The 1973 American Tour was when Led Zeppelin’s career reached the next level of the stadium band. Tampa Stadium on May 5th has been popular as the oldest record. A stadium rock show held in front of a large audience of nearly 60,000. Fortunately, there were two types of sound sources with surprisingly good sound quality while recording the audience in a vast venue on this day, and items mainly using “recorder 1” have been released since the LP era. rice field. This “recorder 1” has a sound image that is so close that it is hard to believe that a member of a large audience of nearly 60,000 people recorded it from the audience seats, yet the hard recording condition that is typical of an outdoor stadium also made me feel a unique charm.
In the CD era, “recorder 2” is now available. This was a sound source that was not as good as “recorder 1”, but still in the category of stadium audience recording, which was very easy to hear. Currently, the mainstream title is a mix of these two types of sound sources and a complete recording of the live performance. I think there are many enthusiasts who have some of those items. Both sound sources had some defects, and it was an ideal situation where those parts could be complemented by each other.

Tampa Stadium was a famous recording at the beginning of the 1973 American tour. Among them, the master of “recorder 1”, which was the best source, appeared on the net this month. Low-generation versions have been around for some time, and they have been the source of past items. As anyone who has heard of these items knows, it was in a state where it could be enjoyed with sufficiently high sound quality.
However, at the stage when some gene drop due to cassette copy occurred, the hard texture of this sound source became more or less conspicuous, and Tampa Stadium had the image of “high sound quality but squeaky”. It seems that there are many enthusiasts. In that respect, this master has been wiped out of this squeaky feeling, and there is no doubt that you will be surprised by the upper feeling that Tampa Stadium, which was originally served with high sound quality, has finally become easier to hear.
Therefore, the various cuts that were the drawbacks of this source are of course supplemented with “recorder 2”. This was also a common practice for Tampa Stadium items, but it is also true that there were many sweet items that were unexpectedly connected.
If you listen to this replenishment in “The Song Remains The Same”, one of the most famous cuts in “recorder 1”, you should realize that the items are connected more smoothly than in the past. .. Not only the roughness of the joints, but also the subtle pitch deviations remained in the connected sound sources. And this is also important, but as for “recorder 2”, the file recorded from the master was spread on the net earlier, so of course I adopted that. So what’s remarkable about this release is that both sources are based on the version recorded by the master!

This day is the beginning of the tour and the second stadium show following Atlanta the day before, so it seems that everyone is trying to perform politely, especially in the first half of the live. As the American tour progresses, Robert and Jimmy shift their style to stage action-oriented so as not to let the stadium crowd get bored, so the polite performance here is even more fresh.
In particular, “Since I’ve Been Loving You” is a masterpiece in which Jimmy not only has a large number of notes, but also plays a detailed play. However, I faced the reality of stadium live here. Skirmishes occur around the taper. In addition, Robert also alerted the audience, and in the first half of the live, both the performer and the viewer can see the state of groping for the stadium show, and at this point even the short song “No Quarter” has the surrounding guests. I think it was a scene that seems to be an outdoor stadium that caught up with future issues such as making noise.
In this way, I only survived the first half carefully, and the band all at once burst into a free-spirited performance with “Dazed And Confused”. Especially from around 19 minutes, when Bonzo & Johnsy headed for a tricky development, Jimmy followed suit. His appearance here is reminiscent of Europe a few months ago. It’s the best performance of the day without any price, and as the tour progresses after this, the style changes from such skill to action-oriented (laughs), so the wonderful development of the performance of the day stands out even more.
And “Moby Dick” ends with a medley to “Hertbreaker” instead of the ending, which is an arrangement unique to the beginning of the tour, and “The Ocean”, which had been playing for a year in the United States, has also been released. As a result, from this day, as with the album version, the pattern starting with Bonzo’s dialogue and count was heard (probably the same in Atlanta the day before), and so on. A high-quality audience captured. Naturally, the jacket also features Jimmy’s photo decided on the top and bottom of white, which is unique to this day. Not to mention that this will be the definitive edition of Tampa Stadium, the upper feeling of the main source is just amazing!

★ A tremendous upgrade. Superb sound quality. You will be surprised at how good the sound is.
