An audience album that captures the United States tour performed after Linda Ronstadt released the album “SIMPLE DREAMS” with amazing sound quality will be released on a limited press. Speaking of the masterpiece audience of the live of the late 70’s that is her peak period, a major title called “LAY DOWN BESIDE ME” of Boston in 1976 has been released from the ZION label. The exceptional quality has received great acclaim, but with the ultra-high quality audience recording along with it, this time it will realistically reproduce the live stage of 77 years.
Speaking of the ‘SIMPLE DREAMS’ tour of ’77, Atlanta’s December was the standard for recording and broadcasting by an Australian television station. The masterpiece press DVD “ATLANTA 1977” has already been released from the MASTERPORT label for this video, but this time, the stage recorded at the Universal Amphitheatre at Los Angeles two months ago from that was recorded. Linda, whose popularity has exploded in the big hit of the previous year’s album “HASTEN DOWN THE WIND”, has been promoted to a position where it will finally get a stardom by releasing “SIMPLE DREAMS”. The tour for this album starts from the end of August 77, but the first highlight of the tour is the 12 consecutive nights of the Universal Amphitheater from the end of September to the end of October. All the tickets were sold out and the day was a great success. It was October 3 that the Chienraku is released this time.

The 76-year-old Boston “LAY DOWN BESIDE ME” boasts an ultra-quality enough to call it “a rare masterpiece” among Linda’s 70s live sound sources. This quality is comparable to that, and it would be a live in LA … Yes, it was the Mike Millard who recorded this show. For him in 1977, it is a year of “ear of eddy”. That’s why it produced rare recordings, but it’s surprising that you went to a Linda concert a few months after the LA Forum enthusiasm.
Conversely, she was a popular acclaim at that time, as Millard wanted to record. Speaking of the Universal Amphitheater in the first place, it is remembered that we captured the stage of the Bob Dylan of the next year with the best sound quality, but it is superb because I also captured the Linda of this day with the perfect sound quality.
Atlanta’s professional shot DVD was perfect in terms of image quality, but the soundboard audio was rather balanced close to a direct table connection. リンダ・ロンシュタットがアルバム「SIMPLE DREAMS」をリリースした後に行ったアメリカ・ツアーを驚異的な音質にて捉え切ったオーディエンス・アルバムが限定プレスにてCDリリースされます。彼女の絶頂期である70年代後半のライブの名作オーディエンスと言えば1976年ボストンの「LAY DOWN BESIDE ME」という大名盤がZIONレーベルからリリース済。あまりに別格のクオリティは大絶賛を受けましたが、遂にそれと並ぶ超ハイクオリティ・オーディエンス録音にて、今度は77年のライブ・ステージをリアルに再現してくれます。
77年「SIMPLE DREAMS」ツアーと言えばオーストラリアのテレビ局が収録と放送を行った12月のアトランタが定番。この映像に関してもMASTERPORTレーベルから名作プレスDVD「ATLANTA 1977」がリリース済ですが、今回はそれより二か月前、ロスアンジェルスのユニヴァーサル・アンフィシアターで行われたステージを収録。前年のアルバム「HASTEN DOWN THE WIND」の大ヒットで人気が爆発したリンダは「SIMPLE DREAMS」のリリースによって遂にスターダムを獲得する位置にまで昇格。このアルバムの為のツアーは77年8月下旬からスタートしますが、その最初のハイライトとなったのが9月下旬から10月下旬にかけてのユニヴァーサル・アンフィシアター12夜連続公演。そのすべてのチケットがソールドアウトとなり連日大盛況。その千秋楽が今回リリースされる10月3日でした。

76年ボストン「LAY DOWN BESIDE ME」はリンダの70年代ライブ音源の中でも「稀代の名盤」と呼んで差し支えないほどのウルトラ・クオリティを誇りました。今回もそれに匹敵するほどのクオリティ、しかもLAでのライブとなれば…そう、このショーを録音したのは、かのマイク・ミラードだったのです。彼にとって1977年と言えば「イヤー・オブ・エディ」な一年。それこそ稀代の名録音を生み出してくれた訳ですが、LAフォーラムでの熱狂から数か月後、リンダのコンサートにも出向いていたとは意外な事実でしょう。
逆に言えばミラードが録音したくなるほど当時の彼女は人気絶頂だったという訳です。そもそもミラードのユニヴァーサル・アンフィシアターと言えば翌年のボブ・ディランのステージを最高の音質で捉えてくれたことが思い出されますが、この日のリンダも完璧な音質で捉えているからお見事。
アトランタのプロショットDVDは画質面において申し分なかったのですが、サウンドボード音声の方はどちらかというと卓直結に近いバランス。よって演奏アンサンブルのクリアネスは申し分なかったのですが、臨場感の希薄さが否めなかった。ましてや人気絶頂期です。その点で本領発揮なのが今回のミラード録音。アンフィシアターならではの親密さと人気が頂点に達した臨場感をしっかりとキャッチしてくれている。とは言っても演奏をかき消したり、あるいは耳を突くような盛り上がりは皆無。そこはミラード録音、あくまでも主人公はリンダの声と熟練ミュージシャンによる演奏なのです。
となると「高音質」、あるいは「まるでサウンドボード」という枕詞すら生ぬるい。もはやサウンドボードそのものかと錯覚しそうなほどのウルトラ・クオリティはそれだけで全音楽ファンに一聴の価値があると断言します。それが人気絶頂期のリンダ・ライブともなれば、これはもうマニアでなくとも楽しめること請け合い。おまけに今回はJEMSがファースト・ジェネレーション・コピーを元にして公開してくれたバージョンを元にしていますので、限定プレスCDリリースに当たっての調整もほとんど必要なかった。

そして何よりも驚かされるのが、これが12夜連続公演の最終日とは思えないほど絶好調なリンダの声。正に「パンチのある歌声」という表現がピッタリくる歌唱は本当に素晴らしい。シンガーソングライター全盛の1970年代において、あくまでもシンガーであることを通したリンダが遂に爆発した人気を後ろ盾にして堂々たるショーを繰り広げる様は圧巻。一回のステージがCD一枚に収まる長さであったことも、そのような連続公演を可能としたのだと思われますが、トリプル・プラチナ・ディスクを記録するほどの大ヒットを記録した「SIMPLE DREAMS」ツアーは、遂にこの後アリーナへと会場を拡大させます。それだけに、このリラックスしたムードのシアター公演を完璧な音質で捉えてくれた音源の価値はリンダの歴史的にも重要なもの。
実は「SIMPLE DREAMS」ツアーは開始直後にキーボード・プレイヤーのドン・グロルニックが交通事故に遭ってしまい、前年のツアーではギターを弾いていたソングライターのアンドリュー・ゴールドがキーボードに移る形で継続となり、実際にここの日もバンドメンバーの交代を余儀なくされたことをリンダが告げています。むしろそうしたハプニングすら跳ね返さんばかりなバンドの結束力が伝わってくるのもミラード録音のウルトラ・クオリティならでは。ライブ終盤「You’re No Good」でのケニー・エドワーズのベース・ソロからワディ・ワクテルのギター・ソロが続く場面などはサウンドボードでも捉え切れないのでは？と思えるほどの生々しさ。人気の頂点を迎えたリンダ最高のステージを究極の音質で捉えてくれた、マイク・ミラードの新たな傑作が登場です！
