　オリジナルアルバムの裏ジャケットにはジョンの幼少期の写真がアップで使われており、プライマリーセラピーによって、自分の人生を幼少期から辿って心の棘を抜くというコンセプトがアルバムのそこかしこに投影されています。一曲目が「マザー」で始まり、歌詞にはファザーも登場、そして最後は「母の死」で終わるという、一種狂気的なジョンが、その自分の狂気に気付き、偽悪的な振る舞いや言動をする自分に苦しみを吐露しているかのようなアルバムとなっており、胸が痛くなるアルバムです。さらに本作のジャケットには幼少期のジョン、母ジュリア、そして今でいう毒親である父フレッド、盤面にはミミ伯母さんなどがあしらわれており、可愛く聡明なジョン君が、成長していかに私たちが知るジョンレノンとなったのかを考えさせられます。

本作は、そんな歴史的名盤のセッション音源を5枚のディスクに網羅した、これさえあれば決定盤というもので、アルバム収録曲のみならず、同時期のデモ音源やシングルのみの曲なども含め、初登場音源を含み、従来これほど体系的に集約されたタイトルは皆無でした。特に今回初登場の「人々に力を」のオルタネイトテイクはアセテートからの音源で、今まで完全未発表のものです。
