METALLICA in the “BLACK ALBUM” era, which determined the scene and one’s destiny with an astronomical hit. Introducing a new excavation live album that allows you to experience the scene of the great heyday.
The engraving on this work is “December 9, 1992 Copenhagen performance”. It is an excellent audience recording that recorded the whole story. METALLICA, who climbed to the symbol of her time with “BLACK ALBUM”, has been touring for three years until 1994. We also changed the tour title in each section, so let’s organize the flow here.

Such a pattern of 1992 was also seen in the San Diego performance of the official box “LIVE SHIT: Binge & Purge”, but that video is “North America # 1” at the beginning. On the other hand, the Copenhagen performance of this work was the 31st performance of “Europe # 2” which is the final stage. At that time, they said, “A full three-year tour is like entering a school and graduating.” Is it something like “Summer vacation for the second year of high school album”?
Aside from that, this work recorded at such a show is a truly beautiful and exquisite audience. The recording that lacked the beginning was known on this day, but this work is a completely different new excavation master. It’s an audience recording that also sucks in the sound of the hall, but the core that cuts through the center of it is extremely powerful, and it has plenty of density and response. If you don’t feel sick and the lyrics are clear, you can even see the angle of the arm bar that makes the guitar squeak. In addition, the hole sound is thick, hot, and dynamically colored with such a clear core. It’s not mistaken for a sound board, but the more I listen to it, the more I think, “If it’s an FM broadcast with a thick echo, there’s a sound like this.”
The dynamic sound is drawn at the site of METALLICA, which is in the middle of the historic heyday. The set is very similar to “LIVE SHIT”, but not exactly the same. Let’s organize it by comparing it with the official video of the San Diego performance.

Another point is “Jam” which is held before the big lath “Stone Cold Crazy”. Before the encore, I lightly paint as I can think of, but the theme of the day was “RIDE THE LIGHTNING”. The title song and “Fight Fire With Fire” are being performed. “Ride the Lightning” is pretty sloppy, but “Fight Fire With Fire” is pretty serious. Even though I did a guitar solo and it collapsed, wasn’t it okay to do everything as it is? It’s hot enough to think. It is a play that seems to be the sprout of the later “Kill / Ride Medley”.
The atmosphere of the ensemble is close to “LIVE SHIT”, and it is glorious anyway. It is a big 3-disc set that allows you to experience the full show of the ultra-golden age with the dynamism that makes the stadium boil while keeping the edge of thrash metal. そんな本作に刻まれているのは「1992年12月９日コペンハーゲン公演」。その一部始終を記録した絶品オーディエンス録音です。『BLACK ALBUM』で時代の象徴にまで登り詰めたMETALLICAは、1994年まで丸３年に渡ってツアー三昧。各セクションでツアータイトルも変えていましたので、ここでその流れを整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。1992年だけで北米と欧州を２周ずつ回っており、その合間にフレディ・マーキュリー追悼コンサートに出演したり、ガンズとの協働ツアー「北米#2」を実施したり。そんな1992年の模様は公式ボックス『LIVE SHIT: Binge & Purge』のサンディエゴ公演でも見られましたが、あの映像は冒頭「北米#1」。それに対して本作のコペンハーゲン公演は、最終盤となる「欧州#2」31公演目にあたるコンサートでした。当時の彼らは「丸３年間のツアーってのは、学校に入学して卒業するようなもの」と語っていましたが、ツアー開始から１年４ヶ月が経った本作は、さしずめ「ブラックアルバム高校２年生の夏休み」といったところでしょうか。
さておき、そんなショウで記録された本作は、実に端麗な絶品オーディエンス。この日は冒頭の欠けた録音が知られてきましたが、本作はまったく別の新発掘マスター。ホール鳴りも吸い込んだオーディエンス録音なのですが、そのド真ん中を突っ切ってくる芯がやけに力強く、密度も手応えもたっぷり。スカスカ感がまるでなく、歌詞の１語１語もハッキリしていれば、ギターは軋ませるアームバーの角度まで目に浮かぶほど。さらに、それほど鮮明な芯をホール鳴りがぶ厚く、熱く、ダイナミックに彩っている。サウンドボードと間違えたりはしないものの、聴き込むほどに「エコーの厚いFM放送だとこんな感じの音もあるな」と思えてきてしまうのです。
そんなダイナミック・サウンドで描かれるのは、歴史的大全盛の真っ直中にいるMETALLICAの現場。セットは『LIVE SHIT』にも酷似しておりますが、まったく同じでもない。サンディエゴ公演の公式映像と比較しながら整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。ざっくばらんに言いますとサンディエゴ公演から「The Four Horsemen」を落として「Nothing Else Matters」をセット入りした感じ。もう１つポイントなのが大ラス「Stone Cold Crazy」前に行われる「Jam」。アンコール前に思いつくまま軽く絵のすするのですが、この日のテーマは『RIDE THE LIGHTNING』。タイトル曲と「Fight Fire With Fire」を披露しています。「Ride the Lightning」はかなりいい加減ですが、「Fight Fire With Fire」は結構マジ。ギターソロまでやって崩壊するものの、このまま全部やっても良かったんじゃないか？と思うほど熱い。後の「Kill/Ride Medley」の萌芽のようにも思える遊びです。
アンサンブルの雰囲気は『LIVE SHIT』に近く、とにかくグロリアス。スラッシュメタルのエッジをキープしつつ、スタジアムを沸かせるダイナミズムを身につけた超・黄金時代のフルショウを極上体験できるビッグな３枚組です。これだけのマスターが未だに新発掘される……METALLICAコレクションの奥深さに胸が熱くなる大傑作。どうぞ、胸いっぱいにお楽しみください。
