Celebration! John Sykes restarted !! Announced that the new work “SY-OPS” for the first time in 17 years will be released in November 2017. Finally, we can see concrete movements toward the resurrection. The last time Sykes stood in front of us was the 2004 performance in Japan. The tour is also the official version of “BAD BOYS LIVE!”, But a 100% full live album of the original is now available.
This work contains “April 16, 2004 Namba Hatch performance”. First, let’s take a look at the outline of the last Japan tour 13 years ago.

Above, all 4 performances. Initially, it was announced under the name of BLUE MURDER, but it was the Japanese side’s discretion. Sykes himself and the members didn’t know that, and it ended up being a solo concert. The official board “BAD BOYS LIVE!” Has no detailed recording data and is credited as if it was assembled from all four performances. On the other hand, this work is an audience album recorded at the scene on the first day of the tour.
The umami of this work is two points: excellent sound quality and full recording. In fact, the sound of this work is super powerful. It must be an audience recording that sucked in the enthusiasm, but the music and singing voice are full of wonderful direct feeling, and the details are super detailed. It is clear enough to capture even the faint noise of “Gigi …” leaking from the on-site amplifier.
That should be it, this work was done by a legendary famous recorder known for his skill in Osaka from the 90’s to the early 2000’s. At our shop, we have made many CDs of this masterpiece collection, and have delivered many masterpieces and masterpieces of Osaka such as RAINBOW, AC / DC, SYKES, Yngwie Malmsteen, THE BLACK CROWES. Especially for Sykes fans, I would like to tell you about the super masterpiece “OSAKA 1998 (Zodiac 233)” of the press 2CD. To be honest, this work had to be released as a CDR for the tour that also has an official live version, but it is a work of the same recorder as that transcendental sound, and the quality is also thin “sequel”. It is a live album that made the name recording from the original DAT to CD.
And the show drawn with that hyper sound is essential. As mentioned earlier, the official board “BAD BOYS LIVE!” Was mixed from 4 performances, and if the songs were cut to fit on one CD, the song order would be significantly different. However, this work is a full live performance of one performance. The official version is a complete recording including the cut “Cautionary Warning”, “Billy”, “She Knows” and “Defcon 1”.
Its power is enormous. This year’s tour is not an album promotion, but “SYKES HISTORY” itself. The presence of the above four songs has further increased the feeling of “the culmination of Sykes”, but the seamless flow unique to live performances is also wonderful. The mood of the opening “We All Fall Down” is completely different from that of “BAD BOYS LIVE!”, And the flow of the fast “Cautionary Warning” to the deadly “Billy” is exquisite. After that, following the familiar “Bad Boys” and “Cold Sweat” on the official version, “Beauty Melody and Sharpness” is a big feature with various types of songs. Heavy numbers such as “Crying In The Rain” and “Still Of The Night” are the symbols of Sykes, but this “beauty melody and sharpness” is what he never lost throughout his career. Not only the white snake, but also those who continue to love as a solo artist will be dizzy only in this first half.

Of course, the large-scale behavior of the WHITESNAKE number that became a hot topic at that time is also the best, and the strongest ensemble with Marco Mendoza & Tommy Aldridge seconded from that WHITESNAKE, and even the expert Derek Sherinian is exquisite. Anyway, it is one of good songs, good sounds, and good performances.
Sykes will be resurrected from now on. If he visits Japan again, will he really listen to the singing voice and guitar so far … A masterpiece of a wonderful live album that attacks such quick anxiety. 祝！　ジョン・サイクス再始動!!　17年ぶりの新作『SY-OPS』を2017年11月にリリースすると公表。遂に復活に向け、具体的な動きが見えてきました。そんなサイクスが最後に私たちの前に立ったのは、2004年の来日公演。オフィシャル盤『BAD BOYS LIVE!』にもなっているツアーですが、その本生100％のフル・ライヴアルバムが登場です。
本作に収められているのは「2004年４月16日なんばHatch公演」。まずは、今から13年前となる最後のジャパンツアーの概要から見てみましょう。

