Every song / tour, the singer and music nature changed and the image did not settle, and it seemed to be straying. However, this work gleams glittering in such a situation. First of all, hidden name singer Keith Slack. I think that there are also people who think “who?”, But that is no problem. Keith’s career is particularly modest in MSG after the 1990s. It does not participate in the studio work, only appears in the bonus image of live album “THE UNFORGIVEN WORLD TOUR” and DVD “LIVE IN TOKYO 1997”. Even for other carriers, it is only TAZ TAYLOR BAND and Mike Slammer’s STEELHOUSE LANE and other bands that are fiercely received by professionals. However, it is mania to find talent with only that little sound source. Keith was a singer who can make such maniacs grow. Voice quality and powerful singing pleasantly escape. And it is unfortunate that I did not leave the studio work, such as a tune that I can show to the rest of the singing voice.
Besides, Keith will be able to sing the full story in this Japanese performance. In Western tours, Kelly Keyring accompanied them, and they were singing together with “THE UNFORGIVEN WORLD TOUR” by two people. However, in Japan, Kelly was busy making solo albums, and Keith became alone. Therefore, this work is much different from “THE UNFORGIVEN WORLD TOUR” in impression. In ‘THE UNFORGIVEN WORLD TOUR’, Keith sings the song that Kelly was singing, and there are plenty of classic masterpieces such as “Cry For The Nations”, “Let Sleeping Dogs Lie”, “Rock My Nights Away” and “Looking For Love”. Furthermore, songs that I could not listen to in “THE UNFORGIVEN WORLD TOUR” such as new songs “Hello Angel” “In And Out Of Time”, “Instruction album” ADVENTURES OF THE IMAGINATION “” Three Fish Dancing ” is.
In addition, Michael who is the key player is doing great. A ridiculous incident occurred in 1998 UFO and 2006 MSG, but this work was the only one that came during that time. Without any incidents, all songs are crispy. From the beginning, beauty melodies dance, dance and restart MSG is one of the best known performances.

マニアの間で“幻”と呼ばれる名シンガーを迎えた超極上ライヴ・イン・ジャパンが登場です。本作に収められているのは「2000年５月24日：梅田Heat Beat」公演。90年代に復活したMSG２度目の来日公演の一幕です。まずは、当時の来日スケジュールの中でショウのポジションを確認しておきましょう。

以上、全４公演。現在でこそMICHAEL SCHENKER FESTで完全復活を遂げたマイケルですが、当時は全キャリアでも最も厳しかった時代。神を信奉する日本でさえ（２年前の“UFO事件”のせいか）かなり小ぶりの日程でした。

【異常なる超ハイクオリティ・サウンド】
そんな本作最大の旨みは、“超”を２つも３つも付けたいスーパー・オーディエンス・サウンド。録音家本人から直接譲られたマスターをダイレクトにCD化したものですが、そのクオリティは「まるでサウンドボード」を地で行く凄まじさ。本作をモノにしたのは90年代から2000年代初頭に大阪で知られた名手でして、当店でも数々の名作をご紹介してきた人物。特に極上なギターサウンドが得意なようで、これまでもMEGADETHやジョン・サイクス、イングヴェイ・マルムスティーン、MR.BIGなどで凄まじい名作・名録音を連発してきました。本作は、そんな名手コレクションでも頂点級の素晴らしさ。あまりにも名録音が多いので軽々に「最高傑作」と断じることは出来ませんが、間違いなくその最有力候補にはなるのです。
実際、本作のサウンドは異常。会場が小さな“梅田Heat Beat”ということもありますが、それだけでは説明の付かない超ダイレクト・サウンド。距離感などまるでなく、すべての楽器のすべての音が超間近。しかもステレオ感も鮮やかでアンサンブルが頭の周りを囲み込む。細やかさもライン裸足で、ドラムはキットの構造が分かるほどに立体的で、皮の振動を感じられるほどにリアル。「Into The Arena」中盤のベースソロなど、ファンキーなピッキングのハネ感から豊かなヴァイヴレーションまで異様に克明。もちろん、最高に凄いのはマイケルのフライングＶ。「実はギターのライン録音をオーバーダブした」と言われたら信じてしまいそうなほど超極太・超繊細・超間近。チョーキングもヴィヴラートもネックベンドも音だけで目に浮かぶ。ちょっとした軋みの音の１粒まで恐ろしく鮮やかで、目の前どころかメンバーの間に立ってステージ上で聴いているかのような超極上ぶりです。

【隠れた名シンガーと絶好調マイケル】
そして、そのサウンドで描かれるショウが意外なほどに素晴らしい。「意外」とは失礼な言い方になってしまいましたが、当時のMSGは歴史の中ではかなり地味。アルバム／ツアーの度にシンガーも音楽性もコロコロ変わり、イメージも定着しないまま迷走気味でした。しかし、本作はそんな中でギラリと光るのです。その要はまず隠れた名シンガー、キース・スラック。「誰？」と思われる方もいらっしゃると思いますが、それも無理はない。90年代以降のMSGでもキースのキャリアはとりわけ地味。スタジオ作品には参加せず、ライヴアルバム『THE UNFORGIVEN WORLD TOUR』やDVD『LIVE IN TOKYO 1997』のボーナス映像に登場するのみ。他のキャリアにしてもTAZ TAYLOR BANDやマイク・スラマーのSTEELHOUSE LANEなど、猛烈に玄人受けなバンドばかりなのです。しかし、その少ない音源だけでも才能を見つけ出すのがマニア。キースは、そんなマニアを唸らせるシンガーでした。気持ちよく抜ける声質とパワフルな歌いっぷり。そして、歌声の端々に見せる余裕のある節回しなど、スタジオ作を残さなかったのが残念なくらいに見事なのです。
しかも、この日本公演はそのキースが全編を歌いきる。欧米ツアーではケリー・キーリングも同行しており、『THE UNFORGIVEN WORLD TOUR』でも２人で歌い分けていました。しかし、日本はケリーがソロアルバムの制作で忙しく、キース独りとなったのです。そのため、本作は『THE UNFORGIVEN WORLD TOUR』とだいぶ印象が異なる。『THE UNFORGIVEN WORLD TOUR』ではケリーが歌っていた曲もキースが歌いますし、「Cry For The Nations」「Let Sleeping Dogs Lie」「Rock My Nights Away」「Looking For Love」といった往年の名曲も盛りだくさん。さらに新曲の「Hello Angel」「In And Out Of Time」、インスト・アルバム『ADVENTURES OF THE IMAGINATION』の「Three Fish Dancing」など、『THE UNFORGIVEN WORLD TOUR』では聴けなかった曲もたっぷりと披露されるのです。
更に加えて、肝心要のマイケルが絶好調。1998年のUFOや2006年のMSGではとんでもない事件も起きてしまいましたが、本作はその間にあった唯一の来日。事件もなく本領発揮で、どの曲もキレッキレ。終始、美旋律が舞い踊り、再始動MSGでも屈指の名演なのです。

歴史的にはイメージの安定しなかった再編MSG時代。しかし、その時代でもステージではマイケルだけの美音と美旋律が輝いていた。その事実を超極上サウンドで真空パックしたライヴアルバムの大傑作です。知られざる実力シンガーの歌声と貴重な名曲もたっぷりの銘品。マイケルのキャリアをトータルで追っているマニアには、満足以上の感動をくれる大傑作です。
