さすがにモントルーのウルトラ・レコーディングの域までには及びませんが、アフター・モントルーで残されたオーディエンス録音の中にも、これほど聴きやすい音源が埋もれていたとは驚き。これは本当に「埋もれていた」という表現がぴったりと当てはまるもので、過去のリリース・タイトルの一つは、今回のRAHラジオ音源同じくIMMIGRNTが「HAMBURG 1970」でした。もしかしたら、今回のリリースはIMMIGRNTトリビュートなのでしょうか？笑

元々アイテムのリリース数が少なく、ここに挙げたIMMIGRNT盤を含めたいくつかのタイトルはジェネレーション落ちのカセットをマスターにして音質とピッチの両方に難がある、あるいはイコライズ感が前面に出た仕上がりのアイテムしか存在しなかったという点において、不遇の扱いを受けてきたものです。しかも音源ジェネレーションのインフォがはっきりした音源が出回るようになった現在では一切アイテムがリリースされなかったというのだからなおさらです。

70年のZEPライブは春のフェニックスを除くと、プラントが毎公演で当たり前のようにスクリームしてみせていたものですが、それにしてもここでもプラントがまた凄まじい。彼の歌声を聴いているだけであっという間に二枚のディスクを聴き通してしまいそうなほど圧巻のスクリームが全開。これはRAHでも言えたことですが、フットワークの軽い、それでいて69年の性急な勢いから脱皮した余裕を感じさせる演奏がまた最高。収録というプレッシャーが少なからずあったであろう、今回同時リリースのRAHと比べても、その伸びやかな演奏は際立っています。
この時期のライブ音源にありがちなカットが数か所で見られる点は汚点かもしれませんが、それを補ってあまりある、ZEPの伸びやかなパフォーマンスと驚きのクリアネス。過去のアイテムに何かしら問題があったせいもあって、ほとんどの方が今回のリリースでこの日の演奏と音質の素晴らしさを知ることになるのではないでしょうか？特にアフター・モントルーで充実した音源を持っていたい人には自信を持っておすすめする限定のプレスCDです。いやー、70年のZEPは本当に素晴らしいですね！