以上、全４公演。当初、BLUE MURDER名義で告知されましたが、それは日本側の独断。サイクス自身やメンバーはそれを知らず、結局はソロでのコンサートとなりました。オフィシャル盤『BAD BOYS LIVE!』は詳しい録音データはなく、４公演すべてから組まれたようにクレジットされています。それに対し、本作はツアー初日の現場で録音されたオーディエンス・アルバムです。
そんな本作の旨みは、素晴らしいサウンド・クオリティとフル収録の２点。実際、本作のサウンドは超・強力。熱い熱狂も吸い込んだオーディエンス録音には違いないのですが、楽音も歌声も素晴らしいダイレクト感に溢れ、ディテールも超詳細。現場のアンプから漏れ出る「ジジ……」という微かなノイズまで綺麗に捉えきったクリアっぷりなのです。
それもそのはず、本作を手がけたのは、90年代から2000年代初期の大阪で辣腕で知られた伝説の名録音家。当店では、この名手コレクションを数多くCD化しており、RAINBOWやAC/DC、SYKES、イングヴェイ・マルムスティーン、THE BLACK CROWES等々の大阪の名作・傑作を数多くお届けしてきました。特にサイクス・ファンの方にお伝えしたいのは、プレス２CDの超傑作『OSAKA 1998（Zodiac 233）』。正直なところ、本作はオフィシャル・ライヴ盤も出ているツアーのためにCDRリリースにせざるを得ませんでしたが、あの超絶サウンドと同じ録音家の作品であり、クオリティも肉薄する“続編”。その名録音をオリジナルDATからCD化したライヴアルバムなのです。
そして、そのハイパー・サウンドで描かれるショウこそが要。先述の通り、オフィシャル盤『BAD BOYS LIVE!』は４公演から混ぜられており、CD１枚に収めるために曲もカットされていれば、曲順も大幅に違う編集作でした。しかし、本作は１公演の丸ごとフル・ライヴ。公式盤ではカットされた「Cautionary Warning」「Billy」「She Knows」「Defcon 1」も含めた完全収録なのです。
その威力は絶大。この年のツアーはアルバムのプロモーションではなく、“SYKES HISTORY”そのもの。上記の４曲があることで一層「サイクスの集大成」感が爆増しているわけですが、シームレスなライヴ独自の流れも素晴らしい。オープニングの「We All Fall Down」からして『BAD BOYS LIVE!』とはムードがまったく違いますし、さらにファストな「Cautionary Warning」の連発で押し、必殺の「Billy」へと続く流れは絶品。その後、公式盤でもお馴染みの「Bad Boys」「Cold Sweat」へと続き、さまざまなタイプの曲で“美メロとシャープさ”を大フィーチュア。サイクスの象徴と言えば「Crying In The Rain」「Still Of The Night」といったヘヴィ・ナンバーですが、この“美メロとシャープさ”こそ、彼がキャリアを通して決して失わなかったもの。白蛇だけでなく、ソロ・アーティストとして愛し続ける方には、この前半だけで目眩がすることでしょう。

もちろん、当時話題になったWHITESNAKEナンバーの大盤振る舞いも最高ですし、そのWHITESNAKEから出向してきたマルコ・メンドーザ＆トミー・アルドリッジ、さらには巧者デレク・シェリニアンまで揃えた最強のアンサンブルも絶品。とにかく、曲良し・音良し・演奏良しの１本です。
これから復活を遂げるサイクス。もし、彼が再び日本を訪れてくれたとして、果たしてここまでの歌声とギターを聴かせてくれるか……。そんな気の早い不安まで襲ってくるほどの素晴らしいライヴアルバムの大傑作。今、この瞬間に味わえる“サイクス・ミュージック”の最先端。彼の復活を待ちきれないあなたにお届けします！
