Live at Budokan, Tokyo, Japan 6th February 2017
Journey ‘s visit to Japan that seemed like a “dream” even if I look back now. We have changed the first week of February 2017 in Japan with a performance that has not declined and a super-famous tune. About half a month since then. A live album that seems to chew that vivid “dream” has continued to appear, but finally a large decision board finally came out (almost). This work is a live album that will be the top of “February 6, 2017: Nippon Budokan” performance. Even for press CD alone this week, it is release rush of 3 titles, so let’s keep it organized here.

Over all, 5 shows in 7 days. We shook the archipelago on the schedule of the weekend 2 days, but the concerts other than the Nagoya performance confirm the vertex recording. It is now possible to deliver in the permanent collection of press CDs. Among them, ‘Nippon Budokan: First day’ contained in this work is an audience album corresponding to 4 performances.
That quality is exquisite. Because the regional performance album “SENDAI 2017 (ZION – 105)” of the transcendental sound is also released at the same time, it can not be totally called “Tour No. 1”, but it must be “the best of the day”. Last week I also reported it as part of the 4 CDR “LIVE BUDOKAN 2017 (Uxbridge 641)”, and the best sound of the press classes was very popular, but the fact that I actually won the press is Person. Melody-oriented bands like JOURNEY tend to listen to the growth of middle and high tone, but the bass gives scales and dynamism to songs. 今振り返っても“夢”のようだったJOURNEYの来日公演。未だ衰えぬパフォーマンスと超・名曲の津波で、日本の2017年２月第一週を染め変えていきました。あれから約半月。その鮮やかな“夢”を噛みしめるようなライヴアルバムが登場し続けてきましたが、遂に大決定盤が（ほぼ）出揃いました。本作は、その中から「2017年２月６日：日本武道館」公演の頂点となるライヴアルバムです。今週はプレスCDだけでも３タイトルのリリース・ラッシュですので、ここで整理しておきましょう。

以上、７日間で全５公演。週休２日のスケジュールで列島を揺るがしていったわけですが、名古屋公演以外のコンサートは頂点録音が確定。プレスCDの永久保存コレクションでお届けできることになりました。その中で、本作に収められた「日本武道館：初日」は４公演目にあたるオーディエンス・アルバムです。
そのクオリティは、まさに絶品。超絶サウンドの地方公演アルバム『SENDAI 2017（ZION-105）』も同時リリースされるため、軽々に「ツアーNo.1」とは言えないのですが、「この日のベスト」には違いない。先週も４枚組CDR『LIVE BUDOKAN 2017（Uxbridge 641）』の一部としてもレポートし、そのプレス級の極上サウンドが大変ご好評を賜りましたが、実際にプレスを勝ち取ったのは本作の方。そのクオリティは輪をかけて素晴らしく、特に骨太な低音の“鳴り”はなんとも艶やかでリッチなのです。JOURNEYのようなメロディ重視のバンドは中高音の伸びに耳が行ってしまいがちですが、低音こそが楽曲にスケール感とダイナミズムを与える。その低音が“振動”レベルで感じられるからこそ、中高音の輝きが一層眩しくなるのです。もちろん、これは『LIVE BUDOKAN 2017』と比較しての話でして、別に低音が突き出たサウンドというわけではありません。中高音は美しくて当たり前、透き通る透明感は大前提。要するに、全部の音域がキレイで困っちゃう級のサウンドなのです。
そのサウンドで描かれるJOURNEYがまた素晴らしい。今回の東京公演は、本作ではなく「２月７日（２日目）」の『ESCAPE』『FRONTIERS』完全再現に話題をかっさらわれた感もありますが、だからと言って“超豪華グレイテスト・ヒッツ”が悪かろうハズがない。こちらも『ESCAPE』『FRONTIERS』の２大名盤が軸となっているわけですが、さらに名盤『INFINITY』の３曲「Lights」「La Do Da」「Wheel in the Skyや、「Any Way You Want It」「Only The Young」「Be Good To Yourself」といった、再現ナイトでは聴けなかった黄金期の超名曲ラッシュ。アルバム構成から解放された自然な流れも相まって、美旋律が絶え間なく最大限に輝き続ける１時間52分間なのです。
恐らく、多くの方が世界初となる『ESCAPE』『FRONTIERS』完全再現コンサートに注目されると思いますが、本作はその前日にして一層豪華な“グレイテスト・ヒッツ”。バンドは歴史的な挑戦を前にして緊張感とやる気に溢れたコンディションながら、“いつも通り”だからこその練り上げられたパフォーマンスが眩しい。後年には名盤再現だけが語り継がれてしまうかもしれませんが、決してそれだけではなかった2017年のJOURNEY。歴史的一夜よりも完成度の高いコンサートの頂点記録。今週末、あなたのお手元にお届けいたします。
