その高音質ぶりたるや、サウンドボードもかくやというウルトラクリア・サウンド。録音者本人が「俺が録った」と告白しているのでオーディエンス録音で間違いないのですが……各楽器の分離どころか、音のつぶ立ちまでハッキリと分かる直近サウンドに、遠くで小さく叫び続ける大歓声。まったくもってラインの直録りに歓声を被せた放送音源かのよう。もし、録音者が黙っていたら“どこの放送だ?”と、マニアたちが血眼になってリサーチしたことでしょう。
どうやらスピーカーの真正面にて、PAにへばりつくような状態で録音したらしいのですが、クリアなばかりで音割れの類もまったくありません。オリジナル・テープにはラストのHell Bent For Leatherが欠けているので、本盤では同ツアーのサウンドボード(公式ビデオにも使われたメンフィス放送)をボーナス収録してフルコンサートを再現していますが、公式級ラインと繋げても違和感のないオーディエンス録音なのです!
そんなミラクル・オーディエンスで綴られるライヴ本編の熱さがまた格別! 大名盤「SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE」のバンドコンディション、サウンドニュアンス、テンションそのままに名曲群が次々と繰り出されていきます。お馴染みのThe Hellionオープニングにしても普段ならスタジオ録音のThe Hellionと生演奏のElectric Eyeに若干の“差”を感じるところですが、このライヴは「SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE」テイストにあまりに忠実で、その違和感すらない。あの名盤がいつの間にか生演奏に変わっていた、そんな感じ。まさに“「SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE」のコンサート版”なのです!
アルバム通りにElectric Eye/ Riding On The Windと続いた後は旧曲タイム。しかし、そこは勢い盛るPRIESTらしく「BRITISH STEEL」や「POINT OF ENTRY」といった近作ナンバーを次々と繰り出し、70年代クラシックは「Sinner」「The Ripper」やカバー曲など控えめ。これがサウンドカラーともマッチしており、麗しき英国HR然としていた「IN THE EAST」の頃とはひと皮もふた皮も?けたバンドの姿が刻まれていきます。
