[About sound quality and content] As I wrote at the beginning, the second day of this MSG has only been an extremely bad sound source so far, and it is also a day that has long been neglected by Zeppelin enthusiasts as a problem before the evaluation of the concert content. However, the source recorded in this work excavated at the end of 2021 is not only the source of the conventional one, but also one of the best high-quality audience sound sources compared to other performances in 1977, and the concert itself is also re-released by this work. It is a content that will be evaluated. We are fortunate to be able to hear such a sound source 40 years after the concert. The closeness of the sound and the clear and spacious sound quality are exactly the best of the 1977 sound sources, and the content is also perfect. The phase that was slightly to the left has also been corrected.

[Perfect pitch adjustment] Of course, 1977 was recorded on cassette tape. Since it is not a digital device as it is today, pitch adjustment is a very important point in tape media where physical changes over time are unavoidable. The original tape of this work is no exception, and as a result of more than 40 years, the pitch was in a rattling state when played normally. It’s not a matter of what percentage of the whole, but the pitch depends on the location of the tape, which is the fate of older tapes. This work carefully corrects it, and takes time to make perfect pitch adjustments that could not be done with many existing boards.

1977年北米ツアーは4月、5月と6月、そして7月と、間に2度の休養期間を挟み、三つのパートにわけて行なわれた長大なものであった。しかしサード・レグである7月のツアー中にプラントの息子が病で死去し、わずか4公演で中断、バンドは無期休養期間に入る。よって当初の予定より日程は削減され、全51公演が予定されていた内の44公演を消化した時点で全日程を終えることになる。しかしそのようなトラブルを他所に、久しぶりの全米ツアー、しかもツェッペリンにとってかつてない最大規模のツアーとあって、ファンには熱狂的に受け入れられた模様である。このツアーは硬質でハードなアルバム『プレゼンス』に伴うツアーであり、同アルバムの曲を初披露することもあって、ツアーに向けてのリハーサルは年初から2か月に渡って念入りに行なわれた。そして1977年4月1日ダラスから、いよいよツアーが開幕したのである。

【音質と内容について】
冒頭で書いたように、このMSG二日目はこれまで音の極端に悪い音源しかなく、コンサート内容の評価以前の問題として長らくツェッペリン・マニアから軽んじられていた日でもある。しかし2021年末に発掘された本作に収録のソースは従来のものと比べてはもちろん、1977年の他の公演に比べても屈指の高音質オーディエンス音源であり、本作によりコンサートそのものもまた再評価されるであろう内容となっている。このような音源がコンサートから40数年を経て我々が聴くことが出来るのは幸運な事である。音の近さ、クリアで広がりある音質はまさに1977年の音源の中でも最高のもので、内容的にも完璧。やや左に寄っていた位相も修正してある。

【完璧なピッチ調整】
1977年は当然カセットテープでの録音である。現代のようにデジタル機材ではないので、経年による物理的な変化が不可避なテープ媒体において、ピッチ調整は非常に重要なポイントとなっている。本作の元テープも例外ではなく、40年以上の経年の結果普通に再生した状態でピッチはガタガタの状態であった。全体で何％といった問題ではなく、テープの場所によってピッチが異なるものであり、これは古いテープにおける宿命である。本作はそれを丁寧に補正して、数多くある既発盤ではなしえなかった完璧なピッチ調整を時間をかけて施してある。
