“VISUAL METALOGY” is a video collection of professional shots born from the glorious history of steel. I have upgraded many times so far, but this work is the final answer version. 23 kinds of images are expanded to 54 songs, a large volume of 4 hours, and 33 years of history of the steel god from the first performance in 1978 to the “EPITAPH tour” with Richie Faulkner It is one that covers many beautiful professional shots. Now, let me introduce you to the contents of a powerful and unrivaled steel image.
“When was heavy metal born?” Is a proposition that is often talked about. However, this was not all born overnight. “Exiter” runs through the heavens, the studs shine on the stage, and “British Steel” reaches the “God Declaration” … You can enjoy the transition with the finest professional video. [1983 ROCK POP FESTIVAL (7 live songs)] One of the highlights of this work. It is a familiar image from the “Defenders of the Immorality” era, but this quality is not familiar. It is a digital master that was released for the first time in this work, and it is an upgraded version that was shocked by its fierce beauty and the intensity of stereo sound. This festival was a super-luxury lineup rarely seen in history, such as Ozzy Osbourne, DEF LEPPARD, MSG, SCORPIONS, but only IRON MAIDEN succeeded in formulating it. This work is the highest peak master who will be the JUDAS PRIEST version.
In particular, “Freewheel Burning”, which was shown along with the leading single, is the ultimate. Along with Ozzy’s “Bark At The Moon” that was shown at the same festival, it is a historic performance that struck “This is a new era of heavy metal!”. [1984/1985 (8 live songs + 1 mime song)] Along with “ROCK POP FESTIVAL”, the famous “THE TUBE” appearance video has also been increased from 3 songs to 5 songs. Mime’s “Freewheel Burning” and “LIVE AID” are also new videos. In particular, “LIVE AID” is a combination of different broadcasts and is assembled into the longest and best version. You can fully enjoy the golden age “Rules of Immorality” during the golden age. [1990/1991 (5 live songs)] Even in the popular “Pain Killer” era, a total of 5 songs are recorded with 2 types of professional shots. The Irvine performance is a professional shot familiar from the history video “METAL WORKS ’73? ’93”, and is now familiar with the full version of the press DVD “IRVINE 1991”. Even more valuable is “Hell Bent For Leather” from “CONCRETE FOUNDATIONS FORUM”. It is a new excavation video that was recorded for the first time in this work, and it is also the first stage of Scott Travis. [1997/1998 (1 promo song + 4 live songs)] The 22 tracks after this are all new videos. First of all, PV and live from “Jugulator”. When it comes to the Ripper Owens era, the official DVD “LIVE IN LONDON” comes to mind, but that was one of the incomplete combustions with an unreasonable schedule. He was really cool during the “Jugulator” era. The dignity and fearlessness of the “whole body leather” seen in this video !! Although it is often thought of as black history now, please check with your own eyes the brilliance of the ripper, which was the “young guardian deity” itself. [2004-2008 (interview + 8 live songs + 2 promo songs)] And from Rob’s return to the golden age again. You can clearly see the gods regaining momentum in seven types of images. It is a performance that is only allowed by the Steel God. [2011 (1 medley song + 7 live songs)] Three types of the latest footage of the latest formation that K.K. Downing has left and Richie Faulkner has joined. In addition to the 7 songs from the “EPITAPH Tour”, the biggest highlight is the “Living After Midnight / Breaking The Law” medley when he appeared on the talent discovery program “AMERICAN IDOL”. It was a special performance to decorate the finale of Season 10 with a duet with James Durbin who sang a metal song on the program and became a hot topic. Although not shown in this video, Rob and Glenn Tipton, who appeared on the show, said, “We are grateful to James and the show because we have delivered metal to American tea many times (Rob).” James has pushed metal to the forefront of entertainment, which is great (Glen), “he said. In “US FESTIVAL’83”, it is a word that can be said only because they visually conveyed “this is metal” during the living room in the United States.
