【死の当日インタビュー】
まず、冒頭に登場するのは死の当日に行われたインタビュー。日本で放送された番組で、国内のコアな録画マニアが記録していたもの。その画質は異常なレベルで公式DVDにそっくり使える次元です。
亡くなる当時の肉声で「（音楽の仕事は）死んで土に埋められるまで終わらないし、それはずっとずっと先のことであってほしい」と語り、「(Just Like) Starting Over」の効果音が鎮魂の鐘のように響く……。インタビューにも「(Just Like) Starting Over」の歌詞にも日本語字幕が付き、ジョンの想いがダイレクトに心に染み込むイントロダクションです。

【クリップ集：THE VIDEO COLLECTION】
続くのが本作のメインとなるオフィシャル映像『THE VIDEO COLLECTION』。ジョンのクリップ集と言うと、現行のオフィシャルDVD『LENNON LEGEND』もありますが、本作はそれ以前にリリースされていたもの。冒頭のインタビュー映像と同じコア・コレクターが秘蔵していた“日本盤レーザーディスク”から精緻にデジタル化したもので、まさに史上最高峰クオリティの逸品です。
もちろん、こうしてデジタル化したのは『LENNON LEGEND』とは内容が違うから。19曲分のクリップがクリップが収録されていますが、『LENNON LEGEND』と同じなのは「Woman」「Imagine (Live)」の２曲しかなく、「I’m Stepping Out」「Grow Old With Me」は本作でしか見られません。他の曲は被っていますが、それでも大なり小なり違いがある。分類してみますと……

……細かくチェックしないと違いに気づかないものから、丸っきりの別物まで差は様々なものの、ほとんどが別バージョンなのです。さらに各曲の冒頭にはジョンの手書き映像と肉声コメントも入っており、日本語字幕が付き。たとえ違いが分かりづらいクリップだとしても、より一層ジョンの存在を身近に感じられるのです。

【MIKE DOUGLAS SHOW】
最後はテレビ番組“MIKE DOUGLAS SHOW”に出演した模様。これは1961年から1982年までの21年間続いた人気番組で、THE KINKS、JAMES BROWN、MARVIN GAYE、FRANK ZAPPA、THE BAY CITY ROLLERS等々など、幅広く多数のミュージシャン／バンドも出演しました。本作は、1972年２月にジョンとヨーコが一週間に渡って出演した回から演奏シーンを中心に収録。これまた日本放送バージョンで、同じコア・マニアのコレクションからデジタル化したオフィシャル級の映像美です。
ジョンがガニ股で歌う「It’s So Hard」からヨーコの日本語独唱による「さくらさくら」まで８曲が披露されますが、特に注目なのは、チェック・ベリーとの共演。２曲「Memphis Tennessee」「Johnny B.Goode」の共演そのものも必見ですが、ジョンとチェックはこの日が初対面だったらしく、興奮気味に「“チャック・ベリー”はロックンロールの別名。50年代、彼の音楽は全世代に愛された。メッセージは“ロックンロール万歳”」と紹介するジョンの表情も素晴らしい。トークはもちろん、歌詞にまで日本語字幕付いています。
