This is the big picture of “METAL CONQUEROR TOUR”. Warm up “Britain” and “Europe” was a style based on “WORLD VENGEANCE TOUR” with new songs, but changed the set there greatly. Moreover, its magnificent playing is an iron wall. I was confident that I did a world break with these songs, not a new song, and I did not get tired of the first part of the tour. It is a steel performance that has just been refined and has no rust of pieces.
Meanwhile, “METAL CONQUEROR TOUR” is responsible for the new songs “Some Heads Are Gonna Roll”, “Freewheel Burning” and the heavy metal song “Grinder” that began to be played. It is not an adventure that leaping into new songs only in the sequel album of the successful line which has been successful. Fresh playing is also dazzling, especially “Some Heads Are Gonna Roll” is a performance that will be premiered worldwide this day.

【オーディエンス録音だけの激レア・セットリスト】
何が違うかと言えば、セットリスト。上記の名盤達は“METAL CONQUEROR TOUR”の中盤-後半にあたる。「Love Bites」で始まり、『DEFENDERS OF THE FAITH』のほとんどを演奏するライヴでした。しかし、ツアー序盤はそこまで大胆ではなく、“WORLD VENGEANCE TOUR”のカラーを色濃く残してもいたのです。本作は、そんな“違う時期”の頂点マスター。「1984年１月30日クレルモン＝フェラン公演（フランス）」の超極上のオーディエンス録音です。まずは、“違う時期”をワールドツアー概要で整理してみましょう。

これが“METAL CONQUEROR TOUR”の全体像。ウォームアップだった「英国」と「欧州」は“WORLD VENGEANCE TOUR”をベースに新曲を交えたスタイルでしたが、そこでセットを大幅に変更。その後の「北米#1-2」「日本」は新曲の大盤振る舞いになったわけです。また「英国」ツアーで演奏していた新曲は「Freewheel Burning」だけでしたが、「欧州」の最中に少しずつ増加。本作のクレルモン＝フェラン公演は、そんな「欧州」レッグの８公演目にあたるコンサートでした。

【頂点に輝く超極上サウンド】
そして、本作こそがツアー序盤の最高作。1stジェネ・カセットから起こされたサウンドは驚異的で、異様なほどにオン。会場音響などほとんど感じられず、極太な芯が力強い。ただひたすら「まるでサウンドボード」を地で行く凄まじいハイクオリティ・サウンドが轟く。さすがに奇跡中の奇跡たる『FAST & FURIOUS』『METAL CONQUEROR IN OSAKA』には半歩及ばないかも知れませんが、本作もまたオーディエンスの常識外となる異常な次元の名録音。唯一の欠点であった「Freewheel Burning」中盤のカットも別の極上マスターで補完して完全収録。万全に万全を尽くした史上最高峰盤なのです。
そのサウンドで描かれるのは、まさに“VENGEANCE＋DEFENDERS”となる重金属パラダイス。北米や日本の『DEFENDERS OF THE FAITH』ラッシュも素晴らしいのですが、そのために外されてしまった「Riding On The Wind」「Bloodstone」「The Ripper」もセットイン。何よりも流れそのものが“WORLD VENGEANCE TOUR”を引き継いでいるため、究極のオープニング「The Hellion→Electric Eye→Riding On The Wind」の３連弾が炸裂するのです。しかも、その堂々たる演奏ぶりは鉄壁。新曲披露ではなく、これらの曲で世界的ブレイクを果たした自信が漲り、ツアー序盤だけに疲れもなし。精錬されたばかりで欠片の錆もない鋼鉄パフォーマンスなのです。
一方で“METAL CONQUEROR TOUR”カラーを担うのは、演奏され始めた新曲「Some Heads Are Gonna Roll」「Freewheel Burning」と重メタル曲「Grinder」。成功を受けた同路線の続編アルバムだけに、新曲に込められるのも冒険ではなく飛躍。フレッシュな演奏ぶりも眩しいわけですが、特に「Some Heads Are Gonna Roll」はこの日が全世界初演となるパフォーマンスなのです。

【オーディエンスでしか聴けない黄金時代シリーズ】
まさに２大名盤『SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE』『DEFENDERS OF THE FAITH』の融合。挑戦者だった“VENGEANCE”の骨子に、“DEFENDERS”の新曲と王者としての貫禄をまぶした、ツアー序盤だけの世界。その史上最高峰ライヴアルバムなのです。
最後に、少しだけ余談を。先日、リリースされ大好評真っ最中の『THE TREASURE TAPES 1982-1988（Shades 867）』。もうお試し頂けましたでしょうか。80年代の激レア曲を総括した１本でしたが、そこに収録されていたのは「1982年・1986年・1988年」の３本。黄金のブレイク時代で唯一抜けていたのが「1984年」でした。実は、本作はそのスキマを埋める１本でもあるのです。あの６枚組のコンセプトは「オーディエンスでしか聴けない曲」だったために本作は含まれませんでしたが、その代わり本作には「オーディエンスでしか聴けないセットリスト」がある。そして、サウンド・クオリティはあの大傑作６枚組のどの録音よりも凄いのです。
最重要セット『THE TREASURE TAPES 1982-1988』の隙間を埋め、“オーディエンスでしか味わえない激レアショウ”コレクションを完成させる１本です。単にひとつの超極上ライヴアルバムとしてだけでなく、ぜひ併せて80年代を、グレンもK.K.もデイヴ・ホランドも揃った黄金時代を、頂点サウンドで駆け抜けてください。