So far, we have introduced 54 songs for 33 years in a hurry. 『VISUAL METALOGY』とは、栄光の鋼鉄史の端々から生まれたプロショットを集成した映像集。これまで幾度となくアップグレードを繰り返してきましたが、本作はその最終回答版。23種類の映像が54曲分、実に４時間に及ぶ大ボリュームまで拡大され、古くは1978年の初来日公演からリッチー・フォークナーを迎えた“EPITAPHツアー”まで、33年間の鋼鉄神の歴史を数々の美麗プロショットで網羅した１本なのです。それでは、強力無比な鋼鉄映像の中身をご紹介いたしましょう。
【1978年の初来日（ライヴ５曲＋テレビ出演２曲）】
「キエフの大門」に導かれ、「JUDAS PRIEST」の文字が浮かんで始まる本作。歴史映像の重みに相応しいオープニングです。最初に登場するのは、お馴染みの初来日公演のテレビ映像。中盤以降に登場する映像に比べて滲みのある画質ですが、現在観られる最高バージョンで音質も過去最高。女性ファンの黄色い歓声や日本語テロップが時代を感じさせます。貴公子然とした衣装や幻想的な演出など、まだ「神」と呼ばれる以前の神々の姿が眩しい！ いきなり貴重極まる傑作映像ですが、本作の凄味はまだまだこれからです……。
【1978年?1979年（クリップ＆マイム３曲＋ライヴ１曲）】
次いで登場するは『殺人機械』時代。「Rock Forever」「The Green Manalishi」は新規の追加映像です。ロブ・ハルフォードの衣装がガラッと変わり、レザー＆スタッドのタフなイメージに様変わり。ヘヴィメタルをヴィジュアルでも改革してきたJUDAS PRIESTだけに、やはり映像こそが彼らの真価を伝えてくれます。
「ヘヴィメタルはいつ誕生したのか？」は、よく語られる命題です。しかし、こればかりは一朝一夕に産まれたわけではありません。「Exiter」が天を駆け、ステージで鋲が輝き、『ブリティッシュ・スティール』で“神宣言”を迎える……その変遷を極上プロ映像で楽しめます。
【1983年ROCK POP FESTIVAL（ライヴ７曲）】
本作の目玉のひとつ。『背徳の掟』時代のお馴染み映像ですが、このクオリティはお馴染みではない。本作で初公開となったデジタル・マスターで、その激烈な美しさ、ステレオ音声の強烈さが衝撃となったアップグレード版です。このフェスはオジー・オズボーン、DEF LEPPARD、MSG、SCORPIONSなど、歴史上希に見る超豪華ラインナップでしたが、IRON MAIDENだけが公式化に成功。本作は、そのJUDAS PRIEST版となる最高峰マスターなのです。
特に、先行シングルに併せて披露された「Freewheel Burning」は究極。同じフェスで披露されたオジーの「Bark At The Moon」と並び、「コレぞ新時代のHeavy Metal！」を叩きつけた歴史的なパフォーマンスです。
【1984年/1985年（ライヴ８曲＋マイム１曲）】
“ROCK POP FESTIVAL”と並んで有名な“THE TUBE”出演映像も３曲→５曲に増量。マイムの「Freewheel Burning」、“LIVE AID”の３曲も新規映像です。特に“LIVE AID”は、異なる放送を組み合わせ、最長・最良バージョンに組み上げられている。黄金期中の黄金期『背徳の掟』時代をたっぷりと楽しめます。
【1990年/1991年（ライヴ５曲）】
大人気『ペインキラー』時代もプロショット２種類で計５曲を収録しています。アーバイン公演はヒストリービデオ『METAL WORKS ’73?’93』でお馴染みのプロショットで、現在ではプレスDVD『IRVINE 1991』のフル版でもお馴染み。それ以上に貴重なのは“CONCRETE FOUNDATIONS FORUM”の「Hell Bent For Leather」。本作で初収録となった新発掘映像で、スコット・トラヴィスの初ステージでもあります。
【1997年/1998年（プロモ１曲＋ライヴ４曲）】
これ以降の22トラックは、すべて新規映像。まずは『ジャギュレイター』からのPVとライヴ。リッパー・オーウェンズ時代というと公式DVD『LIVE IN LONDON』が浮かびますが、あれは無茶なスケジュールが祟った不完全燃焼の１本でした。彼が本当にカッコ良かったのは『ジャギュレイター』時代。この映像で観られる“全身レザー”の凛々しさ、精悍さ!! 今では黒歴史と思われがちですが、“若き守護神”そのものだったリッパーの輝きを、もう一度ご自身の眼でご確認ください。
【2004年-2008年（インタビュー＋ライヴ８曲＋プロモ２曲）】
そしてロブ復帰から再び黄金期へ。７種類の映像で勢いを取り戻していく神々の姿が克明に確認できます。さまざまな公式映像が発表されてきた時代ですが、ここでしか観れないのはアコースティック・ライヴの３曲。しっとりとした「Diamonds & Rust」の美しさ、新曲「Worth Fighting For」での芳醇な表現力といったら……涙で画面が霞みます。鋼鉄神の意外な一面が心に染み渡る、珠玉のお宝映像です。
また、2006年“VH1 ROCK HONORS”の登場シーンも必見。いきなりフロント４人が互いの楽器を弾きあうお馴染みポーズでの登場は、ジョークすれすれの格好良さ。まさに鋼鉄神だけに許されたパフォーマンスです。
【2011年（メドレー競演１曲＋ライヴ７曲）】
K.K.ダウニングが離脱し、リッチー・フォークナーが加入した最新編成の映像を３種類。“EPITAPHツアー”の模様７曲に加え、最大の見所はタレント発掘番組“AMERICAN IDOL”に出演した際の「Living After Midnight/Breaking The Law」メドレーです。同番組でメタル・ソングを歌って話題となったジェームズ・ダービンとのデュエットでシーズン10のフィナーレを飾る特別パフォーマンスでした。この映像にはありませんが、同番組に出演したロブとグレン・ティプトンは「我々はジェームズと番組に感謝しているよ。メタルを何度もアメリカのお茶の間に届けたんだからね（ロブ）」「ジェームズはメタルをエンターテイメントの最前線に押し出した。これは素晴らしいことだ（グレン）」とコメントを残しています。“US FESTIVAL’83”で、全米のお茶の間に「これがメタル」をヴィジュアルで伝えた彼らだからこそ言える言葉でしょう。
以上、駆け足で33年分の54曲をご紹介しました。さまざまな聖典で「ヘヴィメタルの定義」を書き換え続けた我らがJUDAS PRIESTですが、もはやアルバムを何枚か挙げたところで、ヘヴィメタルを語り尽くすことはできません。しかし、貴重な70年代の記録から21世紀の超美麗デジタル映像まで、可能な限りの最高画質・最良音質バージョンで綴った本作は、時代の変遷と共に変わりゆく「メタルの歴史」そのもの。「ヘヴィメタルとは何か？」の禅問答に対するベストアンサー、それこそが本作の本質です。栄華を極めた１ジャンルの真髄を眼と耳で噛みしめられる１本、ぜひこの機会にたっぷりとお楽しみください。
