A treasured video renamed to DREAM THEATER is now available in ultimate quality. Included in this work is a home video taken by himself immediately after joining Charlie Dominici. It has been a famous video among traders for a long time, but this work is a genuine master released by Dominici himself!
The quality is overwhelming. In the video era, it was known for its rather severe generation that faded, and the color master that was discovered at our shop after that has been the decisive board. However, this work is far from that. Of course, it was shot by an amateur on a handy home video, but the colors and details are unmatched. There is no deterioration over time, and the image is beautiful as if it was taken yesterday.
The shocking master quality is drawn by those who hone their skills in the basement aiming to become professionals. There are five members, “WHEN DREAM AND DAY UNITE”, but they are all young Hatachi (only Dominici is 36 years old). It feels like “American metal kids” playing around with the camera in front of me, but when I start playing, it’s not just a kid. Beating up with a fierce and fierce defeat. What’s more, a dream theater ensemble that is completely different from thrash metal and Yngwie is out. We are constantly developing progressive metal that will rewrite history by leaving it to youth.

DREAM THEATERに改名前の秘蔵映像が究極クオリティで登場です。本作に収められているのは、チャーリー・ドミニシ加入直後に本人が撮影したホーム・ビデオ。以前からトレーダー間では有名な映像なのですが、本作はなんとドミニシ本人が公開した正真正銘のマスターです！
そのクオリティは圧倒的。ビデオ時代は色落ちしたかなり厳しいジェネレーションで知られており、その後当店で発掘したカラー・マスターが決定盤とされてきました。しかし、本作はそれどころではない。もちろん、素人がハンディのホームビデオで撮影したものではありますが、色合いもディテールもこれまでとは比較にならない。経年劣化も見られず、まさに昨日撮影したかのように見事な映像美なのです。
衝撃のマスター・クオリティで描かれるのは、プロを目指して地下室で腕を磨く彼ら。メンバーは『WHEN DREAM AND DAY UNITE』の５人ですが、揃いも揃ってハタチの若造（ドミニシのみ36歳）。カメラを前にふざけているのが「アメリカのメタル・キッズ」な感じなのですが、いざ演奏を始めるや、ただのガキじゃありゃしない。猛烈・苛烈な弾き倒しに叩きまくり。しかも、スラッシュ・メタルやイングヴェイとはまったく違う夢劇場アンサンブルがムキ出し。若さに任せて歴史を塗り替えるプログレ・メタルを一心不乱に開発中なのです。
しかも、その開発はかなりのところまで進んでいる。すでに『WHEN DREAM AND DAY UNITE』収録の名曲「A Fortune In Lies」「The Ones Who Help To Set The Sun」も演奏しているのですが、前者はギターソロ、後者はメロディラインこそアルバムとは異なるものの、それ以外のアレンジは完成。ハタチにしてすでに革命の種は出来上がっていたとは……。その他にも未完成なインストジャムやロバート・ジョンソンの（と言うよりはCREAMの）カバー「Crossroads」も演奏していますが、どれもが苛烈なまでの演奏力が全開。一見、ガンズのスラッシュにも見えるモサモサ頭で超速テクニカルに叩きまくるマイク・ポートノイ、ふざけたステップで歩き回りながら指だけが高速で動き回るジョン・ペトルーシ、あの独特なハイトーンで歌い上げるドミニシ。汚い地下室の中で芽吹いた『WHEN DREAM AND DAY UNITE』の萌芽がマスター・クオリティで目撃できるのです。

膨れあがった髪型、テロップに「FCK*UPS」と入れてしまう若さ、色反転や画面分割などのホームビデオ編集、細かく撮影したドラムソロを繋げて喜んでいる手作り感……。何もかもが素人臭いものの、その音楽と演奏だけは本物。バークリー音楽院を辞めてから１年、地下で自らの音楽を磨き上げていた革命児たちのリアルすぎるドキュメンタリーです。そんな30年前の貴重映像を、撮影したドミニシ本人のマスターで描く究極のレア映像作品。
