日本のZEPの永遠である1971年の大阪二日目、またの名を929音源。当店でも一番ポピュラーなサウンドボード録音を元にOG盤LPバージョン、さらにはさまざまなアイテムの元になった「UNPROCESSED」バージョンとリリースし、その度に好評からのSold Outとなっていたのは記憶に新しいところです。やはり929は強し…。日本のファンはもちろん、世界中のマニアも名演として認められた爆裂演奏の929だけのことはあります。
こうした当店からのリリースを引き合いに出すまでもなく、サウンドボード録音に関しては現在に至るまで様々なアイテムが生み出され続けています。やはりサウンドボード録音という存在感もまた強し。そうなると当然ながら軽視されてしまうのが同日のオーディエンス録音でしょう。それでも929となれば、マニアにはオーディエンス録音も受け入れられています。サウンドボード録音で聴きなれたライブだからこそ、オーディエンス録音で当日の会場の臨場感も体感できないものか…こうした探求心を生み出してみせるのも929ならでは。

そんなマニアの探求心に応えてくれた画期的なリリースがH-BOMBの「929」でした。昔からのマニアであれば、リリース当初に「サウンドボードで聴きなれたライブの臨場感を」的なキャッチコピーと共に現れたことを覚えている人もいるかもしれません。ところがそんな画期的な音源とリリースもピッチの狂いがマイナス・ポイントとなり、さらに別音源を駆使した「NINE TWO NINE」、より近年には「SMOKE GETS IN YOUR EYES」といったオーディエンス録音でのコンプリート収録を目指したアイテムの登場によって見過ごされてしまいました。
しかしながら、929のオーディエンス録音でステレオ録音ならではのクリアネスや豊かな臨場感を味わえるのが「929」音源の大きな魅力なのです。しかも今回はよりロージェネレーションな音源の入手によって、その豊かな臨場感とクリアネスはさらに向上。この独特な音像は前日の音源やフロイドの71年大阪とも相通じる独特なテイストです。もし929にサウンドボードが存在してなかったとすれば、この音源がベストとなったことは間違いありません。ヒスノイズも散見されますが、むしろそれがナチュラルな風合いを感じさせますし、何よりも今回はピッチが正確ですので、先のクリアネスや臨場感がさらに楽しめることでしょう。

そしてこのリリースもまた、今回の武道館音源と同一人物が提供してくれたものなのですが、驚いたことにもう一つの埋もれていた929音源も提供してくれました！こちらは完全初登場のオーディエンス録音。音質自体は今回の音源や過去のアイテムに使われた別音源と比べても音質が落ちてしまいます。さらには「Immigrant Song」からカットが入る、この日の目玉である「Friends」は未収録といった欠点も散見されます。こういったマイナス・ポイントがこれまで埋もれていた原因かもしれません。
しかし幸いにも演奏が進むにつれてクリアネスは向上。日本のZEPファンがこよなく愛する929のオルタネイト・レコーディングとして十分に楽しめる音源となっています。独特なクリアネスが魅力のメイン音源、そしてマニア注目の知られざる929新オーディエンス録音、それぞれの魅力たっぷりな929のアナザー・サイドを限定のプレスCDにて心ゆくまでお楽しみください！
