JUDAS PRIEST version has appeared from the topical recorder collection that is evoking HR / HM collectors. It is the birth of a new excavation live album where you can experience the “PAINKILLER” era, which embodied the far north of heavy metal at the end of the golden age!
It was the “March 4, 1991 Stuttgart performance” that was imbued with this work. It is a beautiful audience recording that vacuum-packed the whole story. Speaking of the “PAINKILLER” era, the best masterpiece professional shot “IRVINE 1991” is now the standard for everything. This is the 1990/1991 steel god. The so-called “PAINKILLER Tour” will end with a performance in Japan, but after that, “OPERATION ROCK & ROLL Tour” with Alice Cooper and MOTORHEAD will be held. “IRVINE 1991” was the “OPERATION ROCK & ROLL Tour”, but the Stuttgart performance of this work is the main part of the solo tour. It was the 23rd performance of “Europe” leg.
This work recorded on such a stage is a collection of the now-talked-about recorder “Stephane”. It has always been known to the core collectors, but the collection has never been openly distributed. However, such a treasured master has been continuously excavated only recently. BLACK SABBATH’s new masterpiece “DEFINITIVE PARIS 1992 (Zodiac 467)” will be permanently preserved this week, but the awesome sound of going “as if it were a sound board” on the ground is shocking.
Such a master also recorded JUDAS PRIEST in the golden age. In the case of this work, there is a little distance, so it is not like a “sound board”, but the spacious and overlooked sense of space and the strength of the core that penetrates the hall sound are exquisite. And the freshness transferred directly from Omoto DAT is wonderful, and it is a beautiful recording like the Kinney sound in Japanese recording.
The beautiful sound depicts the full show of the ultimate heavy metal paradise “PAINKILLER Tour”. As mentioned above, the standard for 1991 is “IRVINE 1991”, so let’s organize the set while comparing.

And Rob of the heyday who sang many “PAINKILLER” numbers and famous songs “The Sentinel” and “Riding On The Wind” with the original key. Even now, the majesty of the steel god is still enormous, but the tension and edge of this voice must be in the greasy thirties.
After all, the “PAINKILLER” era was amazing. It wasn’t directly linked to sales due to changes in the scene, but it can be said that its concentration, brilliance, and fulfillment were the best in my career. これが1990年／1991年の鋼鉄神。いわゆる“PAINKILLER Tour”は日本公演を持って終了しますが、その後にアリス・クーパーやMOTORHEADらと組んだ“OPERATION ROCK & ROLL Tour”も実施。『IRVINE 1991』は、その“OPERATION ROCK & ROLL Tour”でしたが、本作のシュトゥットガルト公演は単独ツアー本編の方。「欧州」レッグ23公演目にあたるコンサートでした。
そんなステージで記録された本作は、今話題の録音家「Stephane」氏のコレクション。以前からコアなコレクター間では知る人ぞ知る存在だったのですが、そのコレクションは表立って流通することがありませんでした。しかし、そんな秘蔵マスターがごく最近になって連続発掘。今週BLACK SABBATHの新名盤『DEFINITIVE PARIS 1992（Zodiac 467）』が永久保存されますが、「まるでサウンドボード」を地で行く凄まじいサウンドに衝撃が走っているのです。
そんな達人が黄金時代のJUDAS PRIESTも記録していた。本作の場合はやや距離もあるので「まるでサウンドボード」とはいかないのですが、広々と見渡しの良い空間感覚とホール鳴りを貫いて来る芯の力強さは絶品。そして大元DATからダイレクトにトランスファーされた瑞々しさが素晴らしく、日本録音で言うところのキニー・サウンドのような端麗な録音なのです。

やはり、やはり『PAINKILLER』時代は凄かった。シーンの変化もあってセールスに直結はしませんでしたが、その濃度と輝き、そして充実感はキャリア随一だったと言っても良いでしょう。本作は、その現場を絶品サウンドでフル体験できる新発掘ライヴアルバムです。今後「Stephane」氏のコレクションからどんな傑作が飛び出すのか……そんなワクワクまで掻き立ててくれる銘品。どうぞ、じっくりとお楽しみください。
