ではUS初版となるとどうも分かりにくく音がやたらデカいものだったり、そうでもなかったり、またATOCOレーベル仕様のヘンテコなミックス盤、どれが初版と断言できるアイテムがないようにも思えます。そして究極のアイテムといえるテスト盤の存在までも確認されています。
これらのUK盤、US盤はフイジカルCD化されており現在でも入手は可能なようです。

また国内盤初版はダブルジャケットで裏面のメンバー写真と名前が間違って表記されていることで有名でお値段もこちらもコレクターには高値で取引されています。

Zep 1stをフツーにUK盤で聴いてみたいというファンの方におすすめしたいものが今回のボーナスアイテムです。
それは78年頃に再発売されたマトリックス部分にStrawberryとの刻印があるUK盤です。Strawberryとは78年ごろからUK/WEAを中心に活躍したStrawberry Mastering によってカッティングされた1stなのです。このStrawberry Masteringでカッティングされたアナログ盤はザ・ジャム、ニュー・オーダー、ザ・ドゥルッティ・コラムといったパンク/ニュー・ウェーブ系の名盤の数々を手がけていることでアナログファンには知られています。このStrawberry MasteringによるカッティングされたZepの1st、よく聴いてみるとなかなかにいい音なのです。
ご説明したとおりUK初版のターコイズブルーやUS別ミックス盤はフイジカルCD化されています、そこで今回は70年代末のレコード時代には普通に購入し聴くことができたUK盤1stをミントコンディションのデイスクを使用して再現しました。CD時代の現在では考えられないことですが、アナログ時代には再発売の度にその都度新たにマスタリングしカッティングを行っていたのです。
このデイスクでその違いをお聞きになってみてください。UK盤ならではの味わいがある音です。
