The first day of the first performance in Japan, “923”, is also famous for having a lot of very good audience recordings, but just 10 years ago, an 8mm audience shot from the arena appeared on the official YouTube channel. Delighted the enthusiast. However, in 2018, a new 8mm video shot from the second floor has appeared. It was a very valuable image, but it wasn’t until recently that it got the attention of enthusiasts because it appeared quietly. Meanwhile, a 20-minute long version of this video appeared last week and has become a hot topic among enthusiasts around the world.
Although it was glimpsed in the 2018 version of the excerpt video, the video taken from this upstairs seat is surprisingly easy to see. Of course, it is not a level where you can hear the facial expressions of the members, but even so, the historical scene of the first day of the Budokan is firmly captured. Above all, it clearly conveys that the stage with the “Rock Carnival”, which can be said to be the symbol of the first visit to Japan, and the ZEP logo signboard is the scene of 923. The appearance of ZEP who came to Japan for the first time in 1971 is exactly there.
The video was shot at 8mm, and the reality is that it is impossible to completely record the performance of ZEP, which has a long song length, but even so, the video that captures the performance scene of each song while being fragmented is spectacular. .. In addition, the point is that it synchronizes the audience recording beautifully.

What surprised me when I saw this video was that the actions of the two front desks were very quiet. Everyone knows that since 1973, when they entered the stadium, they opened their eyes to stage actions, the plant was glamorous, and Page was escalated to the famous action that became his trademark. For that reason, it is fresh and moving that ZEP here simply listens to songs and performances without the need for extra decoration.
In the first place, Page in 1972 did not have the narcissism of later years, but rather the looks of all-you-can-grow beard and hair. Instead, it seems that they are concentrating on playing. The stage production of his solo “Dazed And Confused” bowing part is also simple and completely different from after 1973.

For this release, we have compiled the long version that appeared last week and the longest version that combines the video of only the “Hello Mary Lou” part of 2018. In addition, as a bonus, 8mm video taken by Bonzo during his stay in Japan, which has been seen on YouTube for some time, is also included. In this video, Bonzo captured only the members who went to Hiroshima by Shinkansen after the Budokan performance and looked around Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, and also the off-scenes of the city of Osaka and the way back home (hence he). (Not projected at all) Valuable video. By this editing, this item is a video collection of ZEP’s first visit to Japan that makes you want to call it a petite document even on the stage of the first day of Budokan and even when you leave Japan.

世界中のZEPマニアをアッと言わせた貴重映像をさっそくDVD-R化！初来日公演の初日「923」は非常に良好なオーディエンス録音が乱立することでも有名な日ですが、今からちょうど10年前にはオフィシャルYouTubeチャンネルでアリーナから敢行された8mmオーディエンスショットが登場してマニアを喜ばせました。ところが2018年になって二階席から撮影された新たな8mm映像が登場。それは大変に貴重な映像だったのですが、ひっそりと現れたことからマニアの注目を浴びたのは最近になってからのこと。そうした中、先週になってこの映像の20分にも及ぶロングバージョンが登場し世界中のマニアの間で話題沸騰となっています。
2018年版の抜粋映像でも垣間見られたのですが、この二階席から撮られた映像は意外なほど見やすい。もちろんメンバーの表情を伺い知ることができるレベルではないのですが、それでも武道館初日という歴史的な場面がしっかり捉えられている。何より初来日の象徴とも言うべき「ロックカーニバル」とZEPロゴの看板が飾られたステージが923の光景であることを如実に伝えてくれている。正に1971年初来日のZEPの姿がそこに。
8mmで撮影された映像ですし、曲の尺が長いZEPの演奏を完全収録することは不可能という現実がある訳ですが、それでも細切れながら各曲の演奏シーンを捉えてくれた映像は見応え十分。おまけにオーディエンス録音を綺麗にシンクロさせてくれている点もポイントが高い。

この映像を見ていて驚かされるのは、フロント二人のアクションが非常に大人しいということ。1973年からスタジアムに進出してからというもの、それぞれにステージアクションに開眼しプラントはグラマラス指向、ペイジは彼のトレードマークになるほど有名なアクションがエスカレートの一途をたどったのは誰もが知るところ。それだけにここでのZEPが余計な飾りを必要とすることなく、ひたすらシンプルに歌や演奏を聞かせてくれる様は新鮮かつ感動的ですらある。
そもそも71年のペイジは後年のようなナルシズムがまるで芽生えておらず、むしろ髭も髪も伸ばし放題というルックス。その代わりプレイに集中している様子がありありと感じられるのです。彼の独壇場となる「Dazed And Confused」ボウイング・パートのステージ演出がまたシンプルで73年以降とはまるで違う。
さらに「Moby Dick」終了時にドラムキットから立ち上がって一礼するボンゾの姿、あるいはすべての演奏が終わったところで（今のの日本でレアアイテムとなってしまった苦笑）トイレットペーパーが投げ入れられるなど、日本のロックコンサート創成期ならではの光景も実に微笑ましい。

今回のリリースに当たっては、先週登場したロングバージョンと2018年の「Hello Mary Lou」パートのみの映像を合体させた最長版へとまとめ上げました。さらにボーナスとして以前からYouTube上で見られた日本滞在時のボンゾ撮影の8mm映像も収録。この映像はちょうど武道館公演を終え新幹線で広島に向かい、広島平和記念公園を見て回るメンバーの姿、さらに大阪の街や帰路に就くところまでのオフの場面ばかりをボンゾが捉えた（よって彼は一切映し出されません）貴重映像。この編集によって、本アイテムは武道館初日のステージと離日までもプチ・ドキュメントと呼びたくなるようなZEP初来日の映像集となっています。
とにかく923の8mmオーディエンスショットは見応えたっぷり。ほんのわずかながらもアコースティック・セットの場面まで見られるという。よくぞ撮影してくれたものです。日本におけるZEP伝説の始まりとなった一日の様子を垣間見られる超貴重映像！
