そんな本作を制作したのは、海外の超有名コレクター。LED ZEPPELIN研究の世界的権威として知られる人物です。先日、ギフト・タイトルとして『RE-EDITED: 40TH ANNIVERSARY VERSION』もご紹介しましたが、本作は、それとはまったくの別人制作の別物。ギフト盤は、オーディエンス録音まで駆使して愛情たっぷりに仕上げられていましたが、その仕上がりはいかにも“ファン・メイド”といった感じ。元ソースの繋ぎでは音質差もハッキリと分かるものでした。それはそれで、公式盤の欠けや作業工程が透ける面白味もあったのですが、本作の完成度はまったくの別次元。まるで１ソースで貫いたかのように自然。それこそ、“完全収録のサウンドボードが出てきたぞ！”とでも言われたら、信じてしまいそうなほど完璧なライヴアルバムになっているのです。
まず、使用されている材料は６種。公式『永遠の詩』CDと『狂熱のライヴ』DVDのオリジナル・リリース版と2007年版、『レッド・ツェッペリンDVD』、さらにMSG公演の既発サウンドボード音源。ギフト盤ではオーディエンス録音も使用されていましたが、本作は完全にサウンドボード・オンリーです。もちろん、いかなサウンドボードであってもただ繋いだだけではギクシャクするものですが、本作にはそれさえ感じられない。音量・音圧は言うに及ばず、音質のニュアンスまでもが綺麗に整えられ、パンされるステレオ感覚の幅まで見事に揃えられているのです。これまでも各国マニアが最長盤に挑戦した音源はいくつかありましたが、ここまで緻密でプロフェッショナルな仕上がりは聴いたことがない。世界のトップ・マニアとは、ここまで凄いものなのでしょうか……。
